I vote for Michael Vartan BIG TIME!!

I love Matthew McConaughey but I don't think he would take a role as a non leading character.. and he is too famous and too good looking not to totally overshadow Craig.
Vartan to me is extremely good looking, far more than Craig in my opinion, so since I'm less than thrilled about Craig, at least I'll have a good reason to be the first at the movie theater door when CR opens! LOL

Leiter should mirror Bond in a way, so I'd go for someone like Michael Vartan (that's if he can do not-miserable. He's always blooming miserable in Alias). I'm not to keen on Vartan himself, but it has to be someone around his age, perhaps a bit beefier and less depressed.

I've had a list of actors I think would be good at playing Felix. Some won't work as they're bigger stars then Craig and some won't work depending on the characterization of Felix they're going with.

My List:

Bill Paxton - 51 year old Texan has proven he can play leading and supporting roles. Recently completed filming the first season of his HBO series "Big Love" so he could be available. May be too old.

Dennis Quaid - 52 year old Texan is well known and has had a long and successful career. Would possibly overshadow Craig and may be too old. Has a film in pre-production so would possibly be unavailable.

William H. Macy - 56 year old character actor has appeared in numerous films. Has multiple films in pre-production so is likely unavailable. Age a factor as well.

Matthew McConaughey - 37 year old Texan is major star and has a reliable track record in Hollywood. Right age but would certainly overshadow Craig and is much better looking. Also has multiple films in pre-production.

Josh Lucas - 35 year old from Arkansas has steadily moved up the Hollywood ladder. His film's "Stealth" was a major bomb for SONY and "Glory Road" has only done decent business but Lucas is blamed for neither. Is currently filming "Poseidon" a remake of the "Poseidon Adventure." Although more well known then Craig he isn't a major star yet. A solid choice if available.

Luke Wilson - 35 year old Texan, brother to Owen Wilson who is unquestionably the more famous of the two. Has appeared in several hit films including "Old School" and co-starred with Rachel McAdams in "The Family Stone." Is currently filming "My Super Ex-Girlfriend." Another good choice if available.

Actually outside of Alias, most of Vartan's movies have been romantic comedies...Monster-in-law, Never been kissed, etc, so he can probably do 'sunny' without much trouble!

Well the perfect choice for Felix Leiter would be Mark-Paul Gosselaar.

He's an actor who'd be right for the job, and isn't really doing much at the moment.

Hire Gosselaar! He's not a major star, and its known for his work in NYPD Blue. I think he's the perfect actor for Felix, and would work well with Craig.

I like Vartan and Sutherland, but they are too identified with their tv series and too obvious as a choice. It must be a lesser known actor.

Holy Craparoni! Why did I never think of him! He WOULD be perfect. But he's filming Lost. Damn! Okay tell you what, I'm going to stand behind Casper Van Dien for CR, but as soon as Leiter is cast, I'm going with Holloway. Damn, I never thought of Holloway as Leiter. I really am so mad at myself.

Holloway would be excellent, if he were made to shave off that bizarre little Matt Groening beard. The right-hand picture looks a lot like my mental image of Felix, right down to the wry smile, sharp chin, and hawkish nose. He has the same general look as Matthew McConaughey, but a much lower profile. The producers would be wise to check him out.

In an earlier post, I put my vote for Josh Holloway, but now I'm wondering -- should they take the Never Say Never Again route? An African American Felix Leiter would be pretty cool, especially if the guy was able to convey --as Bernie Casey did with Connery-- a sense of real cameraderie with Daniel Craig. Felix could still be a Texan and stay true to his character in the novel, but bring more diversity to the cast. If they can find someone who resembles the Felix Leiter of the book, that's cool. Just a random thought.

If Jeff Goldblum were younger, I could actually see him in the role, even though he'd be imposingly tall, and as un-Texan as they come.

With a blond Bond, it might be prudent to cast a dark-haired Felix.

I think most of the suggestions are too well-known, too young and too good looking. Bill Paxton probably best. OK Craig gets the part on his rugged charm rather than good looks, but I don't think there's any point in emphasising that by putting him next to someone staggeringly gorgeous like Josh Holloway, although I can see how well he would fit. I also would prefer an older actor, as Felix often seems to be a steadying influence on Bond and I believe we should appeal to a wider audience, not just those who want to see an action movie with a young, trendy cast.
