I agree. The fighter jet scene notwithstanding, Live Free or Die Hard is easily the best of the sequels. I used to really like Die Hard 2, but watching it now, it feels like it is tired following Die Hard 1 and Vengeance only survives because of Jeremy Irons and Sam Jackson.

I think the poor choice of writer and director is reason for the poor reviews..........got to choose someone better than Skip Wood who is responsible for A-team and X-men origins Wolvenine(sp?)

And John Moore who directed the god awful Max Payne.

Just saw the PATHETIC 13% rating for A Good Day To Die Hard from RottenTomatoes...Oh dear! I guess the fact the movie is ONLY 97 minutes long is one of the biggest WTF elements... But still this worries me greatly...Maybe the movie should have been called, A Good Day To Die Hard Another Day

Very sad. DidnĀ“t the hype machine start out during principal shooting with declarations that this would be true to the original film and so on?
Yep. Always believe them...

The rating on RottenTomatoes has dropped to 12% and is surely only going to get worse! As one reviewer put it, " A Good Day To Die Hard does feature the best villain in the franchise....director John Moore!" I had planned on seeing this tonight but now those plans are on hold...at least for a few days...I'd much rather partake in another viewing of "Skyfall" tonight..

Same here. I was planning on it, but now I may just wait for the DVD.

The reviews have put me off - I can't say I pay money to see Bruce Willis in the cinema, but I do check out his stuff on DVD, but the 'Die Hards' ar an exception. Granted I've only seen 'Die Hard 4' in the cinema, but I wanted to experience one on the big screen as I missed the first 3.
I feel that this really has lost what made the original trilogy great, and even the redeeming factors of 'Die Hard 4' so I don't think I'm going to bother with this generic action film in the cinema. From what I hear, Bruce Willis has lost that "fish out of water" look McClane had in the first 3 with his almost in-experience at fighting the bigger villains but made use of his police training to do the job - now I think Willis himself has changed and he's made McClane an established one-man army, and that was never an appeal for me of that character.
Big shame, but in a way not surprised.

Its not like any of this is a big shock, I knew the reviews were going to be terrible. Ill have to catch it on DVD though as I ave other engagements at the moment.
Shouldn't the studios actually occasionally embargo reviews until the day of release for some films they know are good? That way we won't always be expecting a stinker when they do it.

The fourth one was bad, and this one is only going to be worse.
Also, i hate how the last couple have been given the '12A' rating. Watered down violence. If they had made it an 18 i might have gone and see it, but i won't be wasting my money on something that has been given 12% on RT.
Apparently Willis has signed on to to Die Hard 6. Bond help us...

'Die Hard 6' should be scrapped, honestly. There's nothing that can be done to better the previous two and make a further, elaborated plot as good as the first. What will he do now? Go to space to save, literally, the WORLD?!
DH1: A Building
DH2: An Airport
DH: A City
DH4: A Country
DH5: Some Continents
DH6: The Earth!
My propsed title: "Old Habits Die Hard". Or, "Die Harded". Or just "Dead".

Die Hard 6? I mean c'mon.. this one isn't doing that good so the sixth one should not be made.

Bruce has been pretty insistent he's doing the 6th, and then calling it quits.
I'd let 6 go and call it quits now.

*singing.."Say Live and Let Die Hard...dum..dum..da...da!! Live and Let Die Hard..."* Hah...I still plan on seeing this at some point to judge for myself, but the overwhelming response has been most discouraging.. This one could very well be Bruce Willis' "Beverly Hills Cop III" or "Blues Brothers 2000" or "Police Academy 7"

Sad to say this one deserves all the criticism it's getting. I loved the trailers and thought it wouldn't be too hard to equal of at least appropach the quality of the fourth movie. LFODH was four or five times better than this one. The movie just slugs on to the screen and never comes to life. The script is below-par, but even without the polish or extra draft it obviously needed it has a few nice ideas and probably could have been the basis for a passable movie, but John Moore's style sucks all the life out of the series. When the big set-piece which took 78 days to shoot limps on for some fifteen minutes without a single exciting or memorable moment, all hope is lost. Despite all the publicity about this being the first in script to be written specifically for the series, it sure as heck doesn't feel much like a Die Hard. Willis probably doesn't have much more screentime than he did in The Cold Light of Day, and isn't playing a character who'll remind you much of the John McLane from the first three films. What you end up with is another dull, ugly John Moore film that's as unmemorable and unentertaining as his other ones. My own personal Phantom Menace but whoever cut the trailer is a genius

Very disappointing to hear all these awful reviews. I wasn't big on the idea of John Moore directing because I find his style awful (Max Payne, a franchise I'm a huge fan of, was ruined in film form mostly due to his dull style), but I was holding out hope that we'd have a tight script and a good performance from Bruce Willis. I'm still seeing it tonight but I'm going in with very low expectations under the hope that I'll at least find it entertaining.

Not sure about any of that; it's already doing pretty well financially and is estimated to do pretty decent business.
Whatever fans tell you the reviews for DAD were significantly better than those for AGDTDH, and with good reason; it's a vastly superior movie.
Despite everything I would still watch a sixth Die Hard, as I would like it to end on a good note, and it's not impossible...McTiernan is out of prison now isn't he?... Can't say I'm going to be cheering on this film's success though...

According to this article on The Hollywood Reporter's website, McTiernan has only served now one month of his year long prison sentence. Depending on how quickly the studio wants to get started on DIE HARD 6, which would depend on how successful it is, McTiernan could be available assuming they're not looking at a very quick turnaround.
Regarding A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD, it's a film that was never set up for success. Taking the series to Russia just feels like that same kind of ploy that we see horror films do when they've run out of ideas and take their characters into space. It's almost like they've decided that they need to make it bigger, as they've gone from a high-rise, to an airport, to the entirety of New York City, to large chunks of the East Coast of the US, and now the next logical decision is to take DIE HARD onto an international scale. Factor that in as well as the decision to hire a director whose best known for awful films like MAX PAYNE and the remake of THE OMEN, it's hard to see how it was ever thought that A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD would be anything other than terrible.

Going to Russia does seem like a its turning into a Rush Hour film or like Fast and Furious has done and many other films but I might turn out liking this film since I'm into it with such low expectations.
