There's a Bond Theme sting at the start of the soundtrack. I wonder if we might still get the iris opening out to reveal Istanbul?

I wondered this as well. Some speculate that "sting" may strike when Bond first steps into frame but I thought it might be related to the mysterious "something" that is shown before the pretitles in lieu of the gunbarrel. Apparently Mayo and Kermode have stated there is a "two second" something that kicks of the film, which may or may not relate to that chord of Bond music we hear.

I don't get why the gun barrel isn't at the start, but I don't particularly care either. It's not something that makes or breaks a movie.

It would be interesting to know why the producers decided to place it at the end.

I'd really like to know this too. I thought putting it at the end was just another one of the horrible QOS decisions and, of course, it would be corrected in SF. But apparently not. What's up with this?

This shouldn't bother me but it does.

Here's hoping it will be in its rightful place.

Have Kermode and Mayo reviewed Skyfall yet, and have they released audio of their review online?

Somebody on the forum indicated they have done their review but won't release it until next week. Apparently they thought it was excellent.

IIRC, Simon said it was brilliant and Mark said "he's back" as teasers. They also said not to miss the start because there's "a little two second thing that you won't want to miss." Really intrigued as to what it could be now, if it's that important but not the gunbarrel.

Perhaps a United Artists slate? Although that seems a bit niche for even Kermode and Mayo to pick up on.

I hope the gunbarrel will be back in the begining with the precredit. But still right now no one can tell us is it or not, or no gunbarrel at all. Even those big name movie reviewers. I think they should have the gunbarrel be back in the begining with the precredit. It the right thing to do.

I'm really intrigued by the little two second thing that you won't want to miss. Hopfully it not one of those that going to go by so quick that one don't even notice it. IF it is, hopfully someone will post it online as to what it is.

I think someone has said that the 50 years logo is at the end.

So I'm guessing that instead of becoming the title a la QOS, the Gunbarrel will become this:

Posted Image

Perhaps with the words "James Bond Will Return" under it.

I believe the 2 second scene must be the MGM logo as that has a revamp this year with a close up of the Lions eye and then pulls back on the face as it roars.

I hope not, because that's just the new MGM logo itself - nothing really to do with the film.

I can definitely say: the GB is at the end of the movie.

it's similiar to the one from QOS, but it's a new shot. I think it was very fast, darker and when I remember correctly, Bond puts up his left arm for the shot, like in the TB gunbarrel, I think.

I was very disappointed when I first heard about it, but when I was watching the movie, it was fine for me, it really fits to the end of SF and so you leave the cinema with a big smile on your mouth. but of course, I really hope they put it back to the beginning in B24.

and yes, after the GB they show you a 50th anniv. logo and BIG letters: JAMES BOND WILL RETURN! then credits.

Thanks for the information, Gernot. It's not going to be a dreary way to end the movie, then. All around celebratory and upbeat.

Can you tell us what is at the beginning of the film? There's been hints that there's something special there too...

I don't know if we can believe in this, but I've just read that Mendes was still editing footage, even after the press screenings... http://www.guardian....g?newsfeed=true maybe they really put it back to the beginning? I don't know.

however, the movie I saw started with a sequence in turkey, this is one image from that sequence, it was really a cool introduction:

Or for Bond 25... or for Bond 26... or maybe, just ***maybe*** they want to do a proper Bond film in 2094 with the gunbarrel at the beginning. Maybe my grand-grandson is able to watch it, if he's a Bond fan! I'm SO HAPPY :D

Kind of goes without saying, doesn't it.

I guess Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace aren't proper Bond films either based on some of the reaction to the possibility of the gunbarrel being in a different place. :S

You should say "a proper film". Without doubt, it'll be an excelent film, no doubt of that.

Could someoen explain me why the hell did we have the gunbarrel on two posters?

I never said the film would be BAD, just a little less good that I expected it to be. I've been expecting a gunbarrel at the beginning since 2002 dammit! CR... ok, Bond wasn't Bond. QoS... well, Marc Forster or whoever wanted to put it at the end, Skyfall... oh boy, you gotta learn to drop it!

Well said.

I just find it hard to believe that there can be this much complaining regarding something that basically amounts to any other studio logo that appears before a film.

WTF?!?!?!?! "any other logo"? tell me, does Charlie's Angels, Zorro, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Batman, Superman, etc. got a gunbarrel at the beginning?

The GUNBARREL is a JAMES BOND TRADEMARK, the gunbarrel makes James Bond JAMES BOND! Otherwise, they've just taken it out after You Only Live Twice or Diamonds Are Forever to introduce a new Bond. And, if that's "just a logo", why wasn't it taken out like the old United Artists logos from the DVD releases?

Come on. I was pretty disappointed as well, but I'm over it. I'm always up for iconography in the Bond films. Be it the gunbarrel, Bond theme, the line, opening titles, tuxedo. At least we're getting a gunbarrel. This will be great film, I'm sure of it. It's extremely childish to say, and you have said this, that the film overall will not be as good as 'Tomorrow Never Dies' or 'The World Is Not Enough' mainly because of the alteration of a 10 second logo at the beginning of the film. It's like saying Skyfall will be the best Bond film ever, if the gunbarrel was at the start, but Lee Tamahori came back to direct, with a terrible storyline, and a bunch of hollywood a-listers in the lead roles. Was Die Another Day a good film just because it had a 'traditional Bond opening'? Yeah, of course that's leagues better than Casino Royale, because the little logo at the start was still there. You can't be up in arms about 'Skyfall' just because the gunbarrel is not at the beginning.

So it's the gunbarrel that makes James Bond "James Bond".I guess Ian Fleming had nothing to do with it, since the gunbarrel didn't appear in any of his novels.

Of course Die Another Day is a better Bond film. Nothing says "Bond" like surfing down a giant, iceberg-created tsunami. That's certainly more Bondian than a film that is actually a relatively close adaptation of an Ian Fleming novel. [/sarcasm]
