I liked it a lot, but it got mixed reviews and a lot of people were disappointed. But I thought Jeremy Renner did a great job and the storyline is such that it runs concurrently with the events that take place in The Bourne Ultimatum.  I'd recommend you give it a try.

Shane Black to write/direct Predator reboot

Ugh. This is annoying. We don't NEED a 'Predator' reboot! The Rodriguez sequel was good enough and it was accepted, and fine.

 

Audiences won't take to a new Predator franchise, it's not as beloved as it once was especially if you try to recreate the iconic Schwarzenegger original. It's just a recipe for disaster!

 

 

But nice to see SOME action heroes don't need to reboot to carry on...

I think a new Predator film could be worthwhile.  A lot of that will be dependent upon how much of a reboot it actually is.  If it ends up being a remake of the Schwarzenegger film, then there wouldn't be much point in that, but if it ends up being just a standalone Predator film or it somehow ties itself to the other three films, then it could be worthwhile.

I can imagine Shane Black doing a great job.  I like his work.  And I don´t think he needs the job - he wanted it.  So, this might turn out pretty good - and not a weak, modernized carbon copy.

it was an alirght film, but storywise in The Bourne films it seems the only objective of the U.S. government is apparently chasing down and murdering it's own agents. after a while it's just....silly.

Under The Skin - 5/5 - Directed by Jonathan Glazer - Starring Scarlett Johansson

I absolutely loved this film from start to finish. This has to be the best film I have seen all year, and it may most likely still hold that distinction for me. Jonathan Glazer's Under The Skin is flawless.

 

It's a rather beautiful, yet haunting film about an alien who is impersonating a young attractive woman, whose mission is to seduce men, to then have their skin harvested. It's very straightforward and is presented straightforward, but is handled so damn well. It's a different type of science fiction/extraterrestrial film. This woman, or rather Alien has one mission, which is to seduce men for their skin, but along the way through her journey, she goes from being this emotionless thing, to Starting to understand the way humans are slowly sympathize with. Under The Skin is just absolutely fascinating and again, beautiful.

 

This film has so many great things going. The cinematography by Daniel Landin is just so jaw dropping. Landin makes the locale of Scotland beautiful and also showcases how foreign, mysterious, and strange it is to our Alien. It's been a while since I've seen a film look so damn good, and here it looks outstanding. The music score makes the film have this sort of eerie vibe, and at times, almost horror esque. It's is filled with emotions, both high and low, and when it is used, it isn't overpowering, it is just enough to help enhance the scene and the overall film period. One of the strangest sounding scores I've heard, but that's what makes it so damn great.

 

There is very little dialogue, in fact a lot of it is just mainly a few dialogue exchanges between the Alien and the men she is seducing. It doesn't make it a bad film or boring or even tedious, as for me, the visual landscape that was painted by Glazer and Landin tell the story perfectly, and you can tell what's going on. Lots of lovely imagery going on in this film which I greatly appreciated. Scarlett Johansson was so excellent in this. When she isn't speaking to others, she's talking with the way her body moves, the looks and expressions her face give off, and the looks her eyes give, it makes it interesting, or at least for me. Also worth noting that I thought she looked so stunning be it when she was clothed, nude, or in lingerie.

 

For the most part, Under The Skin may be divisive between some, maybe not as divisive as 2013 films like Only God Forgives, Man Of Steel, and The Counselor, but It's easy to see why one might not enjoy this as much as other have, and that's okay. This is a film that honestly requires your absolutely undivided attention from start to finish, and once you pay close attention, you won't care about what goes on outside of viewing this film. You will, in the end, either love it, or not, entirely up to you and your viewing.

 

Under The Skin is just simply flawless for me in every single aspect. It definitely became one of my favorite new films and I would definitely put this in my Top 50, All Time. Safe to say, This film made me re-appreciate cinema and brought me back (even if it's part time).

 

Deliver Us From Evil - 4/5 - Directed by Scott Derrickson - Starring Eric Bana and Edgar Ramirez

Horror films today simply suck. There's no sugar coating it. Either it's a gore/torture fest which bores the F*** out of you, some dude walking around with his GoPro capturing S*** on camera, or whatever the hell the studio comes up with. Not too many films still rely on tension and atmosphere. While it took a second viewing to finally appreciate Derrickson's Sinister, his latest film, Deliver Us From Evil is one of the better horror films in recent time.

 

The demonic possession/exorcism genre is really tiring, to the point where it's now you see one, you've seen 'em all, but with this film, it feels different. It's got a few cliche's and some jump scares which you may or may not see coming, but it has one hell of a moody atmosphere which frankly, scared the hell out of me more. Couple that with the usage of songs by The Doors, which made it a little unsettling at times, Deliver Us From Evil is not your standard exorcism film. Though it has everything to be one, it changes things up and locks you in for a hell of a ride.

 

Primarily taking place at night, in the grimy streets of The Bronx, New York, you always have this feeling of an impending doom and that something evil is nigh. Sgt Ralph Sarchie (Eric Bana) is an NYPD cop who teams up with a renegade Priest, Mendoza (Edgar Ramirez) to stop a demon who has found his way into our world, from turning more people into demons like himself. It's a great, creepy ride, the culminates in one of the coolest, yet creepiest exorcism scenes in a very long time. Excellent performances and nice chemistry between Bana's Sarchie and Ramirez's Mendoza, as well as subtle humor from Joel McHale.

 

Much like Derrickson's Sinister the film here has a score that is downright bone chilling. Deliver Us From Evil is brilliantly scored by Christopher Young, and the score feels tongue in cheek with Sinister. Well shot and edited, Scott Derrickson really knows how to make a horror film, and damn good one too.

 

Despite the bad reviews this film has garnered, it really isn't subject to them, as this film I found to be refreshing and delightfully scary too. It is one of the better horror films.

Edge Of Tomorrow - 4.5/5 - Directed by Doug Liman - Starring Tom Cruise

Edge Of Tomorrow is set in a time where an alien race known as Mimics begin to take over Europe and a United States Public Relations officer, Major William Cage is put head on in the front lines of a battle, but he is killed in the process. He wakes up and realizes that it is the prior day, but still has the memory and knowledge of the next subsequent day(s). The process repeats until he meets the "Full Metal Bitch", Sgt. Rita Vrataski who tells him that he possesses a power he got from alien blood, which allows him to reset the day. Rita no longer has the power after a she underwent a blood transfusion, but she promises to help train Cage in combat and find a way to stop an impending slaughter on UDF troops and end the war once and for all.

 

Edge Of Tomorrow aside from a pretty generic title, is actually one of the best science fiction/action films to come along and Cruise's best film in recent time. The idea of being able to reset, as it's called in the film, is a brilliant key that sets it apart from other films during this summer blockbuster as well as recent sci-fi films. The film plays out more like a video game: you go into battle, you die, you reset and you repeat the process until you grow stronger and knowledgeable on your enemy.

 

The action pieces are breathtaking and loads of fun. It's gritty, despite being PG-13 and having little, if any, blood, but the true nature of War is present. It isn't pretty, and sure as hell isn't in a war against aliens. The first action scene with a rather inexperienced Cruise is fantastic, and the get better and become different as he continues to reset. It was also nice to see action scenes shot and edited so well and not relying on frantic cuts and that damn shaky cam that so many filmmakers heavily rely on because it looks "realistic". Surely this is a fictional film, but the action scenes alone in this look pretty damn good and can come off as real if you are greatly immersed in this film.

 

Cruise is great as Major William Cage. He plays the character very well and is incredibly believable in his scenes where he is truly scared shitless in War. For me though, Emily Blunt who plays, Rita Vrataski was excellent. A different type of film for the actress as I'm accustomed to seeing her in romance or comedy films, so seeing her in a film like this was great, and she can pull off a tough, strong willed female bad ass convincingly. Would definitely love to see her do more action films in the future.

 

Doug Liman's Edge Of Tomorrow is an exhilarating film and a great summer blockbuster. It's loads of fun, boasts a compelling story, interesting lead characters, immersed action scenes, and overall great experience. A great treat this season.

 

Non-Stop - 3/5 - Directed by Jaume Collet-Sera - Starring Liam Neeson

I had interest in wanting to see this, but I completely forgot about it until recently. Liam Neeson is subject to a career resurgence, he's always been a damn good actor in films like Rob Roy and Schindler's List, and others, but in the early 2000's It's as if he somewhat faded away. He came back wit Pierre Morell's Taken and became kick ass action hero, despite showing age. Since Taken he's made a few, maybe too many stinkers, but Non-Stop is probably one the better ones, until the horrible ending sinks in.

 

Liam Neeson plays Bill Marks, an alcoholic Federal Air Marshal, who is on a plane to London. While on the flight, he is contacted by an anonymous person who wants $150Million, otherwise they'll kill a person on board the plane every twenty minutes. Marks then sets out to find the person responsible, with panic spreading across the plane, it seems as if there's a bigger picture to be painted.

 

The trailer for the most part marketed this as a sort of action film on board a plane, which is completely wrong, as the only action scene occurs at the very end of the film. This is a mystery film on board a plane, a thriller if you must, and for the duration, It's paced pretty decently, and had me guessing along the way. I wouldn't go as far to call it a a great film, but at least one of the better thriller films of a similar nature.

 

What went wrong? The goddamn ending. It went from being about a terrorist on board the plane who is picking people off every twenty minutes, with Neeson's character being set up by the terrorist to take the fall, to being a ridiculous behind the reason. I don't want to share spoilers, but if you've seen the film, you might be to know what I'm talking about. The reasoning behind it was just laughable, whether you believe in it or not. I won't lie either, I did face palm. Oh and the action scene had to have been written in and directed by Michael Bay, it was just so effects ridden and "Bulls***"-esque. There's suspense throughout the film (obviously) and does a fairly decent job of having heightened tension as well. In the end, it all heads south into B-Movie land and it fades away for the most part. Everything leading up until the ending was not half bad, it's just the ending that's complete trash.

 

I don't hate this film, but I don't particularly like it as if it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Non-Stop is probably the most watchable Neeson action/thriller film since The Grey, which I believe is still his strongest since his career resurgence. It least it didn't suck as much as Taken 2 did.

MI5 starts shooting in August, so they really did wait until the last minute to get some of this casting announced. Evidently it'll shoot partially in Vienna which is pretty neat. I'm looking forward to it, especially following Brad Bird's massively entertaining Ghost Protocol.

I like the Baldwin casting.  I don't know the other one, but I'm kind of disappointed that it probably means that Paula Patton won't be returning.  The only good thing about Ghost Protocol was the team.  I was really hoping that they would be returning.

I think there was more to like about Ghost Protocol than just the team. But I agree it was the best they had done in the films from the team perspective.

Ghost Protocol was the least Mission: Impossible film possible. Was almost akin to something Michael Bay would do. That being said, I look forward to what Christopher McQuarie will do with the franchise.

IMO, this last M:I-film was the most enjoyable since the first one.  And very far removed from Bay´s style.

Story wasn't really all there (at least for me), Sure there was some cool action scenes, aided by amounts CGI, a third rate villain, thin characters (Patton and Renner). It just seemed to be more like a new location, and new big action sequence to showcase. I am in no way saying it is a bad film, I give it a 3/5, but It's one of the more least enjoyable films in the franchise and action films, but It just feels like any other action blockbuster, nothing really spectacular or different that sets it apart.

 

And when I mention Bay's style, I'm more talking about his films per se. The fact they have action scenes aided by CGI to entertain the average movie goer, throwaway characters, cool moments. Not his actual style, though I feel we are talking more about the former
