I'm quite certain he does say "...lost a stone" - stone, of course, being slang for testicle

Or stone, the British unit of weight.

Well we never did find out exactly what damage had been done by Le Chiffre!

A couple more things - first, is that a gun with a silencer being fired by Silva, or an old fashioned pistol from centuries ago? To my myopic eye it looks like the latter.

And secondly - Bond's reply to the new Q - "You must be joking!" Now where have we heard that one before? ;-)

Now why would we get a Spoiler alert in this dedicated non-spoiler thread, I wonder?...

It's not a major spoiler but some people may not want confirmation (even though it's pretty obvious in the trailer).

Anyone notice the letterhead of Bond's obit? SIS instead of MI6. Is this the first time it has been referred to as such, other than the use of the SIS/MI6 building?

I think that 'officially' to all those talking or referencing it as a legal, official document, it is known as the S.I.S (Secret Intelligence Service) and the MI6 name comes in as the nickname for the sixth Military Intelligence division formed and has stuck to be far catchier and easy to identify.

Must be very official coming from M!

True.
Yet, in Casino Royale, M's computer has this screen (does say "military intelligence"):

Why, Die Another Day of course!

This trailer looks phenomenal. The overall look of the film is brilliant. I love the cinematography. I could talk about all the things I liked about it but we'd be here all day. In any event, I think we have a winner on our hands.

If you saw it in IMAX and it wasn't shown, that's a crime.

Actually I was thinking "Goldfinger" and DAD, but never mind. Up until now Bond's incredulity had to do with the gadgets rather than the gadget-meister!

That said, I'm warming to the new Q. Liked the line about the new gun (Well, the gun's new, the palm recognition system pre dates Craig's predecessor, but again, never mind!)

"Not so much a random shot, more a personal statement"

Also, anyone noticed what looks like a fallen statue in the court-yard scene? A reference back to GoldenEye?

I'm pleased they have the obvious reference, though, - hidden in plain sight, one might say - the Aston Martin DB5!

I definitely like the International trailer over the one designated for my country. No "Bond, James Bond" in the U.S version. But, ultimately they're pretty much the same.

Anyway, I'm totally blown away. It looks like Daniel Craig's modern, realistic take on Bond, but seems to ooze vintage (specifically Connery) Bond.

Ben Whishaw's Q and the way he is introduced to 007 (and reintroduced to audiences) is beyond exciting as a long-time fan. I wasn't sure how a young Q would work, but I really like what I've seen. The Aston Martin, the train jump, the talented cast, the whole look of it......all very exciting.

Also really loving the score. Glad they went with someone new.

The question is, is this score Newman's, and actually part of the films score, or was it written especially for the trailers, as is often the case these days?

I was just kidding. I figured the obvious answer was Goldfinger so I went with the more unpopular one.

I prefer the editing in the Domestic trailer, seems to flow better, better music too. I'll take that over the line any day.

I don't think there's any question of it being Newman: it's rubbishy trailer trailer music, not something he's done.
I hate the music on that trailer: it's tinny and nasty. The only bad point to it.

Well, there's nothing wrong with recycling a classic line. As for the gun fired by Silva, it must be an old fashioned pistol. If that's a silencer attached, it's the loudest one I've ever heard! ;-)

(And if our new villain is into guns - another reference back? This film seems to have the end of the novel YOLT and TMWTGG the book as a centre of gravity, with a lot of other subtle nods in the direction of the past as well.)

Definitely enjoying both versions of the trailer, first thing I did was download and convert it for my iPhone and iPad so I can watch it whenever I want for the next 2 months. :)

I know the PPK/S is supposed to be custom fit for Bond's grip, ala LTK, but I really like the look of that grip. Anyone recognize the manufacturer?

I vastly prefer the Domestic trailer as well. I didn't know that there were two trailers when I first went online yesterday and, on my second viewing of what I thought was the Domestic trailer, I happened to click on the International one and at first thought it was a fan edit of the various trailers we've seen thus far.

Someone should make a composit of the two. With the best of both, such as the line and the end music. Where´s Thomas Waldek when one needs him? ;)

Agreed.

I was glad to have stumbled across the international trailer. That ridiculously creepy grin that Bardem gives Craig around the middle of the trailer is curiously absent from the domestic version.

So is the blood on his right shoulder. Sensitive folks in the US, no blood nor creepy grins. Just kidding of course, although this editorial/censorship business always gets on my nerves,

Still about the trailers, I bet Waldek would do a phenomenal job combining the teaser with the IMAX and the 2 new trailers. Would be epic as only he can devise.

No mention of 'The Empire' either. Do they feel that some Americans would be turned off by this?

I can kind of understand them not including that, as there might be some in the American audience that wouldn't know what it means. It sounds like, from the way that dialogue plays out in the trailer, that Bardem recites several words that are similar in that regard (England, the Empire, MI6, etc.), so I can see eliminating "Empire" from the American trailer mainly as a way to keep the flow of the trailer going, but also because some might not understand it. Plus, having the two different lines of dialogue there helps to make the trailers different, which is the point of releasing two trailers.

I just wish they had kept that grin that Bardem gives Craig. It's the first time I think I've ever been creeped out by a Bond villain.

The spoilers which came out after the first one are very exciting -- compelling. However, I am shocked --no kidding or anything here, I do mean SHOCKED -- by the losing-the-list-of-agents bit. Hello ? Mission Impossible (first film), anyone ? I gather that it's just a MacGuffin, something to move the story along, but still -- come on, not just a borrow, but a borrow from another spy film, and a rather recent one ? what the hey ???

At face value, it's similar - the NOC list. Of course in Mission: Impossible it was just about people trying to get the list - it never fell into bad hands in the end, and was just a MacGuffin to drive the plot along. Looks like it DOES get out in this movie and there is a bad aftermath.
I think this is more 'ripped from the headlines' more than anything. British intelligence officers have lost laptops, blackberries, etc several times in past years, and it's been rather embarrassing for them... I think this storyline is inspired by the real deal. Check it:

https://www.google.c...i6 loses laptop

I see it as more of a reference to security failures than anything to do with M:I.
