What's interesting with the stats is that they drop off in order of film. Does this reflect the effort that PB put into the later films, when he was on autopilot?

I watched Tomorrow Never Dies again today, and I have a higher level of respect for it. I think this is partially for the brooding hotel room scene.

The Brosnan era is really hard to chose my favourite from, just because in essence I like them all and all four have their strong points (yes even DAD, contrary to some believes lol).

GoldenEye marked the much needed return of Bond and it was felt all the way through the cinema when I saw it at the Premiere Day (December 7th 1995 if memory serves).
A great opening, great theme song, followed by nothing less than a Aston Martin/Ferrari matchup. Two words sum up another highlight: "tank" and "chase"....and "mayhem", ok 3 words.

TND delivers some wall to wall action (Jetplane, BMW, motorbike/helicopter) which are backed up by possibly David Arnold's finest score.
Good ol'fun (and relatively short compared to the others, shortest since Goldfinger I think?)Bond movie.

TWINE opens with a great boat chase and theme song. The action levels go down in quality I think the more the movie progresses (boat, skis, oilpipe, caviar house and finally a submarine scene that somehow dissappoints) although Pierce shows some of his finest performances after being betrayed.

DAD..what can I say. Whenever I wanna switch my brain of (and the DTS sound volume up)and enjoy Bond for all the things he unashamedly represents, I'll take this one pls ;-).
Cars on ice are just cool lol.

My favourite? Don't know in the end :-s...depends on my mood or which one I haven't seen longest...

Here's my rank of the Brosnan films:

1. GoldenEye - This is by far the best. I don't know what it is about it, but it's so strange how this is so distinguishable from the later Brosnan movies. Yes, it's the same actor, but it just feels like a totally different film. Maybe because the other movies were all generic, 90's action movies featuring the James Bond theme while GoldenEye actually felt like a modern Bond film. Or maybe because this movie was meant to be a Timothy Dalton film. Whatever it is, it's the one Brosnan film that worked, and still today, works. A

2. The World Is Not Enough - This may be second, yet it's far below #1. The highlights include the PTS...and that's about it. Again, like all of the other Brosnan films, it seems to lack the same memorable imagery that the Connery and Moore films were so enriched with. However, I find that if you watch this one as a sequel, or as part of a story arc that begins with "OHMSS," you'll find yourself enjoying this one that much more, with all the subtle references to that film (the title, the ski chase, "Have you ever lost someone you loved?"). C+

3. Tomorrow Never Dies - Machine guns, explosions, and not much more. When I said that the Brosnan films felt like generic action films, this is definitely the one that epitomizes that sentiment. Giving it a "C-" seems a bit generous.

4. Die Another Day - What can I say? The film that nearly killed the franchise. Thank God for "Casino Royale." The first half is pretty good, better and more Bondian than any of the previous Brosnan films, but once it hits the midway point, it gets about as cold as Iceland. Its' definitely the weirdest of Pierce's films, with the gene therapy machine, a pale henchman with diamonds embedded in his face, a death via a falling chandelier and the Ice Palace. Many of the great Bond films have always maintained an element of the strange and bizarre to them in some degree. However, nothing really salvages the rest of the movie. And what the hell was with that stupid robo-suit? The sexiness is lost on Berry and Brosnan, whose passionate advances are too overt and blatantly uncouth for the typical classiness of James Bond. I also hate the quick speed-up shots that look like they were filmed by the Wachowski brothers. D-

Are you speaking from your own point of view or how you think the film is viewed in general? DAD was the highest grossing Bond film in the U.S. at the time and one of the biggest moneymakers in the series.

It's one thing to dislike it in retrospect, but it was quite successful at the time and can hardly be accused of nearly killing the franchise.

Turn,

I imagine that will become the popular opinion as time goes on. Just as LTK is believed to have killed the franchise for six years, DAD will all of a sudden be responsible for keeping Bond off the screen for four years.

Weird how that happens eh?

Indeed. Pretty sure that Dr. No and Goldfinger are the two shortest.

I like them all, but DAD is the worst.

I like parts of each one, eg, The PTS and tank chase of GE, the Hamburg scenes in TND, the PTS of TWINE (my favourite PTS of them all), and the Cuba scenes in DAD would make for a great Bond movie.

My favorite Brosnan film is GOLDENEYE, but my favorite Brosnan performance was in THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH. My least favorite Brosnan film is TOMORROW NEVER DIES.

Had Goldeneye had a better score it would be one of my favourite Bond films of all time, but alas it has the weakest of the Brosnan scores.

Pah. :cooltongue: The score is unique. Different. One of a kind. It is dark, haunting and reflective. It sets the mood.

I respect your opinion though.

I find it strange that I've never voted in this thread... But my favourite is GOLDENEYE by some distance. I like the manner in which post-Cold War Russia is a significant influence in the movie, and the tone which that brings to the story. Whilst not Brosnan's best performance, I wouldn't say that it is overly poor either.

I love bits of each of them - love the PTS and Cuban scenes in DAD, then the boat chase of TWINE followed by the tank chase in GE and ending with the Hamburg scenes of TND.

The action set pieces of the Brosnan films were the most explosive in the series.

GoldenEye definetly, I remember seeing this in theatre's with my dad when I was 8 and it was the first Bond film I ever saw -- I was totally blown away. The film brought me into the world of Bond films, and this one will always remain my favorite. Plus Gottfried John who portrayed Ourumov ended up becoming my favorite german actor, who seemed really under appreciated in this film.

Golden Eye for me. I watch TWINE sometimes but I never really liked TND for some reason I dont know whether it was the stealth ship or just Elliot Carver. The only saving grace of DAD is Rosamund Pike!!!!!

GoldenEye takes it for me but i do like TND (until the mad shootout) and TWINE - they are good to watch.

DAD started well but boy it fell apart later and any film using CGI like that shouldnt be a Bond film.Enough said.

1. GOLDENEYE
The best Brosnan 007 film. Not even close.
Sean Bean was a great villain and could have been a great Bond.

2. THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH
Great film, good plot. Excellent PTS. Sophie Marceau was a great Bond Girl/Villain. Richards OK but a little ditzy.

3. DIE ANOTHER DAY
Not a great 007 film but a fun ride. Rosamund Pike is delicious! Great special effects but way too much CGI. A decent end for Brosnan but Craig has upstaged him in just one film.

4. TOMORROW NEVER DIES
The worst film in the entire series in my opinion. Too much Terminator-style shootout action, not enough character and plot development.

I liked Goldeneye, but I didn't really care for any of Pierce's others. Die Another Day I thought was an insult to the series.

Goldeneye for me was his best. Wow, I can't believe how many people in here hate DAD!!! I really liked that one, I am honestly surprised. His second best would be probably DAD in my opinion, followed closely by TND and bringing up the rear TWINE which I didn't like at all and consider the worst Bond movie.

The World is not Enough also gets quite a share of dislike distributed towards it on these forums.

Long live Tomorrow Never Dies! :D

I voted for TWINE- which was close over GE.

The "I never miss" line to a dead Elektra did it for me.

TWINE has been my favorite movie for a long time.
The elegant atmosphere mixed with spectacular action scenes, as well as the presence of Terry Hatcher were for many. Pierce wore the uniform of Commander RN with panache (but his hair were too long...). He seems really dangerous in this film. The attack of the terrorist market is one of the most exciting moment of the saga.
The 750 Il is my favorite car of his era. A "ship" for the Commander !
Jonathan Pryce was weakness but the plot was perfectly fixed in the era.
Dr Kauffman is a wonderful henchman ! Deadly funny !
The actors were perfect (Admiral Roebuck formidable! And Robinson ...).
Unfortunately the character of Wai-Lin wasn't properly written, and Michelle Yeoh played so impassive !
The attack of the stealth ship was ridiculous by her fault. ("Yaaah" !)

Each actor is 007 in one film of his era. Sean (for my taste) it's FRWL. Roger FYEO, Pierce it's TWINE. In GE, he seems nervous.

1.The World is not Enough
2.Tomorrow Never Dies
3.Die Another Day
4.GoldenEye

I think the only problem with GoldenEye was the fact that Brosnan was in it. I think the screenplay tailored Daltons needs more.
