According to this article on The Hollywood Reporter's website, McTiernan has only served now one month of his year long prison sentence.  Depending on how quickly the studio wants to get started on DIE HARD 6, which would depend on how successful it is, McTiernan could be available assuming they're not looking at a very quick turnaround.

Geez, really? This whole thing kicked off before the last Die Hard came out! The wheels of justice really do grind slowly!

Come to think of it, I haven't bothered to see the one before this. What do they say about dead horses...

And what will someone inevitably say about that on a James Bond site? Tedious, perhaps, but with some merit; there's no reason they couldn't make an entertaining fifth John McClane film; they just didn't.

As for John Moore, he's made five big budget films over the last twelve years, all with Fox; he first four have probably all turned a profit by now, but certainly weren't blockbusters, and definitely weren't critical successes or big crowdpleaser. Yet they seem to keep hiring him and he also seemed to get an early look in other projects over the years like Wolverine and such, I guess the guys at Fox just like hanging around the guy. Either that or he's a good "yes man"

There too is a Die Hard marathon going on in my local theater, I'm thinking of doing it, but it's on a class night. Looks like I'll be having the marathon at my house on DVD.

I had the exact same problem. Let me guess, you're talking about the one located in AMC Century City? Haha the very city where the first film took place. Ah, the joys of living in LA. I was going to watch the marathon myself but sadly I had to work and school had just started. I still have yet to see the new movie.

It was at a local theater when I went a month ago with some friends and its also playing at an AMC about 30-45 minutes from where I live. Didn't know there was one in Century City, but come to think of it, it makes sense haha. I missed the Marathon and went for vacation and whatnot.

Not too shocked that this movie is getting tore apart in the reviews.

As much as I try, I just cannot bring myself to like the fourth Die Hard film, and the thing is...it starts off so promisingly  I think the opening apartment shoot out is as good action scene as any from the other three films. Then the cop car/helicopter chase is fun as well. For me though, it all goes downhill after that. Bruce seemingly stops acting like McClane, and there is never a good action scene again. Say what you will about Die hard 2, but each progressive action scene was funner than the last.

And back to this film...I was planning on seeing it this weekend, but after all these reviews I just may pass.

Well, now I can see where all the bad reviews are coming from.

It wasn't downright horrible, but it suffers from poor writing (the dialogue in particular definitely needed a polish) and bad directing.

The biggest problem was that it relied too heavily on action and awful shaky cam work. It felt nothing like a Die Hard movie. The feel was totally lost. The horrid cinematography didn't help matters, and the sound editing was some of the worst I've seen in a recent film. Some of the dialogue was barely audible. I'd blame the theater but I've seen this commonly criticized in reviews of the film.

His son was just annoying. I get what they were going for but it failed big time. The plot was lame and there wasn't enough of John McClane outsmarting the villains, probably because the villains were so bad.

There were a few redeeming factors - the opening car chase was fun, Bruce Willis at least still felt like John McClane even though he wasn't given much to do, and the finale was a fun action scene too. The problem is nothing connected. It was like someone picked a bunch of random action scenes, threw them together and called it Die Hard. It was neither coherent nor consistent, and John Moore was a terrible choice for director.

If they do make a sixth, I sincerely hope they get a good director and find a tight plot and a good villain.

Yeah I mean who knows? the Die Hard franchise could pick up again.. I mean look at Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol. Maybe something like that will happen to a Die Hard movie and then I will have respect for the film.

A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD holds off SAFE HAVEN with $25 million

Looks like DIE HARD didn't do as poorly as expected.  According to EW.com's article, it won the weekend with $25 million, although those numbers are down from those taken in by LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD in its opening weekend.  It's still the best debut so far this year by an action film with a male actor in the lead role, beating out Schwarzenegger's THE LAST STAND, Stallone's BULLET TO THE HEAD, Statham's PARKER, and Whalberg/Crowe's BROKEN CITY.

It's already at $112,839,000 worldwide too, surpassing its $92 million dollar budget. Fan reviews haven't been quite as harsh as critics and I think the Die Hard name alone is bringing people to it. Like I said, it was decent entertainment it just felt more like a generic action film than a Die Hard film. Being that it's already made its money back, I expect plans for a sixth one will remain. Hopefully they'll listen to the bad reviews though and make it worthwhile to end the series on a high note.

I think if anything, people are panning Willis himself for appearing too robotic, too generic and not encompassing his John McClane character enough, so this needs to be improved for any more I feel.

And those who have seen it in the UK, have the cut/edited THAT line like they did in 'Die Hard 4'?

From what I hear, it's just a terrible script with terrible set pieces.

Yeah, I didn't see the marathon either. I had to work at my job that night and once I heard the reviews and ratings on IMDb, and I lost interest in seeing it. Now, of course I'm going to see it, but not in theaters.
