I reckon by now Newman will have created suites for Mendes, for the 'vibes' of the different characters and locales. He will have jammed and experimented with his regular gang - George Doering, Paul Clarvis, Frank Ricotti, John Beasley, Phil Todd, John Parricelli, Sonia Slany and others, getting a mood going, and combined this with mockups.

You´re probably right.  Also, he will have heard the song and worked on it, too.  I guess it will be pretty much the same time table as with SKYFALL.

 

And Mendes reportedly is very hands-on with his film scores - so he probably has asked Newman to work up mock-ups far in advance.  Newman called their working relationship "brinksmanship".
