You're absolutely right about this, Bond Bug. And typically these bogus PR stories "break" in tabloids on weekends (as this one did) so they get a few days play before anyone can officially deny them. Bond seems to be a favorite target of PR companies because when it's "James Bond" the "news" tends to spread fast. Britney Spears as Bond Girl anyone? We've been through this 100 times. It's a common practise, yet unknown to people outside the industry, for stars or rising actors to get their management to contact entertainment sources and create fictitious news stories claiming their clients are in the running to play Bond. Happens all the time. If Eric Bana wanted to get free publicity, raise his profile some more, his agent could contact various news outlets and leak a false story saying he's been contacted to play Bond. As I say, this practise is not uncommon. So you have to eliminate all the garbage that gets associated with Bond.

"Oh dear Bond God, in our hour of need, please don't let the evil bland- Bana become Bond. He is most unsuited to play James Bond. Show us a sign that you will deliver and duly remove Bana's name from all things Bond."
Cheers!
That should work.

Actually I didn't write that. I copied it from the person on IMDB who also wrote the other newsbreaking story that was featured on another thread, to try and flush out the person among us who wrote it. I know who it is and thought I could provoke a reaction from that person as only he would notice what the IMDB writer wrote yesterday! Oh well I guess it must be near my bedtime when I get silly.

Not really. Do you really think they take 100% care in what they say? Unlikely. It just seems, like many times before, to be a chance for some news. You guys aren't worried about this Bana news on Yahoo??? why would Yahoo pick this rumor of all rumors to go with. We've had reports of othe r guys taking the role why have they chosen the one on Bana. Could it be (frightened voice) ttrruue?

News of the World is one of the trashiest newspapers on the planet. They probably got it off AICN. If they had confidence in it, that they were breaking the news, I'm sure they'd stick at least part of it on their front page.

Take a look at the News of The World picture of Bana in a tuxedo.
It is laughable that he could even be considered as Bond!

A carpet has more personality than the idea of him as Bond.

Most certainly a nice way to think about it. One of the most laughable rumors. At least any Bond fans seeing that picture will be relieved when the true Bond actor is announced! Maybe it is all for a reason!

Note they're both Australian sources. Our media will take the Aussie angle and run with it.One Report
And another
This rumor is spreading like wildfire beyond mere heresay.
In any case, the The Man With The Red Tattoo bit has shot whatever credibility this rumour had to pieces. Seems like someone read the AICN bit, added the The Man With The Red Tattoo rumour which, if I recall correctly, has come up before, and voila! An "exclusive"!

Good point [dark]. They actually had a chance before at a somewhat believeable rumor.

I just quick linked this News of the World story that sites 'The Man With The Red Tattoo' as Bond 21. I think it should be clear to any self-respecting Bond fan that this is pure tabloid invention.Good point [dark]. According to the Yahoo story the studio wants to "modernize" Bond and make him younger. I thought that's what xXx was for.
If this rumour is true this will mark the first time since AVTAK that I don't go see the movie the day it opens. I'll see it a few weeks later. He's too young and too lame to be Bond. Trying to change Bond's age and style is a very bad idea.

I would have agreed with you if I hadn't seen TROY. I think he was excellent in that movie."Bland, James Bland..."

Jackman's plate is completely full with equally lucrative deals, and he himself said he wasn't ready for Bond, so can we give it all a rest now!?!

Nothing has been confirmed though, this looks simply like a rumor. When you consider all the evidence and factors, Bana looks like the most obvious choice. He *is* the next James Bond.

He's a relative unknown Australian (I never heard of him until Hulk), he doesn't have 3 other franchises to commit to, and he fits in with the 'younger' Bond ideal.
I'm sorry, but there's no way Jackman is going to walk away from the half dozen projects he has lined up for 2005. And he's already said he's not interested in the part right now. So why are we even considering him? Stubborness.
As for the rest of the guys... are they really a leg up on Bana? Not really.
