From the official site:
The Mission: Stay tuned for your chance to be a part of this one-of-a-kind event. Check back here for more information on a secret mission soon.
Wonder what this will be?
I'm guessing there'll be some tie-in event, maybe something akin to The Shadow War, before the book is released. Maybe some sort of treasure hunt (like Cadburys did in the eighties) and the person to find the treasure gets a preview copy of the book?
Would picking the title really constitute a 'secret mission'?

Not sure it's the sort of thing they'd market for an adult book though - the title selection. I'm prepared to be wrong, though

Right, maybe choose the title ala Double or Die.
I seriously hope not. I got nothing bad to really say about Double or Die the book, but the title is ridiculous and I hate the idea of a generic title voted on by 'the fans' again. Write a good story, pick a title that is apt to the book and just give us that. I feel like 75% of the writing process for a James Bond novel these days (certainly the fan fiction - sorry) is coming up with a title regardless if it makes any sense. It's like the first thing they do and then craft a story around that. Devil May Care is an awesome title, but it doesn't mean jack in relation to the story. Fleming had great stories and great titles and they all made sense. Double or Die was one of the best YB books, maybe even the best, but the title is asinine. I'd like to avoid a repeat of that.

Charlie [Higson] did say that Project X is only half done. The first part is the announcement of Jeffrey Deavers as the new continuation author. The second part has yet to be announced, as of this writing.

Something else in the pipeline isn't exactly breaking news. Remember Mister Asterix's article said Higson said Project X could be one of two things? I suspect this is what he's referring to.

Perhaps the second part is something to do with the series at large: either that Deaver will write more tha one book, or that other big name authors will follow him with new novels at regular intervals? It would make sense to make such an announcement in advance of publication, as it would encourage people to invest in a series that will sustain...

No, not really. If there are more books from Deaver it would either be on a one-by-one basis, depending on the respective success of the entry, or a deal over 2-to-whatever books. If it's the former we'll only ever learn about it once X has got decent reviews and sales (and the next entry would still be a couple of years away then). If it's the latter it doesn't make sense to keep mum about it.
If further books from other big names are in the drain it would be not particularly good manners to announce them before Deaver's even has seen its first printing. Apart from that, it doesn't really have to be announced that IFP is aiming for reknowned writers to continue. It's self-evident by now.

I met Jeffrey Deaver last night at his book signing in Arlington, VA. He is a very nice and intelligent man. Funny too, and he knows his Fleming inside and out. He told a group of fans about the new book with some details about Bond, Moneypenny, "M" and Mary Goodnight. Plus the real surprise that will have some fans here loving it or hating it.

Did you find that he was excited about being a Bond writer? I hope he embraces it and is proud of it, unlike the last one seemed to be.

One of the first adult books he read, at age 8 or 9, was Moonraker. He is a huge fan of Fleming's work including his travelogue book Thrilling Cities. I don't want to give too much away from my interview but there will be some surprises that may shock some purest.

Oh my, what you've mentioned about what he's done with 'Penny, Mary and the others have me rather intrigued. Will we find out exactly what he said about them to you in this interview?
The biggest change is Bond himself.

Curious and curiouser. I've got a guess as to what it is, but I'm not sure so I'm going to keep quiet for the time being.

Maybe Bond doesnt smoke anymore...
You are absolutely correct with that point. Deaver will have him not smoking at all.

Well that's fair enough in this day and age, Bryce003 will be pissed about that though! I am not going to tell him.

Okay - my initial thought was that he was going to alter Bond's ethnicity from caucasian to something different, giving him an African, Indian or maybe even Arabic ethnicity.
Then it's not Bond, for me anyway. Smoking I can handle, it makes sense. Giving him different heritage is a step to far.
