I also knew the expression, but probably only mentioned in the context of American gangster movies. Not sure I'd realised before that it was a purely American idiom.Umm, I'm British and know what it means.

My expectations were sky high, always unfair because how can something turn up as good as one imagines it to be.
Well...
SKYFALL is even better than my wildest dreams about it.
Complete review will follow shorty.

I decided to split my review and release only the first part which is completely spoiler-free and now on the main page.

That was a great read, thanks!
So it's also 'a first rate psychological thriller.'? Now that does sound good!

Absolutely! Welcome to CBn.'evening all. I've been a looker for quite a while, but as I just came back from a press screening of "Skyfall" I figured I would share my non-spoiler review on here as well, if people are still interrested the night before?

Here we go, tried to make it as spoiler-free as possible. Please forgive me for a slight slip of the tongue(finger), as English isn't my primary language.

Good Lord! All this Bond being gay/bisexual talk is utter nonsense. Fleming must be turning in his grave. Bond is 700% straight.
Which puts him north of "Chuck Norris" but well south of " Black Dynamite" and any character played by Jim Brown. LOL

Bardem may be the best villain in the 50 years. utterly brilliant. Lots cut from what we know was filmed, but every choice was for the good of a fantastic film.

I hope you can do a review soonJust home - SKYFALL is so good. I would never have thought that the climax of Goldfinger could be toped in a Bond film. Skyfall does it.

All the airport-like-security stuff at Malory’s building, including the funny dialog.
M in the waiting room talking about obituary with Tanner
Funeral in Greenwich is all gone, other than the coffins bit in the crypt
Jogging in park
The airport in Shanghai
Don’t think it was filmed – but there is do chase on the island or fight with Silva there, no fall through skylight and rats.
There is not a lot of action in Skyfall, the Tube sequence is played for suspense, not so much as a Bond style big chase.
Any other questions I’ll be happy to answer. I ‘ll write a proper review once I’ve seen it again later today, which I’ll post tomorrow.

Great stuff. I really am pleased to hear it.Yes, the cuts all work for the film's greater good, but I'll look forward to seeing them on the DVD/Blu-ray.
