Despite speculation that she was to star as Miss Moneypenny, Harris reveals exclusively to Live that this was never under discussion.

‘The idea of me being Moneypenny was a good, racy rumour. But Eve is not remotely office-bound. She gets to see plenty of action. That meant a lot of gun training.

‘I’m such a pacifist that I never thought I’d be excited about guns, but I absolutely loved it. The weapons training I’d done on Miami Vice was with real bullets, but this time I was shooting blanks. I did two hours three times a week for three months, mostly working with a Walther PPK, a very light, very beautiful, ladylike gun.’

Daily Mail article

No one from the production was giving anything away but Eve will become the new Miss Moneypenny marking the first time the character has appeared in a Bond film since Samantha Bond played her in Die Another Day back in 2002.
The Daily Mail revealed the Moneypenny connection several weeks ago and film officials have said they won't confirm it on the record.

The only way i can see this happening is if she is set up as a normal field agent the whole movie and at the end of the film, Bond is back in the office and sees Eve outside M's office as the secretary and they start flirting before M (Judi or someone else) calls her into the office for something or tells them to stop flirting in a Bernard Lee kind of way

I mentioned Eve Moneypenny before. Interesting. It does have a ring to it.

I had an idea. YEARS AGO. Bond and Moneypenny go on assignment together, Moneypenny plays some kind of Agent Fields character. They get close, are about the have sex, and then they're attacked. Bond sends Penny back to London for her own safety. This sets up the sexual tension in the office. They never got round to doing to deed.

I can actually believe this conspiracy theory - even if it is a bit far fetched. This is actually something they might just try, to introduce a new Moneypenny through the back door as it were. It would warrant a bit of smoke and mirrors, unlike hiding SkyFall away.

Or maybe not. Seems a bit far fetched.

Hmm interesting. Maybe Eve is a field agent but something happens (possibly to do with the MI6 under attack synopsis?) and she can't hack it in the operative field, and so becomes the secretary to M in the finale, thus dropping Agent Eve/Moneypenny name and becoming MISS Moneypenny.

I can hear the conversation now. "This role suits you far better Eve." "That's MISS Moneypenny to you now James."

Oh well, we will see, but I was a biy surprised when they announced her as a Field Agent in the conference. :o

When Helen McCrory was rumored to be in the cast I thought that she might actually be Moneypenny...perhaps this may end up being the case  After all she has some form of a Moneypenny vibe going for her in this pic

Naomi Watts (or, Naomie Harris, as she's more correctly known).

As for this story, I'd say it's more likely that Moneypenny (as M's secretary) just gets caught up in the action somehow or other, and isn't really a field agent, as such.

It's hard to imagine how the transition would occur. To go from field agent to secretary is like being demoted, which would make her character seem like a loser. Unless she's put out of commission by an injury. You know, some minor but disqualifying injury sustained in the line of duty. It would give her an out without requiring her to be a failure at fieldwork.

It does make a certain amount of sense that Moneypenny would be some sort of reassigned intelligence agent, since she would need a top security clearance to do her work.

But I agree with Royal Dalton that "field agent" could be a very loose job description.

The 'journalists' at the Mail aren't ones to let go of a good rumour, are they?

And if any real spoilers came their way, you could count on them to be the first to tell the world and ruin the surprise.

Perhaps someone should organize a black op against all the tabloids - an "Operation Meltdown" if you will, to be carried out simultaneously all over the world.

Any volunteers?

The Daily Mail really is adamant that Naomie Harris is (Eve) Moneypenny. I don't think they'd keep on about it unless their reporter generally believes it to be the case. Very interesting.

Baz seemed to push this point at the press conference (which would seem odd if he wasn’t quite convinced) and judging by the reaction of the panel, I’d say, Eve Moneypenny it is.

I think The Daily Mail leapt on the idea of Harris as Moneypenny - and when she wasn't annouced as Moneypenny, they still clung to it because they'd already committed to it, and although Harris was not confirmed as Moneypenny, she was not confirmed to not be Moneypenny.

I didn't get that sense at all from the panel that she was Moneypenny.

Neither. I think people are reading too much into something that isn't there.

Hope she's not Monneypenny. Or if she is that she bears absolutely no resemblance to the character as previously depicted. A field agent sounds fine, and leave it at that.

To go from field agent to M's secretry wouldn't necessarily be a demotion. Miss Moneypenny would be more than a person to do typing, filing, and making the tea. She'd be responsible for making administrative arrangements for dozens, if not hundreds, of ongoing secret operations, and would have a detailed knowledge of the affairs of the Secret Service. She'd also keep M's calendar, no trivial job. It would be an extremely responsible position, and could well be one that a field agent might aspire to.

I thought Jane was Moneypenny first name? Maybe Jane "Eve" Moneypenny? Ian Fleming protray her as a Former navy Lt so she does have some evidence but not in the field...? I hope this does not turn in a character rip off from devil may care where "Eve" ask for Bond help to get her sister and in the end reveal she is rookie 00 agent....

I thought Jane was Moneypenny first name?

As far as I can recall, Moneypenny was never actually given a first name in any of the films. I believe that "Jane" was given to her by Samantha Weinberg in The Moneypenny Diaries. I do not know whether these are considered canonical, and even if they are, they are only canon in the novels - the films can give her any first name they like.

Lois Maxwell was the best follow by Samantha Bond as the second best in my view. It going to be hard to top them two in my view, whoever gets the role. Caroline Bliss coming in last. Any way I DON'T want to sound like a racist, but a black Miss Moneypenny can that really work in the bond movies.
