Does it end where it all began?

Is there is a clue on Dennis Gassner’s production design wall?
To his left (our right) there are 5 images in the bottom row. The first, nearest him, is clearly the inside of the chapel (scene 171). Next, there is a photograph that could well be the view from the Whitehall rooftop (scene 172). But there are 3 images after this (and the wall layout does seem to be in the order of the film)
Next, there seems to be a floor plan that shows two rooms, the one adjacent to the other.
Last, there are two photos or drawings, one above the other. It’s not very clear - but could they be of the traditional (pre-90s) M’s office?
It could be quite a way to end the 50th anniversary film, with Craig as Bond standing in M’s office from the beginning of Dr No.

Good eyes for spotting that, and a nice idea!

I suppose it would make sense to go back to the old office once the threat to MI6 has passed. And maybe even introduce a new Miss Moneypenny at the same time?
I’m thinking a new M and possibly Moneypenny too.
There are gaps on that character list and it was foxy enough to call Q ‘B’.
The Vauxhall Cross building could have been written-off completely and the underground bunker is probably only a temporary HQ. The scene before this hypothesis, does take place on a Whitehall roof that could well be that of the old style M’s office.

Yeah, true. There's a character in that list called, I think, Vanessa (M's Assistant). That could be another B-style pseudonym.
I'm still not 100% convinced that they'll kill Dench's M off, though.

I'm not sure if I am yet either, it is believable though..

That would be pretty cool for sure. I've never been a big fan of the over-modernistic offices of the later films (everything from GE onwards I think). There's something very Bondian about that old office, with the double leather doors, etc.
I second that. It's getting TOO modern and futuristic now with all the technology seen in 'Quantum Of Solace', all those touch-screen swipey monitors and almost utopian white/glass/computer walls.
Bring back some earthy colour to the office...it's MI6 for gods sake, not the Death Star!

I would have bet money that the Whitehall rooftop is the end of Skyfall, but perhaps not...

Holy crap. That totally looks, exactly, like M's old office. The familiar, leather soundproof door seems pretty visible - unless my brain is just looking for the patterns and imagining the similarity.

Bloody hell, same here. Thumbs up if they do that.

Also, that floor plan really looks like the old office. I´m now wishing it to be true, although I was quite disapointed to hear that Bond´s flat won´t be in the film, so I´m prepared to be disapointed now with the old M´s office not showing up.

Harms never left.

I´ve heard that what we assumed was Bond´s flat, is really M´s flat. Heard it from the people who read some "pages". They got the intire film timeline in order. That being said, I´d love it if they were wrong. Been wishing to see Bond´s flat for a long time.

It would totally fit with Mendes' comments about SKYFALL making a kind of "loop" with DR. NO.
Thanks Harms! I thought I’d imagined that, I talked to Vauxhall about this yesterday, but didn’t put anything here because I just wasn’t certain.
Plus, isn't there at second 56 in the blog a sample of old M's door in the background ?
Very well spotted – Thank you so much too. That certainly looks very much like a bit of the traditional, leather upholstered door to M’s office.

I've found the DR NO reference; it's from the feature in French magazine Studio Ciné Live, and the translated summary refers to Mendes wanting "to explore the roots of MI6, as to make a loop with DR NO."
Very interesting - thanks!
What do you make of that?

I feel some of it may have been slightly lost in translation, but the basic sentiment is probably correct. In which case, I think it could be referring in quite broad terms to the introduction of a new M, Q and Moneypenny.

Yes, and from what I know of the order of the scenes, a new M could only figure after scene 172.
Which also supports the above, I think.

Agreed. Perhaps a surprise bit of casting will emerge, although I'd be very impressed if they kept a new M under wraps until October.Yes, and from what I know of the order of the scenes, a new M could only figure after scene 172.

I feel certain that Dench-M dies, and think Fiennes- M is misdirection. So that only gives us a surprise casting.

Off the top of my head, the one Mallory I remember from the films is Captain Mallory, played by Gregory Peck, in The Guns of Navarone. Would you care to enlighten me about the ones related to British heroism RD? Thanks in advance. It's interesting that they called him Mallory, though. Since it's a name that's usually associated with British heroism.
