Good point EyesOnly.

I fear Brandon Routh was hunted and cast due to his canny look and style which was very comparable to the late, great Christopher Reeve and would really click with audiences, which I think he did but only for that reason.

Cavill will face a great test here, a real departure from everything Christopher Reeve's legacy gave up and trying to create a new take on Superman on his own shoulders without depending on homages Reeve's style or voice even.

But as you say I too am convinced he's doing it right, and will be a wonderful actor as Superman and Clark Kent we see on screen. Can't wait for his return!

I'm not even a Supes fan and this is looking really badass to me.  This is a superhero who should inspire greatness and make our spirits soar.  The trailers for this movie are doing that, making me feel sweaty and slightly tingly...and I mean that in a non-creepy way (mostly).

Not sure why Superman Returns was even made.  Yes the first couple of movies were pretty darn good but it's bloody time to move on to some new Supes film adventures.  Hopefully this flick starts that process.

Considering it also deals with the (new) origins it´s probably a necessary length and not as blown up like other blockbusters these days (length-wise).

I think it's got enough to give it that run time, to spend more time on Krypton as the original film did, which was one of the best parts; understanding and connecting with Jor-El and the fate he has brought upon Kal-El.

Not long now, less than 1 month!

kind of worried about this movie. They've gone so dark with the suit, and it looks SO serious. The Reeve movies that were so good struck a balance, had a sense of fun to them .

I was sceptical at first but have to to embrace the suit. I think it's the general feeling for superhero movies now, to have that darker, a bit more realism to them to appeal to more audiences at the promise of a humane story.

Obviously that falls flat with the Marvel heroes, but looking to like Batman, that too was a little darker yet real, so I think to avoid any incarnation of previous films which may be referred to now as  "camp" or "cheesy" and easy to ridicule, they've gone for something as real as they can while taking into account the grand design.

I actually just noticed there is no yellow in the sheild...gutted!

A new trailer has landed and sheds a little more light on General Zod and his plan to find Kal-El - action packed too!

Much to everyone's disbelief, I actually enjoyed that Trailer and am Currently liking some of the new posters. Still have my doubts, opinions, and whatnot towards it.

Here are some of those new character posters Ace may mean, just released:

I think Zod does look pretty mean in that poster.... more so without his armour!

The new poster actually has a triumphant vibe to it, while Zod's has a sinister one to it.

It's one of the best poster for Superman to embody his power and what he stands for - that sheer heroic look with the epic lens flare.

I had enough of lens flare in Star Trek Into Darkness, so they can back off of it, but It gets the point across.

The other posters felt as if they're looking at the posters for Superman Returns and just going from there.

WB really needs to hire a new poster artist for these Nolan superhero films.  These look like the same terrible posters they came up with for the Batman trilogy.

The art of poster design seems to be a dying craft, I'm afraid. Though I'd rate these efforts shown here actually as better ones, compared to much of the competition.

It´s a pity that a handdrawn poster is not allowed anymore. The age of photoshop is making everything too obvious and crude.

Why do I like the MAN OF STEEL-posters then? Probably because I react to anything with Superman on it with a pawlow reflex.

I think Superman is the only character I'd allow to have a character poster like that - it emphasis his symbol, stature, power and heroism over all other superheroes so that is almost god-like, which he is to us.

Simple but very effective.

But I do agree once a winning poster design is used...it's used again and again and the film loses and sense of scale or dare I say effort in the marketing department.

A poster is just that: A poster. It's meant to get it's point across and raise some eyebrows. They can be dull or awesome, but in the end, it's all about getting the point across. I didn't like the first few posters for Man Of Steel, but the character poster for Superman, I think is really good.

It's not really a winning design, though.  Granted, Batman made a ton of money, but it seemed, at least to me, that it was almost universally accepted that the posters were generally poor.

True, I think this is where they are counting on the love of the character to sell the film, so posters don't have room to say much else except..."Superman is coming!" or "Batman is coming!".

Just caught ST2 this morning with a massive Supes trailer in the previews.  WOW.  If this flick is half as good as it appears, it could be best flick of the summer season for me.  It was such a good trailer I was practically balling my eyes out by the end of it!  (And no, it wasn't just tears of pain due to having to watch Kevin Costner on the big screen again.)  Star Trek: Kids in Space was pretty good, too.  Joe Bob sez check it out.

I agree. And people seem to stop hating him, by the way, after having fun with that for the last decade. Something I never really understood - but sometimes people just cannot stand successful artists and have to tear them down.

I agree as well.  I can't profess to being a huge fan of Costner's, which mainly boils down to the fact that a lot of the films he stars in just aren't those in which I'm interested, but the films of his that I have seen, I've come away impressed by his performances.  I thought he was great in JFK, For Love of the Game, Thirteen Days, and more recently Mr. Brooks.

I personally think Kevin Costner is a terrible actor, though I liked him in only 3 films. Mr. Brooks, Dances With Wolves, and JFK.
