Roger Moore´s "Bond on Bond" now has a nice promo video on amazon: http://www.amazon.co...=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

I had a look at this in Waterstones today. Very disappointing. I was looking forward to reading some slightly detailed critiques of the other Bonds and their films. All you get is a string of Wikipedia entries with a couple of asides every now and then to make it feel Moore-esque.

They then pad out the back of the book with a poster for each film.

I'm not sure, maybe they broke the street date. They also had the Bond Posters book back on the shelves.

Hmm - I was concerned that this would be the case. I did wonder just how much effort could be put into this book so soon after his biography.

Really Wikipedia entries?

And are there at least lots of (rare) photos?

Oh dear....really?! Would you spend £13 on a Hardcover edition or a £6 Kindle edition in that case? Is it looking good? Any decent pics?

I thought it would be something special but that's but a sour taste on it! Thanks for the heads-up Pete, I'll have to see if I can find it in my Waterstones.

It's basically a potted history of Bond in the most generic way possible. The Bond on Bonds section went from Bond to Bond in about two paragraphs. Pierce Brosnan became Bond in 1995, sporting a beard for his role as Robinson Crusoe in his first press interviews. Next sentence he's on his way out, with only the words "I think reluctantly" or something similar to suggest Moore had written it himself.

I wouldn't really know if they were rare photos, but there were certainly a lot of them!

I think all the photos have one line captions, ie. "I think he'll be needing collision coverage on that" etc. on a photo of DC from the QoS chase, written by Moore, but they're the most significant things I noticed.

Maybe I was missing the main bits that he'd written, but the thing I was most interested in, his opinion of the other actors, was nowhere to be seen.

One of the closing lines is about how Quantum of Solace had the biggest budget of all the films "so it's great to see it's still loved by many" etc. all very generic stuff.

Not from what I saw of it, but I think you should make your own mind up. It came across as a cash in though.

Hmm, will try and find this in stores before I buy online.

Thanks Pete for the preview! Very handy in this time of so many Bond books coming out, which ones really are worth buying from the off...

Okay. So my expectations are lowered. Considerably.

Still, I did not expect Sir Roger to dish out any "honest" comments on the other Bonds. That would be bad form, not worthy of a man of his class. A book like this can only feature general statements, delivered in the typical Sir Roger-manner.

And that might just be the reason why I still want to buy it...

Very favourable Amazon reviews for Catching Bullets and James Bond Unmasked:

About Catching Bullets:

Being the obsessive Bond fan that I am I've read many, many books regarding various people and their connections to the world of 007, usually they tend to be rather dry and dull crew and cast recollections, this book though is all about being a fan and growing up with Bond and it's an absolute joy to read. Being roughly the same age as the author I can fully identify with his journey and his 1980's recollections of videoing Bond off the telly at Christmas and the frustrations of 'pan and scan' (despite not having such a great family connection to the world of EON!), while not a fact and figures reference guide this book contains enough trivia and insightful observations to appeal to any fan of 007, but it's much more than that it's also the tricky journey through adolescence as a gay 007 fan and the joys and anguish that can entail, and the constant good humour is both warm and very funny (my personal favourite gem being that line about "Roger's Bond deflowering more than just Kananga's poppy fields"). I can't recommend this wonderful book highly enough and it's well worth the money.

About James Bond Unmasked:

Since the Bond films are absolute classic films of the action genre, I was excited to read this book. I must say, it does not disappoint.

This book is filled with information on each of the Bond films, interviews with the six actors who have played James Bond, and photographs that help bring this book to life.

A synopsis of each film is included, and these are fun to read through even if you have seen all the movies. Not only do the synopses explain what happened in the movies, but they also contain quotes from the Bond actor who was in that specific film.

The actor interviews are superb, and offer a unique perspective on the films. Each actor was able to both fulfill the Bond role as he was written, as well as bring his own unique characteristics and abilities to the role so that every actor had an impact on who James Bond was. It is intriguing to read about what those qualities are and how each actor used them to redefine the Bond character as his own. The interviews give you the chance to learn more about how the actors felt within each of their roles as James Bond, as well as opinions and extra information on scenes from the films.

The quotes and interviews with the Bond actors offer an inside perspective on the films, and it's very enjoyable to read. Anyone should read this, whether you're a fanatical James Bond fan or a distant admirer.

Deffo still a buy, just not sure if it's worth the hardback edition or save half and get the Kindle edition. It doesn't sound like a 'Bond Bible' of sorts worthy of keeping up with the big boys on my shelf.

Thanks for the update on Roger's book. I'll most likely have to order it as the local stores don't stock many movie books anymore.

It's only $18 here so that's not too bad.

I really should save my pennies for that 007 Archives book. $120 or so.. Ouch.

I'd really like to know what is in that one.

Thanks for the notes about On Set too. I'll pick that one up.

Just happened to pick up Life magazine's "50 Years of James Bond: On The Run with 007, from Dr. No to Skyfall" retrospective at Target this afternoon.. Contains interesting facts, photos and tidbits of EVERY Bond film, including Casino Royale (1954 and 1967 spoof) and Never Say Never Again.. I HIGHLY recommend you buy it if you can get your hands on it..

Have the ALL ABOUT BOND book now. And leafing through it, my first impression is: fantastic photos, on set, during breaks, in the studio. Lovely! (Especially the ladies...) Recommended!

I looked for it today, thought I seen it and it was 'Life's Neil Armstrong Edition. So I guess it goes though film by film like in the title ' DN to SF'.

I haven't heard of this one until now, too many to keep track of.

I was given the James Bond 50th anniversary 100 postcards collection yesterday by a friend. Nice little set.

Upon opening the case, I was pleased to see a Lazenby still front and centre at the left.

Have the Sir Roger book, now, too. And it features nice photos, some of them quite rare. Of course, it does not feature lots of new infos - but how can it? The tone of Sir Roger´s laid back irony is the big draw of this book. Especially in the chapters on his own films.

For collectors recommended!

Thanks for the update. I would like to pick this one up and the price point is pretty low on it. $20 I think?
Anyway. Hoping to order Bond on Set and Skyfall soundtrack next.

SAF - would you say this book is worth a Hardback purchase, for a die-hard Bond fan, or settle for a simple Kindle/e-reader download?

I'm undecided as I know it's nothing new, except maybe various new bits by Moore, so can't decide!

The Life Bond is available on newstands. I think it's also available in book form, but I would just get the cheaper magazine rack version. just my 2 cents.

I got lucky that my local library has stocked All About Bond and Bond on Set Skyfall. These were more fringe types of books for me. I've picked up Bond on Bond and the Bond music book for good prices, along with the new Cinema Retro Dr. No tribute, which I understand is becoming scarce quickly. Keeping these for Christmas.

I really want the Archives, but my budget just won't allow it right now. Problem is it could become scarce and go up in price. This is one of the two-fold parts of being a Bond fan - a new film brings out a load of new stuff and you can't go too crazy or January brings more than just a chill in the weather. :D

Has anyone picked up the James Bond Archives book? I am very curious about it, but I too am having a hard time coughing up the $125 to buy it.

I did not pick up Skyfall Bond On Set. After further review of the previous On Set books I determined I really only looked at them once or twice and that was it.

Roger Moore's book I did see at a book store and I will buy that one for sure.

I saw The Making of The Living Daylights is out too. I loved The Making of OHMSS and will be ordering Daylights for sure.
