No matter what you watch, the impact of those white dots and the loud music conjurs up more excitement for Bond in 15 seconds than a 3 minute opneing title sequence can do in my opinion which is why I feel it's so important to have.

Is that the gunbarrel music from Goldfinger?

I'm preparing myself for disappointment nonetheless (not that Skyfall overall doesn't look like an absolute treat).

Well I hope it's there but I am sure in the context of the film and what Mendes and team have done, it will all look great no matter how it's used. Slow, steady white dots, a smooth walk in, BANG, all with that music is all I need, to take the sour memory of the rushed, fuzzy 'Quantum Of Solace' effort.

Well that's annoying if he's got that totally wrong - was he asleep and woke up at the end or something according to what we've heard? You can't get that wrong unless you're not a fan.

I'm rarely impressed by his intelligence.
Good point about the Avengers post-credit scene, though Gothamite. You never know.

If it is of any consolation, my book has a gunbarrel sequence. Right at the beginning.
That proves your book knows what Mendes, Broccoli, Wilson, Logan, Purvis & Wade can't do: give us a classic JAMES BOND 007 film with all its classic elements.

But does fall just short of managing to be a film.

Re Simon Mayo (and Mark Kermode on BBC Radio 5Live Film Review Show). He didn't say this exactly, he's not really allowed to review the film until next week but he did say it was "fantastic" (Kermode agreed), his exact wording was "don't be late." He went on to day something happens within the first TWO SECONDS of the film that were of great interest. Exact what that is, who knows...Apparently Simon Mayo said that the gunbarrel is back where it belongs in Skyfall. Now, either they've changed the movie or he's just plain wrong. I think the latter is more likely.
The entire show is a Bond special next week (BBC RADIO 5live, 2pm-4pm) and this week's podcast (on iTunes) has the exact quotes available.

He said it on his Radio 2 show on Thursday.
You'll notice I posted this before his 5live show was broadcast!

Starting to look like a Trekkies board
I have no problem with people being upset the gunbarrel isn't in the front of the movie. I take issue with people dismissing the quality of the movie because it doesn't include the gunbarrel,.

Yes, I can relate to that line of thought. Good show Jimmy.

But 50 years ago, the James Bond series began with a gun barrel sequence at the beginning of the movie, and 50 years later, I think Skyfall should follow suit.
It only makes sense...

I think the gun barrel should fit in with the films e.g. at the end of the PTS in CR and deferred until the end of the film in QOS to suit the car chase at the beginning which is one of my favourite opening to a bond film (I realise that QOS on the whole might not be all that we hoped).
I'm sure most people won't give two hoots once they've had 2 hours and 20 odd minutes of quality Bond!
