Hmmm, not really much to go by, is there? Only scrap of a shadow of an idea of a possible clue would be the countdown, 28th of May 2010, 11.00 pm BST if I'm not mistaken. Strange, would have expected something closing on midnight.

Was aware of that; still isn't it ominous they start celebrations with just a single hour to go? I mean, why wasting 23 hours???

Here are a few guesses...

Wishful: John Gardner reprints

Realistic: New adult James Bond novel

Left Field: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang sequel

I think we can dicount the possibility of a connection to that pimp-my-Rolex venture of the same name.

Further I think we can discount an actual publishing*. It will most likely be an announcement, isn't it?

*Unless it's a project for an e-book reader. That might be possible to get to take off within such short notice. That would also make Gardner reprints much more likely; little actual effort and expense. It could even mean you might be able to acquire right on the spot.

"Awe, shucks, we had it all the time." Glidrose/IFP.

A James Bond Novel by a South African

Note, for those defending Benson because we English (boo, hiss) don't rate him. I'd welcome Jenkins, considerably.

Yeah, if PROJECT X is a new Bond novel this would be an announcement only because they wouldn't release a novel without any advance marketing.

Project X, that might also be picking up Young(er) Bond getting his training in an installation similar to Camp X.

Perhaps IFP bought the novelization rights to this 1987 classic?

I don't think whatever this is is called Project X. Think that's just a codename.

Recent experience shows that IFP's new projects generally have a long forerun. Announcements made with a separate countdown would suggest putting the fire firmly under the fan kettle. Somehow I think this indicates a new project (or at any rate a partially new one) rather than a mass-market edition of a book that already was published as highly priced luxury item.

How was that, back in 2007 with DMC or with Young Bond? Did IFP make our mouths water in a similar manner?

Ah yes, many thanks!

I thought I remembered something along those lines, just couldn't find the link right now. Strikes me as a similar M.O., doesn't it? 'Keep coming back here, you'll shortly learn more...' so forth, connected with Fleming's birthday. I just find it odd the countdown stops so late on the 28th. Almost as if it was for a theater play.

Does it stop late on the 28th? I show it stops right at the change of the day at 12AM.

But I don't think the exact time matters. Just check the site on the 28th.

How intriguing! And at last! Something to look forward to in the world of Bond!

I doubt it's a new publication, though some kind of announcement for that is almost overdue. It would be welcome, but I'm not convinced this is the announcement.

My guesses?

  • Are all the Fleming books available in e-book form? If not, could be that. Alternatively, it could be the Flemings available in Apple's iBooks store. Given the announcement date, I'm expecting something Fleming-centric.
  • Maybe we could be looking at an alternate reality game? Something like The Shadow War? Could be a good way to keep interest in the literary Bond stoked.
  • Perhaps an iPhone/iPad app?

Any other suggestions?

Fascinating; I'd agree that something like The Shadow War or -fingers crossed- a new book of some kind are more likely. I wouldn't call reprints a 'project'.

And it's unlikely to be anything to do with Chitty Bang when it has '007' in the logo! B)

Mayhaps Charlie Higson had his fingers crossed behind his back when he said there'd be a waiting period before more Young Bond...? B)

I tend to believe Charlie really is taking an extended break. But could it be some kind of Young Bond project that doesn't involve Charlie?

I highly doubt it's going to be an e-book announcement since there was no announcement when all 14 of Fleming's Bond novels became available in the Amazon Kindle Store in 2008.

I'd bet a lot of money that it's going to be an announcement for the next adult Bond novel.

Would IFP use the 007 logo to tease a Young Bond project though? Minor detail, but it does seem to point to something else.

Could be; something along the lines of the graphic novels- another adaptation. Perhaps an audio series?

But then I'm inclined to believe it isn't anything to do with Young Bond just because they've plonked their 007 logo in the 'PROJECT X' teaser image thing: Young Bond ain't 007.

Silverfin was announced in a similar way. Firt they announced a date when the news would be revealed so fans would be looking forward to that date. There was also an official announcement for DMC. My guess: new novel to appear either later this year or early in 2011. IFP managed to stretch YB until 2009 with the Dossier and wouldn't do to stay idle too long.

Based on the use of the logo, I'm going to guess we're getting a new paperback. On what I have no idea.
