Good point Marcin - it's a shame though that CGI will be used, when we know from previous villains such as our original Blofeld, Jaws, Trevelyan and even Renard that practical make-up and effects go so far to make something more real.
I hope this doesn't cheapen the look of whatever Waltz is having done, as even Silva's defects were good but obvious CGI work and I'd hate that to detract from Oberhauser when practical effects would have suited. But then it makes you think if not, I hope it's not going to be something over the top like Harvey Dent in 'The Dark Knight' or something where CGI is a MUST.
BUT again I think, maybe I'm jumping the gun and practical effects have been used for studio filming and interior locations, and this is simply to replicate those but to avoid press having a look first-hand, so CGI is a safety net to avoid us seeing the real deal?
Definitely gets you thinking.

Interestingly, CGI - if done well - is not noticeable anymore and integrated in almost every film these days. For example, listen to the audio commentaries on SKYFALL and you will be astonished what actually was made with CGI.
So, I would not worry about the Oberhauser look too much.

I just favour practicality over CG enhancement. But I know EON are trying to retain that, so it must be a very tricky and gruesome wound/scar for CGI to create without impeding Waltz's performance.

They probably experimented with a make-up scar/disfigurement on Waltz's face and it just looked very Dr Evil/Donald Pleasence.
That is a comparison they must avoid at all costs. So they have gone with a scar/disfigurement that is much more extreme that needs to be achieved via CGI.
I'm hoping that it will look particularly ugly and frightening during the climatic sequence in the night and the rain.

I don't mind CGI when it's necessary and really well done. I understand that in many cases it's inevitable. I hope SPECTRE and Waltz's wound is one of them.
I'm looking forward to seeing the final effect. And I'm very curious about the story behind all this.

It's also possible that they simply don't want to reveal it, yet. Obviously, most of his scenes were shot in the studio (or elsewhere "inside"). No problem for Waltz running around in full makeup on these sets. But now they have those tricky outdoor shots in the heart of London, with all the fans and Paparazzi just waiting to get a glimpse at Waltz in character. Best solution would be to use CGI for these scenes, and as an extra, those dots create a bit of a mystery buzz around everything.

Exactly my thoughts Stromberg...I am leaning towards this as maybe the wounds/scars will not be focused on much in the exterior shots so CGI creation will be substantial enough? Who knows.

Or... Waltz just cut himself shaving.

They invest so much money in global terrorism they forgot the mirrors in all bathrooms!

Great little filming souvenir for the SPECTRE filming:

Oh, wow. First clear version of the new SPECTRE octopus logo, I'd say.

How can you have an octopus with seven tentacles? Or are we supposed to read something into it? Such as Quantum, the eighth tentacle (?) is no more?

Well the Octopussy title graphic only had 6 tentacles, so I guess EON's thinking isn't the full (s)quid.

Not the first time an octopuss has been portrayed by the Bond team with fewer than its normal eight tentacles.
The Octopussy poster...??
EDIT: As I was typing this, I saw the icon flash up that another post had been submitted - just knew I was about to get scuppered.

Well, back in the days of FRWL it only had 4 legs.

Very good point there, Shrubs. Love that old logo. The new one isnĀ“t bad either.
And what a great souvenir. Wish I had one.

I stand corrected about the octopus, although the image on my Swatch watches - Bond villain series and I've bought most of them - has eight tentacles.
But so what? Long time fans out there like us know what the image means!

Amusing how the Daily Mail doesn't seem to realise that the stuntmen are wearing masks to resemble Craig etc, keep referring to them as lookalikes.

One last night of London helicopter filming this weekend, on Sunday evening. Not my photo, but people are circulating this letter on Twitter:

A warning, depending on how you interpret the photo, this could yield spoilers.

Bridges are often good for storytelling reasons, and have a dramatic quality, few more so than Westminster Bridge, so this could be a very effective climatic sequence from what I'm seeing... although I am concerned it's a second finale in a row that they seem to have bolstered with the addition of a helicopter. But it has potential. (Don't mean to sound overly judgemental on what little info we have, I'm just enjoying speculating ).

At least one central London hotel seems excited about the prospect of SPECTRE filming, despite thinking it's the 22nd film:
