Has anyone seen or heard of this DVD coming out, 'James Bond Gadgets' ?

No I haven't heard of this dvd.. Hmm.

It's probably one of them awful TV Documentaries. I wouldn't set your hopes I high.

Wow. Ok, this is the one to buy.. All of the other Bond books are optional, IMO.

Amazon added a cover picture of the Life James Bond book.

The Bond posters book that comes with Bond 50 blu ray on Amazon.. Reduced size of the full size book??

Does anyone have further details? Just curious.

I still have not decided on which books to pick up right away.

Last time I ordered Bond on Set right away, but I may wait until I see the film first this time...

Would love to get the Archives book, but $125 is a lot...

I have the Stanley Kubrick Archives from Taschen. And even if the Bond Archives were only half as good we´re in for a sensational book.

Just adding a nod to this new anniversary minded Bond book, CATCHING BULLETS - MEMOIRS OF A BOND FAN.

Foreword by Mark Gatiss
Afterword by Maud Adams
Published by Splendid Books
£7.99
Available from www.splendidbooks.co.uk

From the offbeat vantage point of a gay teenager whose grandfather was chauffeur to legendary 007 producer Cubby Broccoli, Catching Bullets – Memoirs of a Bond Fan is a love-letter to James Bond, Duran Duran title songs and bolting down your tea quick enough to watch Roger Moore falling out of a plane without a parachute.

When Jimmy O'Connell took a job as chauffeur for 007 producers Eon Productions, it would not just be Cubby Broccoli, Roger Moore and Sean Connery he would drive to James Bond. His grandson Mark swiftly hitches a ride on a humorous journey of filmic discovery where Bond movies fire like bespoke bullets at a Reagan-era Catholic childhood marked with divorce, a closet-gay adolescence sound-tracked by John Barry and an adult life as a comedy writer still inspired by that Broccoli movie magic.

Received my copy of 'James Bond - 50 Years of Movie Posters' from Amazon earlier today.

Overall a very nice and well produced publication but not quite as exhaustive as I would have hoped with some notable poster omissions and sadly no representations of the numerous 'double bills' released over the years.

However, the book really does score with a significant number of concept posters that sadly never got produced. These alone make the book a worthwhile purchase for anyone with at least a passing interest in the advertising used to sell the films.

I was interested in a review of this book and was wondering about the same ref the double bills - an area of poster production that has to my recollection, never really been documented outside of 007 magazine reproducing a few.

I personally have 18 UK double / triple / festival quads, have seen images for another two and have heard of there being at least one other - making at least 21 UK posters devoted to this area of marketing.

And then there are the five US 1 sheets and God only knows what happned in the rest of the world.

How does the book compare to the Tony Nourmand one?

Cheers.

Hi Simon,

The book is far superior to the Tony Nourmand one in terms of overall content. The print quality, layout and reproduction is on a par but this latest book contains more snippets of general info and better identification of known artists.

I would still rate the Nixdorf book the slightly better release out of the three but as I previously said what sets this DK publication apart is the inclusion of many unused posters concepts which is an absolute treat.

It is an unfortunate oversight not to have included any double bills as many offer a fascinating merging of design and witty taglines that I would of thought many readers would have enjoyed.

I suspect you will quickly pick up on some of the missing posters which include (off the top of my head) the following;

FRWL (Premiere Quad)
Goldfinger (1/2 Sht or 6 Sht that would have provided an interesting colour comparison to the Sty A Quad)
Thunderball & YOLT (Esquire 2-sheets)
DAF (Marler Haley set)
NSNA (Japanese B1 Bikini pose)
TND (US Advance 1Sht)
DAD (Int C&D 1Shts)

However, I do highly recommend it as will still provide adequate temptation for all the posters we would all no doubt still like to acquire!

Paul.

Thanks for this Paul.

So, if the DAF Marler set is Not included, does that mean complete sets of all subsequent titles are included - I think they only went up to TLD.

The C and D DAD 1 sheets do thend to get short shrift - to this day I have no idea why two such similar designs were printed...

Also, are there any new poster concepts that have not been issued before via all the other usual media outlets? The 007 magazines and the old ArtofBond website had a bunch of these.

But the basis of your aforementioned, I will probably pick this up on your review.

As an aside, you sound like you know your way around the poster world - are you a member of any of the poster forums?

Cheers.

Are any of the these books going get an update or there are NO plans to update them at all.

James Bond Encyclopedia by John Cork and Collin Stutz with a foward by Michael G. Wilson (IF there was not one before, I have not look at mine for a while).

James Bond: The Secret World of 007.

Essential Bond: The:The Authorized Guide to the World of 007 by Lee Pfeiffer, I dout it will get an update at all. Since it was never upated after Tomorrow Never Dies

By the way will there be a Skyfall magazine from Starlog or some other magazine company here in the U.S.. There have not been one since The World Is Not Enough.

thanks for the posts about the Bond Posters book by DK!!! I just noticed it was in stock and shipping. I ordered Bond 50 from Amazon so I'll get the limited version of the book. I was going to wait and see what I thought before considering buying the full version.

Thank you for the post though! I have the older Nourmand book as well. Would like to know it will be a book that I will actually look at more then a few times. : )

I have so many Bond books I feel like I need to choose well.

None of your listed books will be updated. There was no news or plans to do so.

Starlog is long gone too. They stopped publication a few years back. So they will not being doing a Skyfall magazine.

Maybe someone else will jump in and do one, but I kind of doubt it. It's kind of becoming a thing of the past sadly..

All that being said, there is a nice run of new Bond books to pick up...

Something that I've been wondering. Why are some official books (Such the Poster book) covering the rogue Bond movies? I can understand it being all things Bond, and celebrating everything for Bond 50, but it seems a bit strange. Especially since Casino Royale '67 and Never Say Never Again aren't in the Blu Ray Boxset.

At a guess I'd say it's because the rights to the 'black sheep' are now all under the same mantle and including them in these books provides added content without much fuss.

I always thought EON should try and buy NSNA, CR 67 and CR 54 and add them as special features to a Connery film or OP and CR.
But
I think its kind of strange as well that NSNA and CR 67 are in the poster book, I feel violated.

Thanks for the reviews fellow 00's.

I'll probably pass on the Life book for now.

Roger Moore's book and Bond on Set are the 2 I'll pick up right away.

I'm getting the condensed posters book from Amazon with my Bond 50 order.
The Archives book is the one I have the greatest interest in, but it's really expensive too.

any news on a 2013 James Bond calendar?

£12.50 on Amazon.co.uk - 50% off.

Really cannot get a grasp of the economics between RRP and the massive percentages off the Amazon prices. While I understand Amazon is a clicks only operation, ie not clicks and mortar, the above price still represents an unusual start price.

Anyway, makes it more palatable to add to everything else available this year.

Good price for a hardover Bond book...but half-price Kindle edition? That's tempting to save a bit of money...but I'm a sucker for nice Bond books in all their glossy glory!

I wasn't expecting them to tells us about the layout of the book, Gadgets, Girls and Villains etc. I thought it would have been organized from film to film (DN-SF).
Looks good none the less.

Agreed. Roger Moore's book looks great. Roger Moore is a class act too. This book looks like it will be great.
Very cool.

I am really enjoying seeing Roger participate so much in the 50th Anniversary celebration. He's a huge asset to the James Bond film series.
