To those who have already seen it, would you consider this the best Bond film to date?

I'd say it's in with a shot. I'm loathe to jump in immediately and stick it at the top, as that strikes me slightly like a natural reaction to a film I've enjoyed, but I'd be amazed if it ends up outside my top five, or even my top three.

This is really nice to hear Vaux. Tell me, when can one expect your review?

I've just scrapped mine having read thecasinoroyale's great review, but I'm going to have it done before I go to bed. Quick shower and then back to it!

Cool. I´ll be waiting dear chap. Seems everyone who´s opinion I respect really enjoyed the film. I´ve got the tickets for tomorrow night, so I´m chewing my nails off here.

That's decent of you to say :) I'm working hard. Even if my review doesn't meet expectations, I hope the film does!

I'm not sure when my review will be up, I'll work on it before work, but starting at 11 I'm not sure it'll be ready. Night everyone, been great sharing this experience with CBn members, of whom I consider friends.

OK
So I've not read a single review
So I've not read a single on line blog / forum / post / b######s for months
I've avoided any newspaper article
I've been a f###### monk...
for months...

I still haven't read a bean, other than reviews in the Standard and the Independent (much the same).
I just got in from the 1700 show at Odeon Leicester Sq London - plus a meal at Cappuccetto's - and well...................................

interesting.

When I've seen it a second time, I'll give some feedback.
First reaction:
it's very good movie, but is it a Bond movie...........?

For my further reaction, well, I probably need to watch it agian.

Overall initial reaction, it's a good movie.

What was that study that said spoilers enhanced the viewers experience? ;)

LOL
This was a tough one. It's quite unexpected in a way. Many aspects of the movie are excellent - I particularly liked the reconstituted MI6, which looked rather like the rough-and-ready SIS of 'Tinker Tailor' last year.
I disliked the climax -WTF? Enuff said right now, I don't want to spoil it.
Music was good.

"Hardly the big picture, wouldn´t you say? The man isn´t even a true believer." ;)

Seems to contradict every single aspect people seem to be loving about the film. Self centered idiots some of these reviewers are. Funny thing is, it´s quite noticeable when one´s exempt and when one´s not.

Thanks for the link @SKYFALL, I wonder what Mr. Knowles thinks of the flick?

What I find suspect about that review is that the reviewer directly engages with the opinions of other reviewers. It's like he sets out to tell them that they are wrong. Just based on the tone of the review, it doesn't seem like the critic went into the theatre with an open mind. It's like he held the film to the hyperbole of others' opinions rather than trying to keep an open mind. To me, that is the hallmark of poor criticism. I won't be surprised if we start seeing a lot more negative or mixed reviews now. This is when the professional contrarians come out.

Amongst the cut stuff, this is off the top of my head...
All the airport-like-security stuff at Malory’s building, including the funny dialog.
M in the waiting room talking about obituary with Tanner
Funeral in Greenwich is all gone, other than the coffins bit in the crypt
Jogging in park
The airport in Shanghai
Don’t think it was filmed – but there is do chase on the island or fight with Silva there, no fall through skylight and rats.

I was trying to remember what else had been cut, but could only remember the Funeral, Jogging and Shanghai.

Thanks for that. I must admit to having looked forward to seeing the Jogging and Shanghai, and this sort of thing relates to what my experiences of seeing a Bond movie for the first time are all about - something I mentioned in the World Premiere thread. That of there being too much baggage being taken into the film to just allow the unspoilt first time viewing pleasure that you can get from seeing a film that you haven't tracked daily for two years.

The price you pay...

It will be up again. 3 of the negatives were absolutely no names, who might just have wanted to make a name for themselves. So IMO, serious papers will follow the positive, which will go on being the trend. I think, it will end up 95% to 96%

I don't understand some reviewers. One of his first gripes is about continuity re Judi Dench being M before and after the reboot. So a little artistic licence and one of Britain's finest actors should be ditched just to settle his mind re the linear plausibility of the whole series.

Worrying about continuity between Bond films is like being concerned about thematic richness in pørnography.

You mean to tell me that Naomie Harris went from Eve the field agent to Miss Moneypenny the secretary? I'm so disgusted that I don't have any other words to describe how I feel.

With Naomie acting so well as a field agent who clearly enjoyed her work out there but stuggled with what it entails, and even struggling to work under someone so tough as Judi Dench's M, Eve had the potential to be a great field operative but never would be unfortunately.

Straight away I found it clear that she was someone who thought she wanted to be a field agent but took the chance to stay safer on home ground, helping out behind the scenes so to speak which she seems quite capable of doing so well with the right people, like Ralph Fiennes' Mallory.

I can accept that she has made the leap from field agent to secretary / P.A to the most powerful person in MI6, let's not forget not just anyone.

Also, I think Eve´s arc is a wonderful counter-arc to Bond´s (and Silva´s).

I think my feelings about Naomie Harris in "SKYFALL" are pretty obvious, considering some of my past comments on this board.

Thanks- good to see a less show-offy review from them now.

I like his point about Dench playing Smiley- I can actually see that! :)
