The Bengals picked up a run stopper in free agent Sam Adams, just the area they needed to improve on.

Now we need to pick up some offensive line help in the draft. OSU center Nick Mangold is one possiblity to replace aging and oft-injured center Rich Braham among others. I'm already getting excited about the new season.

He's a good player. I know the Cardinals have him pretty high on their draft list. Lets face it, they need to assemble an offensive line pronto. It's not something they can allow to slowly "develope."

I agree. The Cards need O-Line help, but Mangold is a huge reach at 10. If Vernon Davis is available, I feel the Cards should take him. He is not only a great reciever, but he is also an excellent run blocker and ashould open up the outside for Edge. There are still great O-Line prspects available in rounds 2 and 3. Most teams are looking for DB's and LB's, so the Cards should get some help there. Of course that won't help them if they do NOT upgrade waht has to be one of the worst defenses in the NFL. I think the Casrds need O-Line and overall Defense in this draft

Finally a little good news for you Qwerty and your Buffalo Bills.. Peerless Price has resigned with the team for 4 years. Hopefully he'll be able to regain his top quality receiver status that he had with Buffalo before he went to the Atlanta Falcons for a couple of years, where he kinda fell off the charts. He should make, J.P. Losman or Kelly Holcombe or Craig Nall's job ( which ever one of them gets to be starting QB) a little easier!

ESPN has a place where you can pick your team needs for the draft. I think it's pretty simple, as the best player available seems to be high on the list for most teams. Meanwhile, CBS Sportsline's writers have their mock drafts up. It's a laugh riot!!! :D

That is good news for Qwerty about Price returning-he never should have left. This does affirm my prediction that the Bills go for D in this draft.

Dove-I am having a hard time going through conflicting reports about Denver. I was wondering-what do you see their needs are. I figure, just go to the biggest Bronco fan I know to get the info. Am I wrong in thinking the Broncos need a TE and DL help? Or are they looking for a RB? Help! Please?

Hey hcmv,

Yeah, Denver is really an enigma to me as well. Its been strangely a quiet off season as far as free agent signings for the Broncos. They did sign yet another ex-Cleveland Brown, Kenard Lang as a DE but thats about it.. Well it worked out pretty well last season with the four ex Browns that we got for our defense!! so why not Lang?!! hee. After losing Trevor Pryce to Baltimore we need to get someone who is a good pass rusher. We also lost Mike Anderson to the Ravens, but we resigned Ron Dayne for a few years (he had his break-out game last Thanksgiving against Dallas), and I wouldn't put it past Mike Shanahan to draft another RB, ( AHHH thank god there will be NO wasted draft picks on Maurice Clarret this year!! lol) to back up Dayne and Tatum Bell. I also think we could do with another tight end and receiver. We lost Jeb Putzier to the Texans, and we do have a bright young TE, Wesley Duke, but it would be good to get another TE if possible. I also think another WR would be good. Broncos have Rod Smith (who, lets face it is no spring chicken anymore), Ashley Lelie (who must produce this year), and Darrius Watts (in Shanahan's dog house most of last season). The Eric Moulds thing didn't happen so finding another WR in the draft might be good. Apart from these positions, I think the team is pretty solid. This is probably why there hasn't been a lot of free agents that the Broncos were wanting. Just need to get past those pesky Steelers this year, as well as beat New England again, and hopefully this time beat Indianapolis!!! We also have the Bengals, Seahawks, Ravens, Browns, 49ers, Cardinals and Rams this year as our non-division opponents. Should be fun!!

I'm looking forward to seeing your Saints this year. I guess they have a Sunday Night (or Monday night??) game when they return to the Superdome. Hope Drew Brees and new coach, Sean Peyton make a big change for their fortunes.

Thanks Dove! I too am intrigued by the Saints prospects. Sep 25 is the big day-Saints vs Falcons Mon night in the Dome (Sadly I have a prior commitment that day so I can't go  ).

Interesting trade you guys made with San Fran-I think Denver got the better deal, IMO.

Will post my final mock draft with 2, possibly three rounds. I saw Kiper's top 10 this morning, and we are almost exactly the same in thought. I do foresee one more major trade b/t now and Fri, so that is why I am holding off. I also forgot my flash drive.

Ricky Williams suspended for one year.

Brett Favre to RETURN.

4 days until the draft. I will post my final mock draft either today or Fri, as mine has now severely changed.

Damn, you beat me to it, hcmv007!! lol

I think that it's great that Favre will play one more season. I certainly wouldn't want to see him retire after that miserable 2005 that the Packers had.. Plus it'll be another year for Aaron Rogers to learn from #4, giving him more time to get ready to take over the reigns in 2007.

As for Ricky Williams.. Why am I not surprised!! lol.. As a Saint fan, hcmv007, I can only imagine that you must feel like " Why the hell did we give up all of our draft picks in'99 to get this guy?" and you must be glad like the Baltimore Ravens (after TO refused to play for them), that all this craziness with Ricky fell on the Dolphins shoulders. Am I correct? lol :D

The Ricky Williams Trade executed by the Saints is typical of their great draft picks in the past. Alex Molden and Vaughn Dunbar. Both were busts. Both drafted by the Saints. Ricky had potential, we all knew that, but to give up all that? No, he wasn't worth it. However, I am a huge Nick Saban fan, and feel sorry for him and the Phins, but am confident they can get through this. Saban was excellent at LSU for getting the players to focus on what they can control, not on what they can't control, and just play football. On the bright side, yes Dove, I do agree!

I am somewhat bewildered by Favre returning. I think the game has passed him by, and Green bay right now just can't win. I admire him for wanting to make another go of it, and do hope he has a good year, but I just don't see that happening. His return I do no think changes their draft plans, or my draft plans for them either. They need O-Line, WR and Defensive help at LB and CB. I think they will wait and get a D-Lineman on the 2nd day of the draft.

Re: Saints-I would make a trade with the Jets, and I think they will. The Saints should get both Jets 1st rd picks, swap picks in Rd 2, get the Jets 3rd rtound pick, and the Jets 2nd rd pick in 07. Again, that's just what I would do. They will draft a QB, possibly Paul Pinnegar in Rd 4 (no 3rd rd pick), who I think will be available then.

From what I heard on Sportscenter last night, it seems the New York Jets are getting pretty interested in Matt Leinart... Could it be that they'll swap picks with the New Orleans Saints to get him?? The Jets currently have Chad Pennington (who is comming off that torn rotator cuff injury) and they signed Patrick Ramsey away from the Redskins.. Hmmm...could they use Leinart?? Really not sure how true this speculation is..

I wasn't surprised by Favre's return. He just seems like that kind of guy to me. I grew up hating him because he beat the 49ers every year (except '98!), but i've developed a lot of respect for him. I hope he'll go out in a blaze of glory and not repeat what happened last year.

An interesting rumor floating around right now, which looks like it very well could become fact.. (and may throw a monkey wrench into your Mock Draft, hcmv007, but I'm not sure).. Javon Walker, who flat out does not want to play again in Green Bay, is currently visiting other teams. The Denver Broncos are one of those teams, and I believe they are interested in working out a trade with Green Bay for Walker. From what I understand, we would have to possibly give up a second round pick this year and send Ashley Lelie (who we've all but given up on) to the Packers for Javon. So keep your eyes and ears open, as this could very well happen before Saturday's draft!!

My draft wish list:

#1: Antonio Cromartie, CB Florida st. 6'2 208 and runs a 4.44. A big, no make it, HUGE corner with speed who can help SD's special teams, which score excatly zero TDs in 2005. ( )

#1B: Santonio Holmes, WR Ohio st. See above regarding special teams.

#1C: Winston Justice, T USC. SD needs to protect imobile and unproven Philip Rivers. A comprise OT in rd 2 would satisfy my wish list.

#2: O line, WR or CB depending on who's available and what occured with the first pick.

Should be interesting. Curious to see who the Eagles will draft, hopefully not another mediocre defensive or offensive lineman.

This is great news for the Jets, who are now trying desperately to trade up to the #2 spot to take Reggie Bush. I had been really wanting to get D'Brickashaw Ferguson to the Jets, but that was when it was thought that Bush was going to Houston and that the Jets had zero chance of getting him. Now, with the chance to move up to #2, I would be simply ecstatic if we could land Reggie Bush, and it would go a long way to show that this new GM and head coach are far more competent at managing personell than the previous GM and coach were. C'mon Jets, get the trade done. :D :D :D :(

We just took a QB in RD 3!

Looks like Drew Brees will have another superstar RB to compliment him...I was worried for him that his career would decline...now, I expect huge things from the Saints now! :D

Congrats to The Dove for Jay Cutler. I think he's gonna be awesome. He reminds me of a former Denver superstar QB. [censored] I'm just glad Oakland passed on Matt Lienart. Idiots. :D

I'm thrilled that the Jets got D'Brickashaw Ferguson and didn't cave in to fan pressure to take the ridiculously overrated Matt Leinart. With Ferguson and the Ohio State center that we got with the #29 pick, our offense will start to improve next year and should be ready to go when we bring in a new set of QBs (Pennington and Ramsey are not the answer) and some more receivers for the 2007 season.

On Wed, I will post my Draft Grades.

Johnboy-I liked the Eagles pick. Bunkley is going to be good. I was disappointed that they did not take a tailback, as I think THAT is the main need for their offense. I think their O-Line picks will protect McNabb, but Philly needed a great RB and did not take one. Maybe free agency will help out there.

tdalton-I loved the Jets draft!

Dove-you guys got one helluva QB in Jay Cutler, plus you pick up Javon Walker, but drafted one to many WR's.

Qwerty-Hate to say it, but you guys REACHED on your 2 first rounders. Thyat DT could have been available in Rd 2 or 3. Whitner could have been available later on, maybe 5-6 picks down. But I liked their later round picks.

Tarl-Good draft, not a great one, but I liked the direction your Chargers went. I still need to review it all. Look out for the Raiders, Art Shell knows what he is doing.

oh yeah, thank God Houston is STUPID!!!!!! I always knew Reggie Bush was a saint (given the bs that has come out about him), but now he is a Saint!!!

I'm still surprised at our pick of Jay Cutler.. i guess that this signals the beginning of the end for Jake Plummer!!! He could be our Phillip Rivers, Tarl!! (Cutler, not Jake the Snake!) lol...

Congrats hcmv007, on Reggie Bush joining your New Orleans Saints!! With him and Drew Brees, it should be a great boost to their offence. Not to take anything away from Deuce McCallister, but he his coming off an injury and it might be difficult for him to get back in his form.

Tarl, yeah I'm kinda shocked that Oakland passed on Leinart as well.. Oh well its their loss ( I wonder if the Raiders play the Cardinals this year!!). All i can say is Good luck Aaron Brooks!! :D :D

Way to go Johnboy on your Eagles picking up Jeremy Bloom!! I am pretty sure you guys won't be disappointed in him.. Despite him not play in a couple of years (due to the NCAA ruling about him accepting endorsements to finance his Olympic skiing career), he has speed!! Start him off on special teams, and then possibly move him to a receiver!!

Congrats on BUSH! That was collossal! Brees will now play the exact role his did in SD which was to compliment his RB and not try to be a superstar-New Orleans has had the best offsean 1-2 punch combo addition as any team I can remember as long as I've followed football. Well done N.O., Your city deserves it.

Re: Raiders. I love Safety Michael Huff but QB Matt Lienart is 37-2 as a starter, won 2 national championships and nearly a third if the USC Defense paid attention to Vince Young's running, and has a Hiesman trophy to boot(irrelevant I know but still a nice credential). I say they blew it.Time will tell but if I was a Raider fan I'd be pretty pissed off...but the LIONS have to be even worse...Matt Millen = idiot.

The buzz around here I guess is pretty positive about Cutler. I'm pretty happy with our draft this year and am optimistic, since we pretty much kept our core team from last year, intact.

This positive buzz makes a nice distraction from our Nuggets getting their  kicked by those damn Clippers in the first round of the NBA playoffs!! :D At least the Avalanche are doing a lot better in the NHL playoffs! :D Oh well, now I can focus fully on the the upcoming NFL season and Red Sox baseball will keep me occupied until training camp and pre-season!!
