Hiddleston would be an excellent choice!  I'd be for it.

I can totally picture Hiddlestone in a 50's set adaptation of Moonraker. He'd be perfect.

Looks more like Daniel Craig than the usual typical James Bond look.

Hiddleston does have an intriguing ability to show sardonic humour and cruelty.  Could work very well.

The thing I wonder is, will somebody raising his hand now even have a chance? I've only seen Hiddleston - consciously - in one of the Thor vehicles; of course his Loki is by far the most substantial and intriguing figure. Was he not in one of the Avengers too?

Anyway, he'd be a most interesting choice, giving off yet another vibe than Craig. I'd welcome him very much.

Edit: eliminated one e...

Yes, he was the villain in the first Avengers movie - but he has covered lots of ground in his many roles since then.

You should check out the upcoming Le Carré-adaptation "The Night Manager" in which he stars together with Hugh Laurie.

Hiddleston could definitely be on EON´s radar and stay there until it´s actually time to recast.

At 35 now he'd still have time. According to today's Guardian he's currently sixth with the bookies - there are Hardy and Elba still ahead of him, both of which I doubt somehow. I even think Hiddleston's built is not that far from Craig's at the time of Layer Cake. Though personally I would prefer if the next Bond didn't bulk up that much.

Actually I've been waiting some time for The Night Manager to be turned into a film, it's the most Bond-like of the le Carré novels. The trailer already looks promising and Hiddleston fits the character pretty good as far - as I can tell from here. There is an inner drama going on in Pine that seems tailored for an actor like him. And I can see him perfectly fine as Bond. Not conventionally handsome in a film star way, yet surely a ladies man and capable of turning nasty.

There's something stopping me seeing him as Bond and I haven't worked out what it is yet. Might be all of the 'Avengers fans' raving on about him as Loki when the movie came out that's put me off...

I can't really see him as Bond either.

Since he's thrown his hat in the ring at this early point in the process, though, thankfully we most likely don't have to worry about it happening.  The best way to ensure that you don't get a part in a Bond movie is to publicly state that you want a part in a Bond movie.

:D  I did think this when I read the article. Bad move Hiddleston!

To be fair on Hiddleston, he was probably asked about 007 and didn't invite himself there. It's just natural, he's starring in a supposedly very good le Carré adaptation, the setting and tone are not so far from Bond - it would be very odd if he hadn't been asked about Bond now. If Richard Burton had been born in 1976 and had just turned in his part in The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (yes, Burton was only 40 in that one...) they would have asked him too. And in today's media world chances are Burton wouldn't have told the scribes to go to h*** but the exact same stuff about what an opportunity that would be.

I think he'd be okay, too. I think he fits the good looking in a cruel, dark way description.

He does. He's also an excellent actor and capable of being very charming.

There are very few other candidates I'd like more.

He will certainly be under consideration by EON, regardless or even supported by articles like these.

I suppose he's interesting for his age, his profile and his acting abilities, the quality Eon will put the most emphasis on. At the time only very few saw Craig as Bond, it was one of the boldest moves they ever made to go with him. I think if they have to search for their next Bond they may again want to go with a bold choice.

He wouldn't be my first choice, but nonetheless Hiddleston is a good actor so he's a capable candidate for a screentest I guess.

Hiddleston wouldn't be my first choice either, but he absolutely fits the new Daniel Craig mold. Unlike most of the candidates, Hiddleston has a terrific range and can easily switch from cruel to charming. He does need to buff up a bit like Craig, but he's a terrific actor and could still be tempted to sign a three (or four) picture deal.

I still prefer Matthew Goode and Tom Cullen though.

I hadn't really considered Hiddleston before, but I'm basically converted. Not sure if he'd be my first pick, though. I think he has that wiry frame of Dalton, plus similar facial features. Plus, a similar intensity. He's effective as Loki in the Marvel universe. I'm on the record hoping Craig does one more, but I'm not that worried anymore about suitable replacements being out there.

Not sure if he's been mentioned before (apologies if he has) but Luke Evans would fit the bill in my opinion.

Regarding Hiddleston, after seeing him in Coriolanus and The Night Manager, he is definitely my first choice. He would be brilliant. Besides, I´ve heard he´s about the nicest guy on earth. And the guy would bring a massive fan base. Have you guys seen his Coriolanus, the play in the National Theatre? Very dark, bloody even.

If the conservative end of Bond fandom were up in arms over the suggestion of a black actor being cast, what would they make of Evan's sexual orientation? Be interesting to see that fallout from that.

I don't think his sexuality should come into it - he's an actor after all. Employed to play a character that is not himself. But I do agree, would be interesting to see the response this would recieve.

Actually - I don't think there would be much outcry. It's reasonably certain only a minimal fracture of the audience, hardly in the parts-per-million range, will ever end up in a situation where they could believably claim to be directly influenced by Evans' sexuality either way. Of course, people do have fantasies, can't be helped, it's just human. There may be a couple of 'fans' who simply cannot stop obsessing about the object of their dreams. But we've always had that, with any actor. Sooner or later they come down from it.

Or they end up somewhere else...

It is just a question of who Barbara Broccoli happens to fancy. She fancies Craig, as she has never been shy to show, and he was cast. She is the one who makes the decision, not us.
