I have not watched any of the Lord of the Rings movies.  The closest I have gotten was Lord of the G-Strings on Cinemax.

:)

Well I recommend the series to you, all fantastic films.

Actually, the Lord of the Rings Trilogy is stupid and boring. I've never seen any of the films because I know if I did I would puke.

Joke: What is the difference between a brother/sister relationship in America and a brother/sister relationship in the Star Wars universe?

I just made this joke up so you may find it stupid and not funny.

Answer:

/spoiler.gif
In America, the brother and sister know of their relation.
/gen_line.gif

Yeah, that one scene in Empire does seem pretty creepy after you watch Jedi.

I wonder if Leia just thought back top that moment after she found out Luke was her brother and just did one of those full body shivers.

But how would you know how the films are if you admitted that you haven't even seen any of them?

Regardless of the merits of the films, that criticism doesn't work on any conceivable level.

I hate the fantasy genre. It's queer and boring.

I find the mob genre extremely dull and obnoxious, yet The Godfather and Godfather II are two of the most superb films ever. You can

Speaking of The Godfather, the son of the author who is writing the new Godfather novel used to go to my school. He was in my class.

There's plenty of people who don't like fantasty who like Lord of the Rings, just like there's plenty of people who don't like sci-fi who like Star Wars. It's because that both film series don't really belong to the genre they've been put in and end up transcending it to become something much bigger.

I can understand that you hate the fantasy genre - fair enough. But to say that the LOTR films are stupid and boring without having seen them is a real arrogant statement to make. Even when I don't like a film's genre, I can at least appreciate the film without liking it.

Why should I try something that I know I will hate?

I tried Never Say Never Again and hated it like I knew I would. I also am about to try Episodes I & II so it's not like I don't try movies.

I'm not asking you to try it - but I'm asking you to not be so closed minded about it. Many many people loved LOTR, so obviously there has to be something worth liking - even if you don't like it yourself.

Besides, saying "I know I'm going to hate a movie" before I watch it already closes my mind to it beforehand, affecting my moviegoing experience. I always try to watch a movie with an open mind, and then make my judgement after I've seen it. Even if I end up hating the movie, I can at least say that I tried to have an open mind about it.

Nothing annoys me more than people who claim they hate films they've never seen. If someone hasn't seen it then all they can say is "I think I wouldn't like it." You can never make an absolute statement about something you haven't experienced.

You can't know until you try.

Trying them and then voiceing an opinion is better.

Isn't Christopher Lee in the series? That would be the only reason I ever see The Lord of the Rings.

Yeah he is, and turns in a terrific performance. He's better here than he is as Dooku, IMO. He's just given better opportunities and scenes than he is in Attack of the Clones (his confrontation with Gandalf in FOTR is a great piece of cinema).

Yes, in the first and the second.

And in the soon-to-come Extended Edition of ROTK - where Gandalf and he get their final confrontation. The footage I've seen is excellent, with Saruman (Lee) hurling fire down from the top of his tower and the like. That confrontation was actually one of the best scenes in the books, so I'm wondering how good it'll be on film.

Apparently they are reinserting his scenes into the Extended Cut of RETURN OF THE KING!

That's actually quite a story. It was originally intended to be the end coda of Two Towers - but it didn't work there, so they moved it to early in ROTK. But the problem was it seemed like extraneous material for ROTK (it really was just wrapping up the story threads of TTT), and so they cut it and saved it for the Extended Edition.

I don't like fantasy at all either. However, to call the Lord Of The Rings films "queer and boring" merely by lumping them together with the entire genre is a tremendously vicious statement. Despite the fact I don't like the genre, I will admit that the films are good, but not ones that I'd be willing to watch on a regular basis. Slow; perhaps at times. But I would never call them boring. And I've actually seen them...

Cannot wait to see it. I was really dissapointed when it was said all scenes with him would be cut from the film.

I'm personally looking forward to Gandalf's all-out confrontation with the Witch King. The footage I saw of that looked awesome! The film really needs it, because without it, Gandalf's fear of the Witch King seems a little pointless.

It, being the one I know most of, I guess would qualify as the one I anticipate the most also.
