Wow! I'm surprised that a Charger fan's favorite QB was John Elway, Tarl!!lol What about Dan Fouts?? lol

I love the Foutsmiester but ya gotta give credit where credit is due. Elway is the best ever, inmo. And we coulda had him in '83 when we had 3 # 1 pics to give Baltimore. :D

And Al Michaels...Michaels is expected to attempt to break his contract with ESPN, reportedly an eight-year, $32 million deal, to join Madden on NBC's Sunday night NFL telecasts, which debut in September. And ESPN officials apparently are going to let him out of the contract...

:D

Tarl--Al Michaels was let out of his contract today. And which is why we have the newly announced ESPN Monday night crew just hours ago.

Anyone know if NFL Primetime will still be around next season? I believe that it is being moved to Monday nights, and hopefully both Chris Berman and Tom Jackson will be still doing it. I love those two!! Especially Berman's nicknames and songs for the various players! Here are some of my favorites:

Sean McDonald- St.Louis Rams: "Sean McDonald goes to the farm, E-I-E-I-Oh!"

Adam Archaletta- St.Louis Rams: " Adam "Golden" Archaletta! He'll have the fries, he'll have the pie with that Happy Meal! "

Carson Palmer- Cincinnati Bengals: " Da-da-da-dada, da-da-dada! Heeers Carson!!"

Josh McCown- Arizona Cardnials: " Josh "Tears of" McCown (reference to the Smokey Robinson song, Tears of a Clown)

Jake Delhomme- Carolina Panthers: " Jake "Daylight come, and you gotta" Delhomme!"

Marc Bolger- St. Louis Rams- Scarecrow song from Wizard of Oz, after the actor Ray Bulger who played the Scarcrow. " If i could onlythrowatouchdowntoTorryHolt!!"

R.W.McQuarters- Detroit Lions: " R.W.McQuarters, makes change!!"

And some of my favorite expressions he does:

" Bills special teams!! " and "Nobody circles the wagons like the Buffalo Bills!"

" The GEEEEEE-Men!" (NY Giants)

"Come on Seattle!!"

Hey, it appears Ricky Williams is on the mary jane once again. I just laughed my head off at that. It appears Reefer Williams missed another drug test, did not show up. Bye-Bye career!

* starts to sing Rick James' "Mary Jane"* lol!! Oh boy! Ricky, Ricky, Ricky!! What a dope! (no pun intended!!) There were rumors that Denver was interested in Ricky Williams, but I can safely say this should squash them.. I'd rather them taking a chance with going after T.O. than making another mistake with Mr. Hollistic medicine man and and winding up with a situation like Maurice Clarett!

I'm curious as to why you have Vince Young rated so low. Even with his unorthodox delivery I'd put him at #2 or possibly at #1 along with Leinart. I like Croyle so I hope he can make the adjustment at the next level & become a real good QB. I also think Santonio Holmes & David Thomas are rated a little low IMO. Avant was great in 05 but Holmes really came on at the end of the year, & so did Thomas. Both have great hands as well. Maybe they will rate higher at the end of the combines.

Young has what I like to call unfamiliarity with a center snap. He has been in the gun for a while, and I think he needs time to adapt. HE needs to stay in the pocket and alter his game if he is to succeed in the NFL. I have no doubt he is a top ten pick, and that test he took is not applicable to me at this point. I just happen to think he is the 5th best QB at this point and so far, I have not changed my mind. Re: Santonio Holmes, he is one who has risen a lot, but I need to review his times et al. Thomas IMO is going to be the steal of the draft at TE, which I have as a much better position than WR for this draft b/c the porspects are all very good.

I hope to get to the defense sometime in the next 2 weeks, as I have been swamped with work, and left with little time to play.

Young had a spectacularly low wonderlic score too. He took it twice and got a 6 and 16 out of 50.

QB Ryan Fitzpatrick of the Rams, a Harvard grad, got a perfect 50.

One recent change is that cutler has moved ahead of young on many lists because young scored 6 out of 50 on his written exam which is horrible for a qb (tests quick thinking, etc.). It is now thought that the order will be Bush (texans), Leinart (saints), Ferguson (titans) and cutler (jets) for the top four

(sorry bout that, I guess someone already mentioned the test score thing)

Other news, NFL Free Agencty to start Mon, due to continuous labor negotiations. I am confident a deal will be worked out this weekend.

Now, I have been named the GM of all 32 NFL teams. This is not my official mock draft, but just who I, the ultimate NFL GM would pick for this draft. No trades no nothing, on with the show!

1. Houston Texans-Have done well with Dominack Davis as their RB, recently have committed to David Carr as their QB. What do they need OL. Not Reggie Bush. The pick here is D'Brickashaw Ferguson T Virginia
2. New Orleans Saints-Ticket sales have begun to rise. That doesn't impactr them here, but it's good news. Saints will lose Darren Howard to free agency, and have a glaring need at QB. But before I post my pick, what do the following players have in common: Lawrence Taylor and Julius Peppers? Both were 2nd overall picks. The next Brett Favre is NOT Jay Cutler but Brodie Croyle, who WILL be available in Rd 2. Mario Williams DE NC ST is the choice here.
3. Tennesee Titans-Yes they have committed to Steve McNair and rightfully so. No WR is worth taking here, but I would reunite Norm Chow and Matt Leinert QB USC
4. New York Jets-Have a lot of needs, particularly QB. But an aging O-Line and Defensive problems are here. I need butts in the seats. Reggie Bush RB USC
5. Green Bay Packers-No Brett Favre? Aaron Rogers is ready. Ahman Green should be back as well, so no need for an RB. Defense was terrible, and since mario is gone, I have to settle for Haloti Ngata DT Oregon, which isn't really settling, as he is the best DT in the draft
6. San Francisco 49ers-Alex Smith is my guy for QB, so how do I help him? By helping my defense, which couldn't stop a pee wee football team. AJ Hawk LB Ohio State should bring some toughness needed in this defense.
7. Oakland Raiders-Art Shell returns to the sidelines and has a very talented team on offense, but a mess on defense. Charles Woodson? Gone. I get his replacement in Jimmy Williams CB Virginia Tech
8 Buffalo Bills-QB controversey, no Eric Moulds for next year. This team is a mess. I want a great offensive player, but have too many needs on defense to ignore. Dick Jauron needs a defense to be successful. Michael Huff CB Texas is a start for a bad secondary.
9. Detroit Lions-DL played well late into the season, but that is where they need help the most. Offense is fine, but man, I need help for my D, so I take Tamba Hali DE Penn State to shake things up on my D Line
10. Arizona Cardinals-WR? Check QB? Check OL? Check RB? No Defense? What defense? Denny Green can get D help later on, but there is a snowball's chance in Arizona I let DeAngelo Williams RB Memphis wait any longer.
11. St Louis Rams-Offensive minded new coach knows he has a bad defense here, so why not add speed to the offense, i take the best guy out there, and hack of the rest of the teams. Vernon Davis TE Maryland
12. Cleveland Browns-Offense is starting to gel, but my boy Romeo needs defense. Top 2 ends are gone, as is the DT I know he wanted. But, i give him something better. Chad Greenway LB Iowa
13. Baltimore Ravens-To quell the dissatisfied players, i have to be careful here. I am to committed to Kyle Boller to take Cutler or Young, but I do need help on my team. LenDale White RB USC will make me happy
14. Philadelphia Eagles-Defense wasn't too bad last year, but no TO = No playoffs. Good news Donovan-Chad Jackson WR Florida brings the playmaker qualities you need here.
15. Atlanta Falcons-Defense was down last year, I have a lot of young weapons on offense, so I turn to my Defense. Or do I? Eric Winston OT Miami is my choice to protect Vick
16. Miami Dolphins-Nick Saban needs a QB. What Nick Saban needs, he gets. Jay Cutler QB Vanderbilt
17. Minnesota Vikings-Brad Childress has to like the talent here already. But that defense needs a little punch to it. DeMeco Ryans LB Alabama will give him just that.
18. Dallas Cowboys-Bill Parcells is ticked that Miami got Cutler, but Drew Bledsoe did fare well last year, so he turns to his O Line, so I get him what he needs. Winston Justice OT USC should put something back in Big D.
19. San Diego Chargers- Need a CB to help out big play allowing prone secondary. Tye Hill CB Clemson is my choice to cover those WR's in this division.
20. Kansas City Chiefs-Herm Edwards is mad at losing Hill, but is happy here nonetheless. Ashton Youboty CB Ohio State is available and gone here.
21. New England Patriots have been unconventional in the past, but Atlanta beat me to the guy we really wanted. Too bad the only guy Bellicheck wants is Marcus McNeill OT Auburn to bring some toughness back into the O Line
22. Washington Redskins-Al Saunders is the new OC. Got WR? They do now. Santonio Holmes WR Ohio State should fit in nicely, don't you think?
23. Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Improved Offense with Cadillac. Mike Clayton should be back to his rookie form, and Chris Simms is my QB. But I need defense, badly. Ernie Sims LB Florida State gives me what I need.
24. Cincinatti Bengals-Good Offense, even if Carson Palmer is rehabbing. But man o man was my D burned when it counted. Darryl Tapp DE Virginia Tech gives me what I want, pressure up front.
25. Chicago Bears-I need Lovie to find and settle on a QB now. But he needs some help on Offense as well as defense. I am in a quagmire here! Help arrives in the form of Bobby Carpenter LB Ohio State to give me a moment to breath, and take some pressure off of my boy Urlacher
26. New York Giants-I need a DL, but none are available. My secondary though needs help. But my offense sucks, and I need a playmaker, so WR is out. I have to settle on the DL. Broderick Buntly DT Florida State
27. Carolina Panthers-I need a WR. Problem is, if I can't run the ball, Delhomme is a sitting duck. Laurence Maroney RB Minnesota should spell DeShaun Foster until he gets back up to speed
28. Jacksonville Jaguars-I like my team as is, despite the plyoff setback. Sinorice Moss WR Miami should give me the punch i need to help my passing game.
29. Denver Broncos-I will allow Mike Shanahan to take a wild pick here and there. Since I do sign TO for him, he needs to look at his defense. NO trvor Pryce? How about Mathias Kiwanuka DE Boston College, Mike?
30. Indianapolis Colts-Still trying to get over their, lets face it. We choke. But, I need my defense to match my offense, which will be tough without Edge. Wait, he is available? Time for a surprise pick. Maurice Drew RB UCLA
31. Seattle Seahawks-I need to sign Sean Alexander Pronto. I do, but I need to have something else. How about a Tightr End who backs it up and makes the big catches for a change? Leonard Pope TE Georgia
32. Pittsburgh Steelers-I do resign Randle El, but no Bettis is alright as Willie Parker and Duce Staley can get the job done. It might be a reach, but the physical tools are there. And I have faith in my coach that he will not drop any passes in crunch time. Derrick Hagans WR Arizona State

There. Whew! Again, this is ONLY if I were the GM of all 32 teams, this is who I would pick.

Yes, I agree Seannery!! I'm more worried about that at the moment than what happend at the Combine and the upcoming draft. The NFL Free Agent period has been extended til 12:00am Monday ET, but the two sides are still a long, long way apart from reaching a deal!! :D This most likely means 2007 will be uncapped and a possible 2008 lockout!! Haven't these fools learned anything from the 2004 NHL lockout??!! Also, several big name players from every team are gonna have to be cut (Denver has already been forced to cut RB Mike Anderson, DE Trevor Pryce and TE Jeb Putzier, and I'm NOT happy about it!!)

Tarl, it looks like the Chargers weren't able to get a deal done with Drew Brees, so he's a free agent!! Do you think they'll manage to get him back or will he get snagged up by another team??

This is great news.. Well It still appears that several big name players might still be let go as part of free agency.. The Patriots have cut Willie McGinnest. It also appers that Daunte Culpepper really wants out of Minnesota, so this is important news to Vikings fans.

When I got back from my Wed night class, that was the best news of the day!

Now that the CBA is done, I can focus on the draft! I have spent hours combing over websites, looking at 40 times, stats, etc. and have formed my lists. Over the next two weeks, I should have my top prospects at all positions except kickers (Who cares about the kicker LOL). I'll likst my top 5, plus 2 sleepers who I think will have great careers, but won't be an early round pick.

Edgerrin James is a Cardinal. What?! I guess he will never get a ring now, but thier QB is not named Manning, so he may get a shot yet!

No word on Drew Brees-he visited the Saints this weekend, and will speak to the Dolphins sometime today.

It looks like the top rumors have Daunte Culpepper heading to Oakland. Kerry Collins could be a Raven, I think sometime this week, but I would not be surprised if he became a Saint again. He had a good relationship with Sean Payton while he was w/ the Giants.

I think Brees goes to the Dolphins but if he does go to the Saints then the draft order is up in the air--the Saints then won't take Leinhart #2. I would think they probably trade #2 then.

It would have been nice if the NFL and NFLPA could have gotten this deal done sooner, since all of the delay gave the Jets and Chad Pennington time to renegotiate his deal. Had it been done on time (or even before the first delayed deadline), Pennington would have been released, the Jets would have freed up some cap room, and we could have gone after a good franchise QB to lead us back to the playoffs in another year or two. Now, we've got money tied up in a QB who probably won't make much of an impact for us this year, and the probability that Patrick Ramsey is going to be the starter (once that deal gets done) when it's determined that Pennington won't be able to go. Believe it or not, I think that this coming season for the Jets could actually be worse than this past season.

And, even though Pittsburg payed off the ref's, Seattle's the best in the AFC too!

So it looks like free agency is beginning to heat up!!

Edgerin James is now an Arizona Cardinal (lets see how the loss of him affects the Indianapolis Colts!)

Antwan Randle El is now with the Redskins

both Trevor Pryce and Mike Anderson, former Broncos, have now signed with Baltimore, and Kerry Collins could very well be on his way there, if Oakland is succesful in getting Daunte Culpepper to reunite with Randy Moss.

Tarl, it looks like there is a serious chance of Drew Brees signing with either the Dolphins or Saints.. What happens to San Diego then? Will it be time for Phillip Rivers to take the reigns and prove that he was worth the draft swap for Eli Manning??

oh and Joe Jurivicious is now a Cleveland Brown

Very interesting--Miami just traded for Daunte Culpepper from Minnasota for a second round pick. If he fully recovers this has potential for Miami. He just needs to cut down on the mistakes.

Ok, I'll admit I am shocked. And sad. I know how Brosnan fans feel right about now.I liked Drew Brees. I went to the Colts-Chargers game in Indy on my b-day and saw him give an MVP performance ending their 13-0 streak...It's a sad day for me and for San Diego. I am also sad for Drew Brees because I think his career will deteriorate in New Orleans...he shoulda at least signed with Miami. And if they take Matt Lienart he still will not have his own team for the long haul. :D

But...what can I do? We have a young gunslinger named Philip Rivers who we drafted 4th overall and regarded him to be superior to Eli Manning and Ben Rothliesberger-both outstanding players.Rivers tossed 95 TDs in college so he has some upside. At 6'5 240 he can be a dangerous pocket passer but not much of a runner, ie a Peyton Manning mold guy...

*sigh* Go Chargers!

Hmm... Well i guess it isn't a total shock that Brees is now a Saint officialy! i don't know Tarl, he could actually be a good thing for New Orleans..new coach, new QB who knows??!! Well I'll be interested in seeing how Phillip Rivers does..

Daunte Culpepper meanwhile... Interesting he's going to Miami. Could also be a good thing for that team (who have yet to find a suitable successor to Dan Marino). This all likely means that the Raiders might keep Kerry Collins after all.. hmmm..
