I think it was 1996 or so when Star Wars merchandise just exploded around here. It seemed you had to have one of the tiny model ships of action figures to be cool.

I remember owning a lot of the action figures and Micro-Machines they released then.

I guess the worst (as in geekiest) Star Wars merchandise my family owns is a plastic Darth Vader, and Stormtrooper mask we got at some store in SF years ago.

I kind of came into it too late to own the action figures when everyone else did. :) I suppose I didn't care as much at first, and then we bought the trilogy boxed set. :)

I inherited a massive amount of Star Wars toys several years back. They are all still in their packages and boxes, never been opened. If anyone is interested in buying them for whatever purposes they deem fit, let me know!

I'm beginning to think that Star Warss merchandise is on it's way out.

Not with the next film coming out in May, and the release of the "Original Trilogy" on DVD. Not by a long shot is out. Lucasarts also has a highly successful computer game series, that shows no real signs of stopping.

As a matter of fact, Hasbro is starting to produce action figures once more from both trilogies.

It's nowhere near as popular as it used to be, even when the first two prequels came out and that's a fact. We'll see with this one.

That may be true, but even the prequels have been absolutely enormous blockbusters, proving there is still a large enough fan base in the market.

If they ever release the Original Trilogy with none of the Special Edition additions (Greedo shooting first...), I could see it being the most popular DVD ever produced. Even the upcoming Special Ed. releases are breaking records in pre-order sales, and that's missing many fans who refuse to buy it.

Yes, the prequels have done business on the box office. However, they're really not capitilizing on it enough or the Star Wars merchandise just seems stale. I remember even in the late 90's when there was no new film but only news about the trilogy that there was always items selling. Now, even with two new films and a third on the way, it doesn't seem to be that same story.

I've been listening to the BBC show that featured David Arnold, and they mentioned Ep. III in later discussion with someone else, and they said SITH is an anagram for something.

No idea for what... :)

Maybe they're wrong.

I've been reading up on such a topic, this Star Wars film is the first to actually get me reading about on the internet. Can't say I've come across anything remotely plasuible except for some who say it's more helpful to switch the letters around into another word. :)

lol..well I'm certainly looking forward to Revenge of the Sith. Its funny how the last couple of Bonds were released the same year as a Star Wars film: 1999: Episode I: Phantom Menace and The World is Not Enough, 2002: Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Die Another Day, and now 2005: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and most likely Bond 21!

Wouldn't that be nice! I hope we will be seeing Bond 21 in 2005. I have that year all planned out for sequels to see. Batman, Bond, Star Wars, the mentioned Die Hard, the mentioned Jurassic Park, even if it might be 2006 also.

Comingsoon.net has some more teaser posters, whether they are genuine are not is debateable.

I like the poster Agent76 posted, very ominous.

Interesting. I hadn't expected this much for publicity, regarding such things as posters yet. Even though this is a big film.

I want an older styled one.

It's only a teaser poster.

I imagine it will still be a while before we get the real poster for it.

Yes, of course, just still a bit surprised.

I'm hoping they go for the less is more idea for Episode 3's poster.

Inspired by hrabb04's STAR TREK movies thread:

:) STAR WARS (sorry, I refuse to call it A NEW HOPE) - the best of the series. Enough said.

:) THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK - vastly overrated. The scenes on Hoth go on far too long, and there's too much gloom and doom throughout. Worth it for Yoda, though.

:) RETURN OF THE JEDI - mediocre end to the first trilogy, but fun if you're in the right mood. As with EMPIRE's Yoda, we have a creature who steals the show - Jabba the Hutt. Harrison Ford has great fun as Han Solo.

:) STAR WARS EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM MENACE - underappreciated beginning to the saga. Jake Lloyd and Jar Jar Binks let the side down a bit, but the script, score and effects are all excellent. Wonderful new creatures (check out the guy who has problems getting started at the pod race), and an awesome villain in Darth Maul.

:) STAR WARS EPISODE II: ATTACK OF THE CLONES - second best of the series. Thought-provoking script, fine performances, and some of the most imaginative design and effects ever seen.

:) STAR WARS: A fine film to open the series, naturally a little slower in the beginning, but excellent.

:) THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK: Overrated indeed, a fun film, but just doesn't carry all the way through.

:) RETURN OF THE JEDI: Jabba the Hut scenes are dull, rest of the film is brilliant.

:) STAR WARS EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM MENACE: A fair film. 2 and a half stars is more appropriate. Good characters, but some scenes seem to fall down.

:) STAR WARS EPISODE II: ATTACK OF THE CLONES: A good film, but I cannot stand Christianson's lust and babyish whining. Not enough time spent in space, but Lee's Dooku is fantastic.

STAR WARS: :)

A bit of a slow start trying to explain everything, but ends extraordinarily well. Great dialog. Themes for the Force, and from the Main title are slightly overused throughout, but not enough to cause problems.

THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK: What was once my least favorite has become the best IMO. Best everything. :) Is not the least bit overrated. Best music of the series, with the introduction of the Imperial March.

RETURN OF THE JEDI: Another slow beginning, but the scenes with the Emperor are great. :). Death of Yoda is a classic. Music excellent, Emperor's music quite haunting

THE PHANTOM MENACE: The best beginning of the five, until we encounter Jar Jar. Pod race really slows it down, Jake Lloyd should not have been cast. :) Introduces the excellent Duel of the Fates. (Looking back then, I was the right age, had the apparent look, fairly older voice, and resided in California... I could have been young Anakin) :)

ATTACK OF THE CLONES: The worst. Not the writing entirely, just Hayden's poor acting ability. Ewan was good, Portman was good, and Lee was good. :) Score highlight is Across the Stars, great love theme.

Almost everyone was good except Hayden.

Hell, Yoda had a better performance.

I'm not sure if I am just imagining things, but in the theaters, I though Yoda made a hand gesture, for Dooku to bring it on, which is not on the DVD.

Anyone else notice it, if it ever existed?

It would be kinda funny if it were true. I remember after seeing it just picturing Yoda reciting dialogue like "Mine your butt is! Kick you into oblivion I will!"

These are the things I tend to think about when it gets really hot. :)

My only beef with AOTC was the love story aspect. Yeesh, even soap operas are better written.

Um...not that I'd know or anything. I mean...so I'm told. :)
