Another idea I have about an ideal Bond game is not featuring a Bond actor. No Daniel Craig or anyone else, a new actor and Bond whose face you can shape. That way a developer can create a new story for Bond and allow players to do things with Bond that wouldn't be done in a film. A player can have Bond as he's in the films, a cunning deceiver, or an alcoholic with a bad temper. And every action has pros and cons. By going in by stealth you'll miss getting this target or info and by going in heavy you miss something. Allow Bond to change his appearance. If he's going to walking around the slums of some Eastern European city a black suit jacket and bow tie will stick out. Also allow travel between certain destinations (London, Moscow, Paris, etc.) Bond can decide whether to fly back to London or stay in his current location and explore more.
Have a dialogue system so Bond can make choices. Does he fully trust Her Majesty's government or is he willing to dig deeper into MI6's motives. Based on how the player acts and the conclusion of the game there will be multiple endings but add in hint that the ending the player is witnessing isn't the "perfect ending." Bond can be the perfect loyal agent, following all of MI6's instructions but add in a hint that there was something else going, likewise for other endings.

And of course the graphics. Of course with Activision I don't think they're going to pony up the cash for the Frostbite engine.

Just watch this demo for upcoming game called "Watch Dogs", an open world game set in Chicago

I just don't think an open-world approach works for Bond. Bond is tight, crafted spectacle- not wandering around.

Maybe, but think about how much wandering around, talking, thinking and tailing Bond does in films like 'Dr.No', 'Goldfinger', 'The Spy Who Loved Me'...he spends as much as time as audiences will get on screen exploring new places to get the clues/missions and find his targets and that adds to the whole adventure we are taking with Bond.

I'm actually getting angry at the possibility of a game like this where we simply become the CHARACTER of James Bond, with references taken from the films and the books, because this is after all where he hails from, to create a unique, original gaming adventure.

Beautifully detailed levels...gorgeous music...atmospheric encounters....complex characters...witty humour....puzzle solving...tense action....a decent story....

Sounds brilliant, and I'm annoyed we can't get it!

I think the problem is that most movie licenses go to companies with lots of lobbying power. A publisher gets hold of a popular franchise, farms it out to a development company, usually results in horrid to subpar results, end result is said publisher makes money off fans of said franchise.
Also I think that companies like Rockstar or Bioware would rather spend the time and effort developing their own stories rather than an adaptation of a franchise. Another factor is EON themselves. How much input does EON have in the development of a Bond game and would they allow a radical departure from the norm.
Ah well. We'll see how good 007 Legends is. Personally I'm really excited to see what Rockstar does with the spy genre with Agent which is described as

Agent takes players on a "paranoid journey into the world of counter-intelligence, espionage and political assassinations during the height of the Cold War at the end of the 1970s

Oh and another game suggestion for the creating your own Bond feature, allow an option so that Bond can resemble any of the 6 Bond actors =)

Me too, but I reckon they will worry that anything new will..."Not sound like James Bond, and the Casino Royale music is something every Bond fan likes and it sounds loud, fast and very, very dramatic to put shooting and explosions to so let's use that for this trailer and everyother one after!"

007 Legends
Hi All, IGN's show "Up at Noon" is experiencing some technical difficulties and their show is slightly delayed as a result. This is where we'll be revealing our new OHMSS teaser trailer and as soon as it is up, we'll let you know!

Kudos to you!

Some people need to get over the fixation on trailer music. The original James Bond theme from 1962 was used for trailers well into the 1980s. More than anything the trailers are trying to sell the game rather then be an art form of their own. It's just an identifiable theme the masses will recognise. We have this generation's Bond theme.

I agree the endless shooting isn't exactly exciting, but I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt considering GoldenEye Reloaded actually had quite solid stealth mechanics.

Tightly scripted, witty little scenes. I can't see a game doing that in the same way. Bond's not an investigator, he's an action man who strolls from one set-piece to another. I want to feel I'm in a Bond film, not a Bond-themed world.
Non-linear games are great, but they're not Bond. Something like Uncharted feels about right.

Well I can't watch this video at work but I'm guessing it's the choral music again? And I've not got a problem with certain bits of music used for things, but this was the 'Casino Royale' trailer music for that film and Bond re-launch...6 years later, I really feel they should use some different variation of the theme to constantly market this game to us - just even re-mixed versions of the themes from the films they are using would be fresh and new but not the same music everytime, that just makes the game sound repetetive.

I understand this. My only point was that I feel Bond is an action/thriller but something about some of the modern games takes that away - I think that there can be too MUCH gunplay and fighting and explosions and after a while they fuse into just one big shooter in different locations. I don't know...I know Bond games wouldn't work if they weren't in this style, it just seems millions of bad guys in fight after fight makes me feel like I'm in a war game or Rambo film...not a suave spy like James Bond.

I can't say the music bothers me. For one, it's a video game, not a film. If they were still using the music in the Skyfall trailer I might say it's time for something new, but at the end of the day it doesn't matter this this particular cut has nothing to do with the film (or in this case, the game) aside from being in the trailer.

As for the footage, it's a bit hard to judge the game based on 16 seconds of gameplay. Sure, it looks like it's overcharged with action, but they do need to make it seem exciting. The original GoldenEye 007 was pretty action packed as far as guns blazing so I don't see why it's suddenly a problem. I could isolate 16 seconds of that and make it look like a mindless shooter. I'm sure we'll still have some stealth elements. It's a case of waiting and seeing. That said, I would like to see a full stealth mission a la Night Watch from The World Is Not Enough.

Well just had a sneaky check on FB on my phone here at "work" and...surprise surprise....this is as tedious as the lenthly picture reveals we have to do when we "Like" things...this was a Teaser Trailer to the actual 'OHMSS' segment video preview which will be on IGN on Wednesday...so we'll be getting something bigger tomorrow hopefully.

I just don't know why we couldn't just wait until the full preview is ready.

Probably same old re-hash, but I await to be surprised!

You just know they've recycled the environment/textures from Severnaya in GE Reloaded.

I'm sure it's not going to be completely awful, but it's a shame they have to use the shooter angle for all the trailers.

I thought the reason it was delayed til Wednesday was cos Up at Noon was delayed too, but no, they had always intended just to show a 20 second trailer!

Much better! Craig and Rigg together look great. Although, it would've been better if each mission played through the entire movie. A few missions for Moonraker and OHMSS, instead of just one set piece for each.

Interesting that they kept the scar on Blofeld. Regular blokes can't recognize him without it maybe? It was nice to see Craig and Rigg together. Hopefully there will be some cutscenes to flesh the story out.

Yeah, I think the scar was necessary. If they're going for nostalgia, then I guess the scar needs to be there.

Blofeld actually looks a lot like a cross between Telly Savalas and Donald Pleasance. I'm very impressed with the renderings of Craig and Rigg.

Have we heard anything on whether Craig is doing voice work for this game? I assume he is but I haven't read confirmation anywhere.

The scar on Telly's Blofeld tells me that You Only Live Twice will indeed be used as the Connery film in the game. It'd keep his appearance consistent and perhaps the You Only Live Twice mission could even be the follow-up and have the proper revenge. One can hope, although I may just be looking too much into it. In any event, this trailer looks great. Lots of signature moments from the film intact as well as some new things to shake up the formula and modernize it a bit.

God! Talk about organized choas!

Still...have to say amongst all the bangs and booms, I like the fact they've kept Diana Rigg as Tracy, and not changed her like they did with Natalya or Xenia in 'GoldenEye Reloaded'.

And seeing Blofeld with the scar in a Craig era game is pretty exciting...I wonder if they will use any plot points from the film and have Tracy die, or injured, with Bond pushed to the limit for revenge / retribution maybe?

No, this one looks ok. Very interesting. Roll on Mission 3! Connery or Dalton perhaps?
