Does anyone know if someone has managed to get the HL model viewer working on NF models? I have tried replacing header files but the problem is not the header.

no viewer will work trying to view the nightfire models except gearcraft (because of the specific file type). even though its a .mdl file, it is just a matter of the .mdl address, code, and format. i hate gearbox, ea, and mgm and whoever else decided not to release gearcraft.

Haha not dead just no new material. I don't think there's anyone out there interested in models and skins anymore besides you and me. I did what I could in getting the existing models skinned but I just can't get the model thing down. BTW has anyone attempted to change the models around, like swap Dom for Alura. I even thought about swapping some of the fixture model names around and see what happens. Like change the chair for a statue. Maybe I'll do some goofing around with textures and models for some screenshots.

i tried it, but it doesn't work. there is no way to change anything in nightfire except the sounds and movies. i was successful only once with acdsee, but after that, it wouldn't work.

"i was successful only once with acdsee, but after that, it wouldn't work."

Do you mean with the skins? I have no problems changing skin textures.

No clipping hasn't even uncovered anything interesting, there are a few places where you can walk around but nothing special. I did find noclipping annoying in Mayhew's japanese house because of the many loading screen trip areas.

ACDSee is what I use to convert my edited files to a PNG format but any single layer conversion tool should work. I know Photoshop has a problem with alpha channels in PNG so I use ACDSee to convert the skin to BMP, then edit with Photoshop (overkill, any graphic editor will do), and then ACDSee back to PNG. I use ACDSee because ACDSee ignores the alpha channel and merges all layers together for viewing and editing while Photoshop loads the pictures alpha channel as the main layer. I'm sure there is a way around this in Photoshop but I don't know how. The PNG files are 24bit in Nightfire because they seem to use the alpha channel like bump/gloss mapping. This layer is not available after ACDSee conversion.

When you do "save as" check the formats available. Most of the textures are 24bit but the Bond head is 32bit. I guess the PNG format is an attempt at gloss or bump mapping through alpha channel. Whatever the case if you're modifying a texture make sure you save it back at the original bit level. If your trying to create your own from scratch then try copying and pasting an original and then erasing everything, that way PSP will already know the bit level it opened.

Didn't get the e-mail, Yahoo doesn't deliver if the files are large. Try zipping one only and e-mailing it by itself.

Actually we have accomplished skinning the game/models. Since there are no editing tools skinning is about all we can do. Skinning the models was done before the game came out by using the demo files but the tools never came.

for everybody's info, I'm going to start programming upa NF model Viewer. Seeing as the Model format is so very similar to Half-life, I'm going to be using the basic model output code fro mthe Falf-life SDk and the Mdeol viewer related to it... gimme a couple of months and I'll see what I can do
