Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere but apparently Mr White is returning? Christensen has apparently confirmed his involvement saying he is looking forward to working with Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig again, and that the script is really good and it's being made by a very capable team of people. Got a shock when I read this, I don't know how reliable it is but I thought i'd share. Very interesting news if true!
A familiar face in SPECTRE?

Yes this came up in one of the other threads. Very interesting if true.
I do want to see him killed off! :-)

If true, this is my favorite bit of news from today.
I don't particularly care what they do (be it rebranding Quantum as SPECTRE, having the two organizations go head to head, or having Bond defeat Quantum first) so long as they finally deal with what many of us had assumed would be a dropped storyline. Glad we're finally gonna get some closure on the Quantum stuff.

Agreed. Definitely the best news of the day.
I was beginning to wonder if Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace were just going to kind of be their own little one-off origin story stuck in the middle of the franchise, given that both films set up quite a bit of potential for future storylines while not really resolving anything other than Bond's emotional turmoil.

Is this really happening? Holy S***. It hasn't sunk in yet. Not only Spectre, the return of Blofeld (which is obvious because they're being so coy about it), and now the presence of Quantum. Tie-ing up loose ends from the Daniel Craig era is something that is really necessary. His films are continuity heavy, having Quantum as 'the organisation that wasn't mentioned again' would leave a bit of a sour taste.

I was jazzed to see this. Finally wrapping up Quantum's loose threads? Maybe SPECTRE takes out or over Quantum?
From the official synopsis:
"A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organisation. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE."
Could Mr. White be the source of the cryptic message?

I hope White is the source of the cryptic message. Any other source would once again be milking the theme of "this time it's personal," which has been overdone to the extreme. At least if it's White it would make sense continuity-wise and not seem like EON has to constantly resort to a personal / revenge storyline as a plot device.

Yes, I agree. Although they did let Irma Bunt get away with killing Tracy.

I'm very happy about this. Mr White is one of my favourite characters. If they show White scared of SPECTRE it would go a long way in selling how dangerous Blofeld's crew are. Because White has shown to be a very cool customer indeed during CR/QoS.

I believe you mean Irma Bunt, and I've heard that's only because Ilse Steppat died shortly after OHMSS hit theaters. Funny that they weren't willing to recast, considering there had been at least three Blofelds (four including Dawson) and three Leiters by that point. Oh well. Big missed opportunity there.

Some baseless speculation from me about how Mr White could fit in:

If true, this will be interesting to see. SMERSH (a Russian government unit) replaced with SPECTRE (a terrorism unit). How to overrun Quantum with SPECTRE will be something to chew on for the next 11 months.

I just rewatched the SPECTRE meeting in Thunderball. Electric chair for Mr. White perhaps?

Speaking to press ahead of Friday's premiere of his new film "A Family" at the Berlin film festival, Christensen said that he is happy that his "interlude as a villain in the James Bond series is over." Explaining his position, Christensen said: "Today, I admit that I regard [Casino Royale] and [Quantum of Solace] as really s***. All the people die in them, so two movies are enough for me."

I'm wondering if this thread should be moved to the spoilers section? It is easy in all of our excitement to forget that some folks want to be as spoiler free as possible..

Good idea. I was thinking just the same.
And love the electric chair suggestion.

Shouldn't it also be renamed? I think Mr. White returning in SPECTRE constitutes a spoiler. Maybe just name it an old character returns or something.

A spoiler would be a report on what the film actually does with Christiansen. Knowing that he's part of the cast? That's not a spoiler.

Ah, you beat me to it!
Imagine a briefing with SPECTRE members, Waltz's voice breaks in announcing that there is a traitor among them. He beings to put pressure on a random member at the table before pressing the button for White's chair. Stunned and heavily exhaling, the pressured member shakily continues his report.

As cool as that idea sounds, if White is going to be in SPECTRE, I'd rather he have more to do. Unless, of course, unlike in Thunderball, the scene you envision takes place at least halfway through the movie. Then I'd be fine with it.

I'm guessing the fact he wasn't involved in the photo call or press release means his role is very small, but I'd happily be mistaken.

I think they'll move on from there and film new content. Plus Craig would now look too young in that footage.

Yeah, I meant the dialogue not the actual footage.

Given the content of the scene, I doubt it would make sense here.I wonder if any of that deleted end scene from Quantum of Solace will make it into the new film?
