At least 007 Racing had a promising concept. I guess Legends did too, but you could tell it was going to be a cluster**** from the get-go.
The next Bond videogame

The Bond games need to go in a totally different direction the next time around. Firstly, a return to the third-person view would be nice. People (myself included) enjoy watching an actual character model interact with enemies and the environment. Add more spying elements to the game and multiplier. I want to play a James Bond game, not a Call of Duty watered-down rip off. I just wish the franchise could jump ahead of the shooter/action pack instead of being dragged along behind it (as it has been the last few years). We need redemption like Rocksteady gave the Batman series.
I remember a time where a Bond game set the shooter standard... The series deserves the cutting edge over the cutting room floor.

The interactive film approach of Everything Or Nothing and Bloodstone felt like steps in the right direction, just a shame neither EA or Activision then kept on that path. My issue with all the Bond games (which I do enjoy mostly) is they only cover the assassin and ruthless killer aspect of the character. The spy elements and all the style get's mostly left behind.

I'm thinking of replaying Blood Stone this upcoming weekend. The third person is truly the way to go for the future of Bond gaming, if it ever returns...

My apologies for being an utter moron!
No apologies necessary. I wish I could forget those games....Though 007 Racing is still leaps and bounds better than 007 Legends. God I hate that game. Have I mentioned that before? I feel like I have once or twice....a thousand times.
I've tried to get through the first mission on '007 Legends' after having purchased it for $20 less than a month after it was released (which should have been a big enough clue regarding its quality) and I was excited to be able to play through a few classic Bond films (and DAD... I guess...) with OHMSS being the most exciting prospect. I booted it up a handful of times on my old PC and have since re-downloaded it via Steam on to my recently custom-built ultra-high-powered PC so it looks about as good as it possibly can and I have yet to complete the first 'Goldfinger' mission... not due to difficulty but due to sheer lack of interest.
I'm sure there will be a few "interesting-ish" moments once I eventually get into the game a bit, but I cannot get myself pumped up for a COD clone with a few cheap, optional stealth sections thrown into it... especially since I've seen that very same thing done so many times before.
My hope is that there will either be a "Bond 24"-based game that takes a completely different direction from the previous film-based games or, if possible, a quasi-sequel to 'Bloodstone' or maybe a game that deals with the fate of Quantum since they were completely ignored in 'Skyfall' (probably for the better)... but maybe "Bond 24" will show us what's happened to them.

I too hope for a 3rd person adventure.
My hope is for an original adventure. Take time and bring it out at their own pace. I think Bloodstone's biggest weakness was the lack of promotion. I remember seeing it on the shelf one day and couldn't believe my eyes and bought it right away. And I lurked this and other Bond sites and never saw much about the game.
Can't say I'm surprised that it didn't do very well, considering it didn't have any hype behind it. I digress, let's hope for a great Bond game that will knock our socks off.

I agree with the above.
The franchise has gone to the dogs, plain and simple. I'd rather no games at all if 007 Legends is the business model.

Sadly, 007 Legends probably will be the business model. I don't see any development company putting serious time or money into a Bond game in the way that companies like Rockstar do with Grand Theft Auto or any of the other companies do with their flagship games. Until someone does that, we'll be stuck with a Bond game that's a clone of whatever is popular at the time. Right now it's Call of Duty, and we'll probably see more games built on that model with the occasional lousy third person game here or there to make it look like they've given us some kind of variation on the formula.

Once more, I agree. People can say what they want about Nightfire, Agent Under Fire, etc - but they at least had a certain Bond charm. The COD mechanic is completely devoid of that. It's run of the mill, boring and soulless. The definition of a lazy cash grab.

Funny you mention Rockstar... I just began a replay of Red Dead Redemption and said to myself "A Bond game using this game's engine and attention to detail would be fantastic."

This is my first post here since, oh, shortly before Casino Royale came out - hey everyone!
Alright, back to business. I feel like Ubisoft being given the license is potentially the best step for Bond - while it's unfair of us to expect the quality of the better Splinter Cell or FarCry games, I think something like that wouldn't be out of the question. If it has to be first-person I wouldn't complain, but I'd like something with a bit more...range, you know? Vehicles, sneaking, and the biggest thing I want to avoid would be making it overly scripted like the Call of Duty games (and, to a degree, Quantum of Solace - which I didn't think was all bad, really).
If EA gets it, I imagine that's what we're looking at - they'd hand it off to Sledgehammer or Visceral, and we'd get another super-linear setpiece game like Call of Duty. Sadly, since they only have a year or so to work on it, I don't think we can be surprised if this turns out to be the case,

Damn, that was shortly, AND I MEAN SHORTLY, after I started college. Thanks for making me feel old. Either way, welcome back! (and where have you been? haha)
Sledgehammer wouldn't get it if EA regains the license as they are fully owned by Activision. I really would prefer a studio like Rocksteady or Naughty Dog that would be the time in that is really necessary for game to thrive. Rocksteady would absolutely own the open world, which could be great for a Bond adventure, though I still don't think it quite fits with Bond's world. I would love to see what Naughty Dog would do with Bond. Based on what they've done with both the Uncharted series and with The Last of Us, I think they'd be perfect for both the story and the gameplay. Both series have told incredible stories (especially for video games) and Naughty Dog knows action (but more importantly for Bond, setpieces). I think they could make an exceptional Bond game.

Near enough most franchises have decent games, so why the hell can't they get James Bond right?
They still produce the games like we are fuelled by the brainless shoot 'em up era that compensated the late 90s Brosnan era, not the 00s.

You see, after playing The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and, most notably The Wolf Among Us, Telltale have an incredible way of successfully merging 'point and click' tropes with cinematic content. They'd have my vote. I bet they'd make a cracking Harry Potter series as well.

A click game would be the absolute wrong direction for the Bond franchise to go. The next game needs to be something similar to Blood Stone except it actually needs to be good.

I agree. A Silva "just point and click" game doesn't excite me.
Blood Stone is the template I prefer, but the execution was just too basic.

Agreed. Far, far too basic.
The games are never going to get better until a studio treats the franchise like a flagship, or near flagship, franchise. We know the Bond games will sell if they're good (see GoldenEye 007 all those years ago), so it's just a matter of some studio deciding to actually put the work in on the game rather than spewing out another movie cash-in.
