Because the Ministry of Defence is opposite it, and since they can't film inside the MoD, the DECC works as a stand-in?They are being very specific in recreating every street that circles the DECC across town. Why name the exact streets that form that block if they are not referring precisely to the DECC?
We know shooting has taken place on the roof of the DECC. What we don't know is where the cameras were positioned. It would not be too difficult to show very little of the DECC buidling itself, and since many people probably wouldn't be able to tell the roof of the DECC from the roof of the MoD, you could pass one off as the other with only a little bit of exertion.

Very true. I personally suspect the building will indeed end up being the Ministry of Defence (albeit with questionable security compared to the real thing), but I'm curious as to why they used the Energy Department street names - presumably it would have been simple enough to use the street names specific to the Ministry of Defence instead.Because the Ministry of Defence is opposite it, and since they can't film inside the MoD, the DECC works as a stand-in?

Exactly. Why not use names specific to the Ministry of Defense, if you are renaming streets around a building doubling for the Ministry of Defense?
Why use names of streets that circle a different building, if you are renaming them anyway?
Do you think this is important? Because I do.
Sense set as far apart as 131 and 172 are set at the Department of Energy and Climate Change.
Could Clair Dowar be the minister for this department? I think it’s a serious possibility.
To me, this points to energy and/or climate change being an important factor in Skyfall’s story.

These are minute details. It's unlikely the audience would be able to read the street signs in anything but an IMAX theatre.I'm curious as to why they used the Energy Department street names - presumably it would have been simple enough to use the street names specific to the Ministry of Defence instead.
They're on the same street, aren't they? They're opposite one another. Why use names of streets that circle a different building, if you are renaming them anyway?
With the plot revolving around an attack on London or MI6 and secrets from M's past coming to light, it makes far more sense for the Ministry of Defence to be featured. it directly connects to what we know about the plot whereas the DECC does not.To me, this points to energy and/or climate change being an important factor in Skyfall’s story.

They're on the same street, aren't they? They're opposite one another.
But it doesn’t have Great Scotland Yard running behind it and Scotland Place running to the side. Why bother being that specific? It would be just as simple to use the names of streets that surround the MD if you are putting up fake signs.
Also, as Vauxhall points out, the portrayal of security would be rather wanting. In fact, it would look quite naive on screen - no? It might even provoke mocking sniggers from an audience. Doesn’t a much less sensitive governmental department make more sense?

That's what I was wondering. If they're going to that level of detail, it must be intentional, I'd say.Why use names of streets that circle a different building, if you are renaming them anyway?
I had the same thought yesterday, but I'm not really sure; given all the action, it would most likely make Helen McCrory's role and significance much larger than we expected.Could Clair Dowar be the minister for this department? I think it’s a serious possibility.
I'm also wondering if it actually is significant that the Craig/Harris rooftop scene was at the DECC or whether they just wanted a rooftop overlooking Whitehall, and they were the most accommodating.

That’s what I thought too, until this street renaming specifically took me back to the DECC.

Interesting. Stating the obvious, but it's either coincidence or design. Perhaps, the DECC was approached for using the actual building entrances for the foot chase, and it was deemed not to be possible, but they said they could use the roof instead. Obviously, I've entirely made that up, but there must be some link. That’s what I thought too, until this street renaming specifically took me back to the DECC.

Thanks for the information. Saves me a trip into town!Just had a look, there is nothing happening on Vauxhall bridge this weekend it seems. Bridge is open as normal at the moment, but there are signs saying millbank will be closed for an "event" next Saturday and vauxhall bridge subject to traffic restrictions next Sunday. It's expected to snow in London tomorrow so it seems they've opted to delay for weather reasons.

This brings up an interesting point...is Bond allowed to operated within the UK? I thought MI6 could only work outside the nation.
Exactly. Here's M speaking in "The Property of a Lady" -- "I'll square things with Five. It's their territory, but it's our bird. There won't be any trouble."And it wouldn't be too difficult to write the film in such a way that Bond is allowed to operate there, because none of the films have ever really addressed it before. Sure, it's factually inaccurate, but SKYFALL was never aiming for a realistic depiction of MI6.

But if the weather is fine today, wouldn't it have made sense to at least work today? Who knows, what the weather will be like next weekend..
If it's a big effects and stunt sequence there could be a lot of rigging and scaffolding to do before, and a few days of filming. No point doing all the prep work today if they can't shoot tomorrow. But I'm speculating here, all we know for certain is that of 10.30 this morning there was no sign of any activity on vauxhall bridge, millbank or at mi6

Yep, the TFL website confirms that the road closures scheduled for today to facilitate filming have been bumped to next Saturday instead. I'll head along then.If it's a big effects and stunt sequence there could be a lot of rigging and scaffolding to do before, and a few days of filming. I don't think it's really that strict when it comes to Foreign Office stuff; if the interests are external and its relevant I'm sure they can operate in the country, just as MI5 can pursue security concerns overseas regularly.

I sold £50 worth of song music today to the set designer of the new Bond film, Skyfall. Apparently they're blowing up a piano.

Looks like they're shooting a pretty epic film behind China Town @ Dansey Place. Massive bouncers, Panavision trucks & a stunt Smartcar

Turns out the film being shot behind China Town in Dansey Place is the new Bond film!!!! Props to Nick Goundry for the tip off

Hello guys bit of a rush so apologies for not reading today's flow but took a bus past green park Mayfair london there were 20+ fire engines police etc looked to b arched cranes with cameras etc but could be mistaken. The architecture there is similar to what we've seen already like trinity place. Popping back now to get better idea if it's skyfall filming. Anyone else hear anything similar?
Apparently there was a fire in Mayfair:

hm......that is very interesting....hoping that it is true....but who knows if the site is reliable
I happen to know a lot about the site, it's usually quite reliable when it comes to breaking news and stuff.
Either way, they must know something the rest of us don't. To get a teaser this early would be amazing!

That sentence says they have no inside information, but they are assuming. Nothing more.

However the sentence in the article says "The Skyfall teaser trailer is due very soon". It's said like a statement of fact. Whether soon means end of Feb or March, who knows.

Yes, my mistake - I just had another look at it. Interesting. It does read as if they know something.
