I'd much prefer House himself, Hugh Lawrie.I agree. Omar Epps, from "House, M.D." would be a good choice if you want Bond to get an afro-american sidekick.

Not a bad call.
I can't think of anyone better right now...
I was thinking along the lines of Matthew Fox who plays Jack in ABC's "Lost":

But I think Gary Sinise is better.

You may very well be the one who lead me up the Lawrie as Leiter path, tdalton.I'd much prefer House himself, Hugh Lawrie.I agree. Omar Epps, from "House, M.D." would be a good choice if you want Bond to get an afro-american sidekick.
I think that Hugh Lawrie would be a good Felix Leiter as well. I've got him somewhere in the top 5.

Why not have Paul Walker as Felix Lieter! He's definitly got a harder edged look about him, and he has tons of appeal with the ladies. Though, people may complain there's too much of Craig and not enough of Walker, lol!

I don't know if this has been mentioned before.....

Paul Walker can't act for goodness sake.

Bond is a more passive character today than his previous incarnations. imo of course...
I couldn't agree more, Blox. He has come across as emasculating at times...

Its a little sad that Dafoe is typecasted as villians all the time(although he does make a fantastic villian). He has played several roles where he was a type of cop/detective and even a CIA operative in Clear and Present Danger. He is a brilliant actor and it would be nice to see him in a supporting good guy role.
Welcome to CBn, Agent.

This is gonna seem like a big deal to others, but the perfect actor for Felix would be Matthew McConaughey. Why, well he fits the description of Felix from the Fleming novels almost perfectly. That Texan accent is just right. The biggest star of the movie should be Bond, so his role should be REALLY limited!
McConaughey is not going to go from doing leading man roles to playing a fifth billed supporting character in someone else's franchise. Neither are Paul Walker, Josh Lucas, or about 90% of all the other suggestions put forward in this thread. Assuming Leiter is even in the film in the first place, it isn't going to be a star playing him.
And while we're here, its probably time for another plug for former Alias star Michael Vartan, who is in the perfect position of not being too famous for the role, but recognizable enough to not be a total unknown. (He is currently filming an Aussie movie called Rogue, co-starring...Sam Worthington. Small world?)

How about Matt Dillon for the role of the American agent. He could play this similar to Jack Lord in Dr No. Whether this would be Leiter, and forgetting about losing his leg in LTK or another American agent is anyone's guess. He has taken supporting roles recently and may be tempted if the script is good.
Yeah Matt Dillon would be a good choice. He's been doing the supporting/ensemble roles lately so he isn't too big for the gig; he's also getting Oscar buzz as a best supporting actor candidate for Crash. Plus his Crash director Paul Haggis could put in a good word for him

It needs to be a good actor but not a huge A-list star with a similar age to Craig (35-40). And he definitely needs to be signed to a multi-film deal. Heck, if he overshadows Bond and people love him, make a spinoff movie. If people at EON think the first name is too "old" change it to Alex Leiter or something.
This ought to be the one of the first times the two meet and Leiter ought to be fully healthy.
As far as continuity goes, there have to be at least alternate universes for the different Bond films just due to age.
Connery --> Lazenbery--> Connery --> Moore (all roughly the same age... 50-80s Bond)
Dalton --> Bronsan (80s-00s Bond)
Craig (00-?? Bond)
Therefore I have no problem with doing somewhat of a reboot and ignoring what happens in LTK.
