Maybe Silva is hiding in the hotel room with the stolen hard drive when Bond chases off after Patrice, and he misses an early chance to nab him?
I think this is possible too.

Very nice work. Yes, the information I have about Bond arriving on the island and meeting Silva has no mention of a set called "Silva's office", which suggests it is indeed from earlier in proceedings. I'd say the most likely time for the cutaway might be after Bond has been to the MI6 bunker to meet Mallory for the first time and before the sequence of Bond getting back into shape.
Yet again, I find myself needing to re-study the Gassner videoblog. I can't remember that off the top of my head, but I know there are several parts to the Silva island sets at Pinewood - in addition to the server room and courtyard we've already seen. A scene of the henchman reporting to the villain would be pretty decent. Doesn't feel like we've had a good one of those for ages.
I'd forgotten about that... If Ola Rapace was indeed telling the truth, I guess Silva must also be there, although perhaps only in silhouette to the audience.
The only other explanation I can think of, is that we get some cut-away scenes from London towards the beginning of act one. Patrice reporting to Silva. Didn’t Gassner have sketches of a corridor with air locks and stuff leading to Silva’s office or something like that?
Found it.
At 0:48 we get a look at Gassner's sketchbook. It’s a floor plan of a long narrow set with a series of air lock doors.
Above, is written ‘Int Silva’s Office,’ ‘Computer Room’ and ‘Corridor to Courtyard’ - But I don’t think this set is intended to be any of those three, I think they refer to rooms that are adjacent to this.
Judging by the other annotations (‘Computer Banks Below’) this set is intended to be high above the 'Computer Room'. I would think it leads to the lift that Silva is seen stepping out of in the trailer.
Now we either get shots of Silva walking down this set before entering the lift as part of the build-up to his first encounter with Bond or it’s for something else, which would have to be for a scene earlier in the film, as they do not go back.
Stick with me here… as Bond has only just arrived on the island and the annotations also mention ‘Silva’s office’, I’d say the cut-away from the London to show Patrice meeting Silva towards the beginning of act one idea, has some credibility.

I visited the Designing 007: 50 years of James Bond Style at the Barbican today, the last day of the exhibition in London. It was awesome!
Taking pictures inside was forbidden, but i did see Severine's dress for Skyfall, and M's office door. And the Aston Martin DB5, the Skyfall version, which i got a picture with, so i thought it would be relevant to this thread:
Can't wait to see Craig thrash this bad-boy around the hills of Scotland!
I'd forgotten about that... If Ola Rapace was indeed telling the truth, I guess Silva must also be there, although perhaps only in silhouette to the audience.
I'd say one of them is, the other is Ronson, as Marketto says. Now, was Ronson sent to stop the Turkish businessman selling the disk to Patrice? Or was Ronson selling the disk to the Turkish businessman when Patrice intervenes leaving both for dead?Maybe it's that Turkish businessman?
My theory...Spoiler
Sounds very plausible – how do you explain the 3 unfinished drinks in the room?
Ronson undercover and in on the deal or another person that we don’t know about yet having been there too, possibly.
Just a thought - Ola Rapace says he has scene(s) with Bardem but...Spoiler
...perhaps we get a glimpse of Silva and him here, right at the start, before Bond walks down the hall and into the light to find the bodies and the disk gone.
Honda head office on the M4, UK. Seem to be celebrating in a minor way in the foyer.

Yes, in Shanghai. We're speculating about whether Silva is also in Istanbul with Patrice right at the start of the movie - as Ola Rapace was quoted as saying he shared some screentime with Javier Bardem.Sorry if I'm entering this conversation blind but doesn't Patrice die

Thanks Vauxhall, that is the part I missed. Hope they do have some screen time together. That would a a surprise I wasn't expecting to see Silva for a while into the film.Yes, in Shanghai. I agree that 2 is more likely, although arguably we could get both. If Silva was in the hotel room at the start of the movie before disappearing into the shadows that would also solve the matter of the three glasses on the table next to Ronson. We’ve narrowed it down to two possibilities (or it could be both)

1. We see Silva and Patrice in the hotel room in Turkey before we see Bond at the very start. With Silva vanishing like a shadow, Bond not realizing he is there – Something along this line anyway.
2. When the main focus of the film is on London, the first section after the main titles, a cutaway scene shows Patrice visiting Silva at his office on the island.
At the moment, my money is on possibility 2.

I absolutely love this shot. This is the way to photograph London without being hackneyed. The unfamiliar geometry of the rooftops and the suffusion of gold color produce an almost oriental effect, like a Byzantine icon, or one of those antique color photographs by Prokudin-Gorskii. London is transformed into something exotic and dauntingly complex.

Agreed with you both. As a London dweller, I love the fact that they've managed to capture the skyline in a new yet familiar way. Indeed, it also shows the level of access that Bond can secure, as this angle and shot cannot be obtained by attending any publicly opened building in London.I agree, Big Ben (I know that’s the bell inside, not the clock tower, but let’s just call it that) is one of the world’s most photographed landmarks. For Skyfall to come up with a shot this fresh is actually quite a triumph.
