i'd say that there was going to be a press conference but something has made them change their minds.
How will this go? The invited media will at least try to talk to the cast members being photographed.
There is bound to be some sort of press release headed out too.
Has anyone any idea when or where this is going to take place?

Just because there isn't a press conference doesn't mean that Sony/MGM won't still put out a press release of the title online or in the paper or something. I don't know, wishful thinking. At least there will be a photocall so we'll have the final cast (unless further additions are made well into filming).
If they're not putting out the title, then maybe they really don't have one yet, who knows. They could also wait several months or so to release, just like Disney did recently with Star Wars Episode VII. The new film was announced in January of 2013 (I think), filming began in May, and we just got the full title The Force Awakens, like almost a month ago, when filming concluded. Maybe they're going to take that route.
Either way, this is all very interesting. I'm actually quite surprised they've been able to keep things like this under wraps for Bond 24.

I would expect someone to say a few words, reveal the title and introduce the cast.
Then a photo call with a press pack confirming a few shooting details and perhaps one of those very enigmatic statements about the plot which actually says very little.
Something like that, hopefully.

Fresh news!!! Won't have a Press Conference prior to filming, just a Photocall.
Are you doing a post about this, Marketto?

Maybe it won't be a huge press conference, but if there's a photocall, then there'll also be some kind of announcement and press information. They're not going to say "Here's six people who'll have to do with Bond 24. Take some pictures of them and make of it what you want." That's not how the game works. There will be a handout with information about the actors, a rudimentary summary and maybe a picture or two. And we may or may not get a title. Within two hours, all information along with a handfull of pictures will be available on Sony's press sites. Anything else will create dissatisfaction, which will result in bad press, and they'll certainly want to avoid that.

And there are bound to be talking head sound bites from the cast, Mendes and the producers as part of this.
Still photos are only so useful in a multimedia age.
This sort of thing will be given out as an EPK to the gathered press and available on the Sony press site, they will want to make news reports with this event.

Sounds rather nebulous to me (with all due respect).

The last time there was a press pack of any sorts was for CR, and that was just a standard Sony folder with a sheet and a photo. The last meaningful press pack was for DAD, which was introduced as Bond 20.
And EPK's? No. Everything is just links and downloads.
It seems that perhaps they have realised the point of a press conference is fairly limited as, at this stage, everything is denied or not answered. Cynicism sets in everyone wanders away thinking of lunch. Perhaps a splurge further down the line is planned.

Below is a link to the press release that went out at the same time as the Skyfall news conference.
Even if there's no news conference, my guess is you'd see something similar for Bond 24.

Just wondering, could we got something along the lines of what was done for TLD, where shooting kicked off in Pinewood but the first press conference was held on location in Vienna?

I can pretty much see that, which isn't bad to be honest.

I do have a rather nice press book for QoS, as well as one for CR. And even though I only have them as PDF files and I've never actually seen either of them in the flesh, I'm certain that they were created for printing purposes (one of them has 25 MB for 35 pages, says something). I only have German versions of those, the English equivalents I have are text only.
I'd love to have proper press kits, but there's no need to produce expensive fancy stuff any more except to make us collectors happy. Every journalist is used to work with the press sites. Everything is there, the press releases, the images, trailers, audio files, interviews, behind the scenes clips. I have tons of that kind of material since DAD, but it's just not the real thing...

Yes, for some reason, there is more emphasis on presskits / packs for the German language. Very little for the English language.
Take your point about the PDFs, but, perhaps like you, if it isn't already printed then I take it to mean it was never to be printed. Even though I prefer the real (?) thing, it is just no more.

Not certain about more emphasis on German language material. The way these look doesn't imply that the were produced for one market only. The QoS one has pictures I've never seen anywhere else, they have a proper corporate design and everything. I just have better access to German language material.
And it looks they were printed at one point, found images online:
But this is still a German version...

The title for SKYFALL was announced well over a year before the film was released. Let's hope that set a precedent for BOND 24.

Yes, but no response yet. But I believe is going to be next week, since shooting starts December 6th.

Yes. Some seem to think that there will be a press conference and it will be held on 4th December.
Here is a link. As they say, it's something that their sources has told them, now they are waiting to get it confirmed.

If principal shooting starts on 6th (which is a Saturday, btw, so I assume it will actually start on Monday - unless it starts in Morocco) it's only logical that, if a press conference or a photo call or whatever takes place, it will be on the Tuesday Thursday before (like all the other Bond press conferences before), so the news will be able to feature prominently in the weekend papers. My money has been on that date for weeks.

Thursday, of course. Happens sometimes when English is not one's first language
