Looks like Gangster Squad aint doing so hot with Critics and at the Box office.

Saw Zero Dark Thirty Again, loved it even more the second time. Found some new love Jessica Chastain's role as well.

Yeah critics aren't rating it very highly.. but I thought it was okay. I wonder what it ended up making. My theater it was pretty packed.

Third place spot with $16M, behind 'A Haunted House' and 'Zero Dark Thirty'.

$16M opening. Total budget was $75M. I doubt it'll make back the budget and then some.

I think the Aurora incident and the delay killed the momentum it had. Unrelated, how the hell did A Haunted House end up second?

'Gangster Squad' for me tomorrow - hope it's better than critics are saying. Dissapointing to hear a potential great gangster film is failing. Almost getting as stale as the Western genre which is a shame.

The last TRUE great gangster film I saw was Michael Mann's 'Public Enemies' back in 2009. It was my favorite film that year, and Is in my top 3 for all time gangster film favorites.

I've only seen that once back in 2009, may have to revisit it as it was enjoyable.

Of course, I have 'The Untouchables' in high favours as a great gangster film - solid cast, memorable action sequences and lots of good settings.

'The Untouchables' Still doesn't come anywhere close to my other two ahead of 'Public Enemies', which are 'The Godfather' and 'The Godfather Part II'

Never seen 'The Godfather' or sequels - to the point I've not got the urge too hearing so much about them for years.

The first two are great, don't bother with the third. Still waiting for Martin Scorsese's next gangster film 'The Irishman' which was supposed to come out this year, but I suppose 2014 will be its release. Also looking forward to the crime-comedy film 'Stand Up Guys' with Al Pacino, Christopher Walken, and Alan Arkin.

^ Yeah I agree with all of that. Personally I think Gangster Squad is better than what the critics are saying, but that's my personal opinion.

Haven't heard anything about The Irishman, but if it's a gangster film from Scorcese, I'll definitely be interested in it.  I also hadn't heard anything regarding Stand Up Guys (I really need to do a better job of following what's going on nowadays ;) ), but with a cast like that it should be worthwhile.

I've come across a few more films to add to the list for 2013:

MOST ANTICIPATED:

  • Malavita
  • Zero Dark Thirty
  • I, Frankenstein
  • Carrie
  • CBGB
  • Oblivion

ALSO LOOKING FORWARD TO:

  • Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters
  • Warm Bodies
  • The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia
  • Trance
  • Iron Man 3
  • Fast and Furious 6
  • Now You See Me
  • The Conjuring
  • Runner Runner
  • The Tomb
  • Thor: The Dark World
  • Big Sur
  • Kick-Ass 2
  • The Last Stand
  • Girls Against Boys

I know it's a gangster/crime film about an Irish hitman who worked for the mafia, or at least something like that. It's supposed to star Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci. I believe Scorsese is also trying to get Harvey Keitel for it as well. Stand Up Guys looks great, so I cannot wait for that one.

The Last Stand - 5/5

This was a movie that judging by the trailers looked pretty rediculous to me. I was wrong. I was certainly beyond happy with the finished result. Fantastic Old School Action Movie for today's time. Perfect balance of Action and the comedy in the later scenes of the film. Arnold's still got it. Overall a complete fun and entertaining time.

The King is back, All hail the King!

Glad you enjoyed it Ace! Very dissapointed to see it's not taken off well in the US.

Was this the wrong sort of film for Arnie to return in? I read in some reviews that is tries too hard to make Arnie appear weary, out-of-touch and a little rusty, but there is no need to and should give him a bit more to get his teeth into rather than act like he's coming out of retirement, literally!

I hope it does well enough, but I think it's the film itself that's not appealing more than Arnie. (I hope, anyway!)

This is out in the UK this Friday so I can't wait to go see him back in action! :)

I don't think so at all, It was a perfect film for him. An older man playing an older character who's getting a beating and throwing a beating as well. I think (in my opinion) It was the way the film was marketed. Though the film looked cheesy and ridiculous, it really wasn't, it was a great film made for pure enjoyment for action fans. So the marketing made it look that way. I think the release date was fine, if it was in the summer It might have a better chance, but with the summer Blockbusters, who knows.

Arnold is big in foreign markets, so I figure it'll make the bulk of its money there.

Hope so as I'd hate for him to have a dissapointing gross for his return. I admit the marketing is pretty quiet here in the UK apart from some trailers in the cinemas, and the film does look like it's almost a buddy pairing and quite watered down, so I'll be very happy to be surprised from what you say. I've missed Arnie on the big screen!

I thought the same thing with the casting of Johnny Knoxville, but it is in no way a buddy pairing and is in no way watered down. It's violent, bloody, fast paced, and fun. Something most action films today lack and I really enjoyed it, because it was an old-school action film for today's time. First leading role in ten years, and it's a must see!

Excellent - that mini review sounds far better than what you see in the TV spots and trailers over here. He's portrayed more like he does dish out the pain but in a "rusty" way and it's more car chases and quips than anything.

Good one Ace, got me geared up for it more now! :)

Shame to hear that The Last Stand didn't do well at all this weekend.  I think, in terms of Arnold's next career move, it might be wise to wait to make Terminator 5 his next film, as that will at least have a large enough built-in audience to ensure that's it's at least a reasonable hit even if it doesn't reach the box office figures of some of the earlier films in the series.

'The Tomb' will be a decent hit, good cast and good premise. 'Ten' I think will do good with a pretty good cast like Terrence Howard, Sam Worthington, and Josh Holloway in it and being directed by David Ayer, who's coming off from the great success he had with 'End Of Watch'. Not Sure how 'The Legend Of Conan' will be, but I know a script is currently being written for T5, and Arnold said he'll only do if the script is good.

Arnold's pretty big in foreign markets, so I'm interested in seeing the foreign box office for 'The Last Stand'.

I think 'The Last Stand' has played too much upon his big return and almost marketed as a creaky return to action - but 'The Tomb' and 'Ten' already look more hardcore, balls-to-the-wall Arnie than this, not that it's a bad thing, I just think there may be more appeal with assets like Sly Stallone, Sam Worthington and the plots of the films than 'The Last Stand'.

I'll add to the UK gross this week once it's out, I still am excited for his return and hope we get many more from the Oak!
