I'm very interested in seeing this Larry David/Woody Allen collaboration, but there's no sign of a UK release, and if it does get released in the UK it will surely slink into about 7 screens nationwide and take a fair old while to hit DVD, or skip the cinema and take an eon to hit DVD. So I've decided to import it from the US. £14, which is more than I usually pay for DVDs, but then it's about the standard price for a new DVD during its pre-sale release over here, so it's not too bad. It's got a mixed response, I just hope I'll be one of the ones who likes it. Somehow I think I will be.

The Simpsons: The Complete Twentieth Season on Blu-ray. Haven't had a chance to check it out yet but I'm curious to see how the shows look in this format.
I love how they'll take ages to release Seasons 14 - 19.

Whatever Works
I'm very interested in seeing this Larry David/Woody Allen collaboration, but there's no sign of a UK release, and if it does get released in the UK it will surely slink into about 7 screens nationwide and take a fair old while to hit DVD, or skip the cinema and take an eon to hit DVD. It´s possible. I´m a long-time admirer of Woody Allen´s films. Yet, I must admit that his career began a new phase with "Small Time Crooks". The following movies just weren´t as strong anymore as his work in the years prior to that. Although I have begun to like "Anything else" (it took my three viewings to appreciate it) and, of course, "Match Point" is very good also, all other films during the last decade were kind of "good but by far not as good as his previous ones".
"Whatever works" begins very strong IMO and then it settles into another routine of Woody´s greatest hits. It´s still fun and Larry David is a perfect Woody-variation. But in the end I had expected more. Maybe I will appreciate it more after more viewings.

Cliffhanger
Found these cheap enough to merit double-dipping for their UK Optimum/Studio Canal DVD re-releases. I wanted the re-release of Cliffhanger because it's uncut (well, as uncut as the US R-Rated cut); the previous UK DVD had over a minute very sloppily cut out to receive a 15 certificate (the UK VHS release had the same stuff cut, but not as sloppily). That it also has better extras than the previous release is a nice bonus. First Blood I double-dipped just for the extras, especially the Stallone and David Morrell commentaries.

All the extra's and both films on one disc, picture and sound are top notch and these 2 films have shot up alongside Inglourious Basterds & Let The Right One In as my essenstial watches of 2009. Simply stunning and it's Director Jean-François Richet would be ideal for Bond, no problems if this guy can shoot action or not.

There's a few technical inaccuracies in this film, but George C. Scott, and Karl Malden make up for it.

The Director's Cut and Ultimate Cut have more than one disc. That said, given the dreary and dull quality of the special features, it might have been nice if they'd just released them as single-disc sets.

I've started watching The Final Destination in 3D, and the glasses are terrible, so I gave up. I've switched over to 2D.

I got the Underworld Trilogy on Blu-Ray. So there!
The first 2 are pretty shocking so I can only imagine what the 3rd one is like!

Call me a kid, I DON'T CARE!

The thing is though, these are US Imports, so I just hope these will play on my Laptop. I have VLC, which apparently plays everything.
