Yeah, after a few days I signed on with over 200 notifications and a topic that went off track because of someone calling Craig Putin.
Anyways, in the words of Brosnan's Bond
"Let's get down to business, shall we?"
Posted 27 January 2015 - 07:21 PM
The matter having been dealt with by those of us on the team, indeed A of Spies (forgive my abbreviation of your screen name) but action needed to be taken. Fine, some people like Craig and others don't, but don't ramble on for 30+ pages.
In the nearly 15 years of CBn we reserve the right to agree to disagree as is the nature of a discussion forum such as we have happily set about. Some people get it and some do NOT.
Right then! Carry on and I do thank all members for being as cordial as you could despite someone's rants.
Nature of the beast with all of us excited with both the new film and novel this year.
Now...
*pulls hand brake on the "Bastardized" Bentley*
Next Bond.
I'll stick to my own above statement, but in the "Here & now" realm of things, some good choices IMO. But truly, let's bring it back up in 2018 and go with the above modicums.
Cheers all.

Attempting to, for a second time, get this thread back on track, here's a mockup of Rupert Friend as Bond. Perhaps it belongs more in the fan art thread, and I'm more than happy to delete it if it's not deemed appropriate for displaying in this thread, but I thought it turned out pretty well:
Rupert Friend as Ian Fleming's James Bond 007
I think he'd be a fine choice. I Googled him further, and his face reminds me of a Dalton/Moore mix. He's currently 33 years old too, which makes him suitable for the part.

The "ignore" function of the forum software, which has already proven itself to be a wonderful tool, might be the best option.

Isn't he Agent 47? Wouldn't that be a bit strange?

His voice is... um... high.

Agent 47 is going to flop and there almost certainly won't be a follow up, so it's not going to be something that he's going to be committed to in the long term, I don't think. He does come across quite well in the opening bit of the trailer that's just been released, so I still have yet to see anything that would dissuade me from making him my top choice to replace Craig.

He looks more bond than Craig. He's looks too effete. Brozza Mk. 2.
Even though I'm the one that's been pushing Friend as Bond, I'd have to disagree with that.
I do think that, combining the fact that he gave a terrific reading for the part prior to Casino Royale, his acting ability, and his generally looking the part make him a rather viable contender for the role when Craig hangs it up. Considering he gave such a good reading that he made it a point that he was just as viable a possibility as Henry Cavill (this according to the article CBn did some time ago on the search for Bond #6) makes me very curious to see what he could do in the role.

Is Dornan already too famous to play 007, what you guys think???
No, I wouldn't say so - plus I don't believe they'll cast a complete unknown as the next Bond, given the fact they can now lure fairly established names to the franchise.
I've not seen Dornan in anything particular, so not quite sure he'd be the best man for the job anyway. I don't think he can be ruled in or out based purely on FIFTY SHADES OF GREY.

Apparently the sequels to Fifty Shades have already been commissioned, so depending on how long they take to film, he may be tied into that franchise.

I thought the same when he was known for costume dramas, but HOMELAND proved me wrong. He can certainly do the whole action thing, particularly in the mould of Craig's Bond.
I thought the same until i saw this:
All that great work he did in Homeland undone by one s***ty low rent action flick. This will do him no favours in the Eon camp.
Posted 12 February 2015 - 04:01 PM
I don't see how that would undo all the good work he's done on Homeland. Yes, Agent 47 looks horrible, but it's not like he's the only actor who has appeared in bad films. Brosnan's film resume prior to Bond was very hit or miss. If EON didn't hold The Lawnmower Man against Pierce Brosnan, they're not going to hold HItman: Agent 47 against Friend, especially with the excellent work he's doing on Homeland and the fact that he's already given one very good reading for the role of Bond.
It's not like Agent 47 was thought to be some masterpiece until the trailer was released and it's not as though Friend is the one dragging down an otherwise good film. I think everyone signed onto Agent 47 knowing what it would be.

I have to say, after seeing the trailer for "The Man from U.N.C.L.E", Henry Cavill looks like he'd make a very convincing Bond.
Posted 12 February 2015 - 07:40 PM
I had the opposite reaction to The Man from U.N.C.L.E. trailer. I thought he looked pretty wooden, as he generally does, albeit a bit less so than he did in Man of Steel.

Well, that extremely exaggerated American accent sure doesn't help.

"Tied into" Fifty Shades?! Nicely done.

I agree. I wasn't all that impressed either, and I'm so glad Craig has the role instead.

Pierce Brosnan has given his backing to Idris Elba to be a potential James Bond, whilst also praising Daniel Craig's portrayal.
http://www.radiotime...good-james-bond
"Daniel has made his mark gloriously," the Hollywood veteran tells Radio Times. Asked whether Luther star Idris Elba would make a good Bond, Brosnan continues, "Yeah, he would actually. Colin Salmon also. May the best man get the job and may Daniel bring home the bacon for as long as he wants."
Posted 18 February 2015 - 01:22 AM
It's adorable that he's still plugging Colin Salmon, who must be in his mid-fifties by now.

I concur, always like Salmon as an actor and his small role in the Bond franchise as Robinson.

Its about time Bond was played by a Yorkshire man. I'm available .
Posted 19 February 2015 - 05:34 AM
I just saw Fifty Shades of Grey. Dornan in now off my list for a potential Bond. I was expecting him to have a much better impact!
Posted 19 February 2015 - 05:49 AM
Not that Dornan is anywhere near the top of my list of choices to take over as Bond, I think it's a bit harsh to judge him based on Fifty Shades of Grey. There's not an actor in the world who could turn in a decent performance with material that bad.
