I remember seeing commercials quite regularly for some movie with Michael Douglas called the "In laws" (i think). Whatever the movie was though, the instrumental version of Live And Let Die featured quite heavily in the commercial.

Must be to do with these half wits that are running things now - all 20 30 somethings and high on drugs. Any film prior to 1985 they have little knowledge of!

I'm not sure if anyone knows about this, and I haven't found any threads about it, so if someone did post this already, then I greatly apologize...

I'm sorry to say that I just found out today from a site that John Barry is no longer scoring the Pixar film, The Incredibles - I just found a brief article concerning this at www.musicfromthemovies.com. You can find the article here:
Barry's Out

Apparantly he's being replaced by Michael Giacchino, who made himself somewhat known among critics and fans by producing the quite successful scores to the Medal of Honor videogames - I myself have the score to the MOH: Frontline game, which is fantastic.

But I do know that this will be a major disappointment to a lot of you, who have been looking forward to the new Barry score. Just thought you guys should know...

I wish the reason was him returning to Bond.

But I'm quite content that David Arnold is returning. Although, a collaboration between Arnold and Barry would probably be really good, I'm willing to bet. They could probably give us one helluva Bond score together.

I'm not really a big Barry fan - I actually prefer Arnold's scores to his, although I love Barry's score to Raise the Titanic - I was kind of looking forward to this score. I thought it would be a fun, action-packed score, something along the lines of Jerry Goldsmith's scores to Gremlins 2 and Looney Tunes: Back in Action.

Speaking of new scores, from the tracks I heard on the Varese site, TIMELINE sounds fantastic and quite the epic. I loved Brian Tyler's Children of Dune and will grab this CD this afternnon at my local Best Buy. Movie opens tomorrow--what a way to start the holiday weekend.

I'm so disappointed. I was really looking forward to seeing how this all turned out and was hoping that we'd finally get some brand new Bond style music from Barry. :)

That sounds great! I've been looking forward to the Timeline score ever since Jerry Goldsmith's music was still being used. Actually, it was funny - the day before I heard that Goldsmith's score was rejected, a friend of mine (and a fellow CBn member, Alexborn007) sent me the track "Summon the Worms" from Children of Dune, and it was amazing. That was a great score, and I was somewhat satisfied that at least I knew the composer that would be taking over for Goldsmith. Now, for months I've been hoping that his Timeline score could be along the lines of his COD score - good and epic - and I'm gonna get it tonight. Looks like I'll hafta look for those audio clips!

This might've been mentioned already, but:

"Michael Giacchino has been officially signed as the composer of Pixar's next animated feature, The Incredibles, directed by Brad Bird (Iron Giant). The film is set to be released November 5th, 2004."

The only thing I know Giacchino for is the soundtracks for the Medal of Honor series of games.

I dunno, but this seems like a big blow to Barry fans. Did Barry have any other plans set these coming years?

I doubt if Barry had of scored the film it would in any way resemble his past Bond work, this is not a style he is interested in anymore - and rightly so in my opinion.

What is happening to Barry - he keeps getting rejected over and over again or he's walking away from films. It is now 3 years since a Barry film score.

I was under the impression that he had already written this score and possibly conducted it as well - if this is true, an entire score could have been rejected - which would be, understandably, a very bad blow to him. We may hear one or two cues from it in his next and final part of his 3 non-soundtrack albums, due 2004/5, as he has used several cues from rejected scores in the other albums - like The Horse Whisperer / The Grass Harp / Thomas And The Magic Railroad / The End Of The Affair / Goodbye Lover.

Also, it's been quite fashionable in recent years to release bootlegs of scores that were rejected for certain films. For example, I've heard that Graeme Revell's rejected score to Eaters of the Dead (which later became The 13th Warrior has found its way to CD, as did Alan Silvestri's rejected Mission: Impossible music. Not to mention, I'm pretty sure that most people are aware that Randy Newman's score to Air Force One, along with Joel McNeely's music, was released on CD.

So, if the score was fully recorded, then it's possibly that it will see a bootleg release.

I'm hoping that the Goldsmith score to Timeline sees the light of day...

You're right, Jack, about releasing rejected scores. Barry's "The Beyondness of Things" (which I love) contains some of his music he composed (and got rejected) for The Horse Whisperer starring Robert Redford.

Huh???:)

If you're referring to the use of the On Her Majesty's Secret Service theme in future Bond scores - why would they do that? That was the main theme to a previous Bond movie.

And if you're referring to the use of the theme in The Incredibles, even more so - why would they do that? It's not even a Bond movie, let alone On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

They used the OHMSS theme in the trailer for the movie and I was wanting to know if they could use it anymore now that Berry is gone from the picture.

lol - actually, Tonic, I started a thread with the EXACT SAME TITLE in "General Discussion". I find it hilarious.

I, too, know Giacchino from his amazing score to Medal of Honor: Frontline.

It's a shame that John Barry was replaced as composer of the film's music. Although, tragically, John Barry's recent film scores haven't been too terribly exciting. The score for Enigma seemed to be a recycle of John Barry compositions we have heard before. There seem to be musical themes or compositions that Barry has grown fond of, and he cannot seem to break out. The recent scores seem to sound the same.

Giacchino has also done a nice job with the Alias soundtrack. I believe there is a Varese CD due our soon, although there has been an Alias promo CD running a whole 30 minutes in circulation via other sources.

You'll notice that all the time, movie trailers for movies use music that is totally unrelated to the film that is being advertised. For example:

Yeah, I do recall that Varese either JUST released the CD, or is about to.

It's actually impressive to see what they've done with video game music these days - take Giacchino's music for the Medal of Honor series for example. Also a great piece of work is Harry Gregson-William's fantastic score to Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty....man, am I glad that he's coming back for Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater...:)

Let's not forget the orchestrated version of Clint Mansell's wonderful theme from Requiem For A Dream used in the Lord Of tThe Rings trailers. Superb stuff. I'm hooked on it at the moment.

Allow me to merge if you will.

Ah yes, excellent point, Dunphboy. If I recall, sometime after the trailer was released for The Two Towers (and maybe actually the movie, finally???), someone (I think it may have been Paul Oakenfold) who released a "Requiem For A Dream/Two Towers" mix of some sort.

Barry twice used his main theme to The Prince Of Tides - a film he walked away from, on his Moviola album and one of the cues to the IMAX film - Across The Sea Of Time.

I don't know anything about this; but was it actually certain that Barry was ever involved with this film? Was that just a mutated rumour stemming from the fact they used one his tracks for the trailer?
