With the 26th pick in the first round, Angelo and Lovie Smith had two impressive options in Ohio State burner Santonio Holmes and Florida's gifted Chad Jackson. But just before their turn arrived, they were one-upped by the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are Super Bowl champions for a reason -- they identify their prize and grab it.
That prize was Holmes, leaving the Bears with Jackson and his 4.32 combine speed as a delicious alternative.
Oddly, Jerry and Lovie passed, letting the New England Patriots take him 10 picks later. Never mind that Bill Cowher and Bill Belichick wear Super Bowl rings and help operate state-of-the-art organizations. Our Man Jerry evidently knows something they do not. So he traded his first-round away for 2nd and a 3rd.In the process, the Bears lost a shot at tight end Marcedes Lewis of UCLA, another potential starter at a need position.

1. Houston-B. Passed on Bush, and should have picked up a DT. Good draft though
2. New Orleans-B-. Reached in rd 2 and 4. Did address O-Line needs, but no LB drafted. Good start for Sean Payton. WE GOT REGGIE!
3. Tennessee-A. Great draft. Young has a LOT of pressure on him. White was a steal, as was Orr. Would have been an A+ if they got an OL or 2.
4. NY Jets-A+. Addressed needs at every position needed.
5. Green Bay-A+. So many picks, and a great foundation for McCarthy.
6. San Francisco-A. I think they needed a RB. Obvious bias on their 3rd pick in rd 6. Alex Smith gets help, defense gets missing players back.
7. Oakland-B. Right to pass on Leinart. Would have been an A if they got a RB.
8. Buffalo-C. First 2 picks were reaches. Stole Youboty and Simpson. Bias here, but Kyle Williams will be better than McCargo.
9. Detroit-B-. Matua was a steal. Reached on Sims, but a good draft nonetheless.
10. Arizona-A. Denny Green had another great draft. No defensive skill player drafted is why it is not an A+
11. Denver-B-. Picked up Javon Walker, no excuse to draft 2 WR. Loved Dumerville and Cutler.
12. Baltimore-A. Good draft, but needed more D-Line help
13. Cleveland-A. Really liked the draft. Romeo Crennel is my preseason pick for NFL coach of the year.
14. Philadelphia-B. No reaches, but the NFL's 28th Rushing offense got no RB. Bad call.
15. Atlanta-D-. Worst draft of anybody. Williams and Norwood helped, but the other picks were lacking
16. Miami-B-. Would have been a C if not for the last 2 picks, both steals. Allen is a reach, and may not be healthy. If he is healthy, he is a good pick.
17. Minnesota-D-. One O-Line pick, no WR, and reached on Jackson, who could not cut it at Arkansas behind Matt Jones. Bad draft.
18. Dallas-A+. Loved Skylar Green, who will help return game. 2 awesome drafts in a row, but did not get a QB. But buiding up D from last year gave them my A+ grade.
19. San Diego-B. No WR drafted. But still a good draft.
20. Kansas City-B. Love Croyle, reached on Pollard.
21. New England-A. 2 TE's? That held them from getting an A+
22. Washington-D-. McIntosh was a good pick, added needed help positions, but none who can help NOW.
23. Tampa Bay-A+. Addressed every need on team.
24. Cincinnati-B. Could have picked up Brazell as a Rookie FA, but he is FAST. 2 LSU players drafted here. New LSU North?
25. Pittsburgh-A. Any wonder why they have won for so many years under Cowher?
26. Chicago-D. No TE. No OL help. Would have been an F if they did not shore up Defense.
27. Carolina-A. Really liked this draft. No reaches.
28. Jacksonville-C. Bland draft. Lewis is one helluva TE though. Interesting that a USC alum drafts his first 2 players from UCLA
29. St Louis(forgot them!)-B-. Did not draft a QB or an OT. Still a decent draft.
30. Indianapolis-B. No DT? That's why it is not an A. Look out for Joseph Addai. LSU fans are sad he is gone, SEC Defensive Coordinators are not.
31. Seattle-B-. Another good draft.
32. NY Giants-A-. Great draft. No reach on Kiwanuka, but a steal on Moss, who should liven up Punt and kickoff returns.

As if their D needed to be improved. I give them an F for not drafting a WR or TE and because they didn't sign Randal El. Their Offense desperately needs a playmaker. This draft is incomprehensible. Piss poor managemnt. Thank god I'm from SD and have the Chargers as my #1 team. Go Saints.

I thought that the Jets had a fantastic draft as well. I was so happy that they did not give into the fan pressure and draft the very overrated Matt Leinart. They also got a very good player in Brad Smith, whom I wouldn't be surprised, even though they drafted him to be a WR, that they end up giving him a look at QB behind the fragile Pennington and the awful Ramsey.

I think NY did a great job as well, congrats. That QB they took in rd 2 could be a sleeper pick too.
I was torn between him and Brodie Croyle for my QB prospects. I saw more of Broyle-twice in person-and went with him. Clemens is going to be one heck of a QB as well.

Thanks. We've got a long way to go to get back to respectability, but at least this new front office has proven (at least on draft day) that they're not incompetent like the last front office.

No Jets fans were booing this year at the draft, tdalton!! Well, there was the one moment with the live video conferencing with Kansas City's new head coach... Herm Edwards!! Gee I wonder where all the boos were coming from!lol.. So what are your impressions of new Jets coach Eric Mangini? Do you think he'll get the team over the hump and win in the playoffs? I'm curious to see what happens..
I'm not sure what to make of Mangini yet. Since he is coming from Bill Belichik's coaching staff, I'm willing to give him a chance. But, judging from the defense that he ran last year, I wasn't that impressed. The Patriots defense just wasn't as good as it should have been when you take into account what kind of talen they have on that side of the ball. I would have prefered Mike Sherman to come in as the head coach, but I'm willing to give Mangini a chance.
But, then again, it doesn't really matter who the coach is for the next few years, because we're going to be awful. Who knows, we might even get the first pick in next years' draft.

Hey, Redbarchetta, I've seen Rush 4 times, most recently in 2002. I have Rush in Rio but how's the new R30 DVD, that is if you have it?
I've seen them on every tour since '80 except '87 when they skipped Seattle to play Japan. I have the R30 DVD, and it is great! You have to check it out!!!

OK thanks. I'll have to pick it up. I held out because 'Rush in Rio' just came out recently so I figured unless they were gonna release archive concert footage, why bother? Besides, I really like the crowd enthusiasm from the Rio show...
Wow, I'm jealous! That's alot of shows! The '87 tour was my first btw, in San Diego. I saw them in SD again in '91 and '97(which was hugely dissapointing) and here in 2002, which was outstanding. The '97 show had very poor sound for some inexplicable reason...

As for the Ravens, so long Kyle Boller!! McNair now gives this team a much better chance at getting to the playoffs!

First we all know about Ben Roethlisberger's motorcycle accident.
Now more T.O. distractions with his new book, in which he continues to slam Donovan MacNabb and the Eagles.. Poor Philly is gonna have to endure another round of questions about their reactions to this book from the media, and I'm sure that this will leak over to the Dallas Cowboys side too.. I'm sure Bill Parcells won't be too thrilled with any T.O. book questions that he has to answer!!
As for my Denver Broncos, first disgruntled wide out Ashley Lelie is holding out of mini-camp, demanding a trade to some team where he can compete to be a number 1 receiver. Sorry Ashley, you aren't that good!! Number 3 is the best you can be in Denver, what with Rod Smith and Javon Walker!!
Now this morning I read in the paper that our punter, Todd Sauerbrun has been suspended for 4 games in the regular season for violating the league's substance abuse policy!! I guess Todd tested positive for ephedra.. Man I would have thought he would have learnt his leason after the whole BALCO steroids scandal, when he was a Carolina Panther!! Fortunately, we have a reliable kick-off guy, Paul Ernster who can take on Sauerbrun's role!!
Jeez, whats gonna happen next??

If Lelie wants to be a Number 1 receiver, he should force a trade to the Jets. He would not only be the Number 1 receiver, he'd also probably be the best player on the team.
Seriously, though, good luck with the Broncos this year. I think that they'll probably make a pretty good run in the playoffs, if not make it all the way to the Super Bowl. They sure showed me something when they beat New England in the playoffs last year. I know one thing for sure, we can all but officially announce that the Jets are on the clock for next year's draft.

Yes, completely free. You will just need a Yahoo ID. Hopefully it will open in just a few days...the website says registration will begin in "Late July". It'd be awesome to get a lot of CBn'ers (especially those who have contributed to this topic.) in on the game.So long as it's free, i'm up for it.

Would anyone be interested in joining a Yahoo! Fantasy Football Pro Pick'em group once the registration begins? We could make it exclusive to CBn'ers...just a thought.
Sounds fun!
Head over to daltonswendy.com to the sports section for my 'Road to XLI' where I have complete coverage of all 32 NFL teams, predictions and all that fun stuff.

P.S: This is completely free, but you will need a Yahoo! ID, but if you don't have one that process isn't too painful. The limit is 50...I'd be thrilled to come even close to that though. Any questions? Just send me a PM. Thanks!
