What about another Daniel of our acquaintance, who was asked - after his first franchise wrapped - "what's next for you? Harry Bond?"
That would mark the end of my Bond fandom. He's terrible.

No way. Besides. Radcliffe can be Tanner

I believe that both Kit Harington and Richard Madden are certainly on Eon's radar for the future bond.

They look like cavemen.

Still hoping that Rupert Friend continues to be on EON's radar when Craig hangs it up after Bond 25. According to a story on this very site back when they were casting for Casino Royale, Friend gave a very good audition and he'll be just about the right age for it when Craig hangs things up sometime in the next four years.

Friend would be great. He seems to have been grown in a lab specifically to play Bond. (Come to think of it, that could be the next four-film arc.)

I'm still thinking Henry Cavill will be the front runner for Bond 7. He was nearly cast in 2005, but was far too young. He'll be 35 or 36 by the time Bond 26 is in production: 2019 or 2020. He's repeatedly expressed his interest in the role and I don't his role as Superman will have any bearing on whether he is cast as James Bond or not.
Posted 15 December 2014 - 01:56 PM
No, but Cavill's success in the last ten years has priced him out of the market. He's way too expensive to be hired to play James Bond. So is Tom Hardy and all the other guys that the major entertainment outlets keep mentioning. Why should the studio pay huge gobs of money to a massive star when they can hire a far cheaper actor who'd be every bit as good? Just ask Clive Owen. He demanded profit points, so EON rejected him. Cavill is a bigger star today that Clive Owen was back in 2004.

I can't see Cavill being a contender for Bond 26. Superman is going to be a major obstacle in the way of him becoming Bond.

Here's a name that I haven't seen mentioned here: James Frecheville. He's an Australian actor born in 1991, so he's too young to succeed Craig, but I think he's someone to keep in mind for Bond 8. He earned praise in 2010 for a role in a film called Animal Kingdom, but he's still rather obscure outside of Australia. I haven't seen him in anything but a few interviews on YouTube, but I like his looks and his demeanor.
Wow, I think he looks really Bondian, especially in a Craig/Dalton kind of way. It's hard to believe he is only 23 years old. He comes off as much older and mature, at least judging by his pictures and the few youtube videos (and most of those are of him 4 years ago). I think he actually comes off as more manly than some of these other actos in their thirties being thrown around in this thread. I don't know, if there is a longer gap than normal after the next film, he could be a contender, in my opinion. Especially if they do kind of a reboot with a young Bond at or more near the beggining of his career. I think by the time this guy is in his late 20s he would come off as someone in his 30's on the screen.
I haven't seen any of his movies, but it looks like he great really positive reviews for his role in Animal Kingdom. Some other pictures:

Animal Kingdom is a terrific film and Frecheville was great in it. I could see him possibly being on EON's radar.
For me, Dan Stevens is my go to guy to be Craig's successor. Having only seen him in just two films, I think he's a great actor, and he was awesome in The Guest. He's very charismatic in it. He has a very cold stare and piercing blue eyes like Craig. He looks great with light or dark hair and have him bulk up just a bit, and I think he'd be great for Bond.

Who were the actors that did the screentest for CR ? I think I read that, Cavill and Purefoy were there? Is it true ?

Cavill was offered or nearly offered the role, if I remember correctly. I think Martin Campbell wanted him in lieu of Craig, but the producers felt that Henry Cavill was too young at 22. I'm not sure about Purefoy.
Frecheville has the classic Bond look that Ian Fleming described in the novels (as does Cavill). I could see Frecheville in the running for Bond 8, but somehow I don't know that the producers would be too keen on casting another Aussie as Bond.

The rumours say the final three were Craig, Henry Cavill and Sam Worthington. Goran Visnjic was also there or thereabouts as well.
Friend would be great. He seems to have been grown in a lab specifically to play Bond.
Very true, and he'd be 35-37 at the presumed end of Craig's era, which would be ideal.

I agree that Friend seems like a very capable choice for Bond

Thanks to this series of Homeland he's almost up there with Hardy and Dan Stevens.

My favorites at the moment are Dan Stevens, Rupert Friend and Henry Cavill.

Obviously i agree with the first 2 - excellent choices.
I was keen on Cavil until Superman and in particular The Cold Light of Day (the latter is a very poor movie, but that's no excuse for Cavil being wooden. However he could be yet to develop his acting chops and if he did he'd be perfect, no doubt.

Didn't Naomi Harris let it slip that Elba is Barbara Broccoli's choice as well, and that he's already been approached? I recall reading that somewhere around the time of Skyfall's release.
I think he'd be a great choice; be interesting to see what he can do with Bond.
ETA:

"Now, Skyfall star Naomie Harris has had her say on the matter, and reveals that Elba has already met with producer Barbara Broccoli to discuss the possibility.
“I didn't realise that there was this talk and then I did a film with Idris and he said that he met Barbara Broccoli and that it does seem like there is a possibility in the future that there could very well be a black James Bond," says Harris."

I seen that too. Once Craig is done he'll be to old.
Posted 21 December 2014 - 07:47 AM
Idris Elba really is terrific actor, and I can see him as Bond. The probably is, he's already in his forty's, and by the time Craig finishes up his era, whether it ends with Spectre or Bond 25, Elba will already be the same or close to the age from when Moore Started, or possibly even older. Yes, we got seven films out of Moore, but times are different now, and we'd possibly get no more then two, maybe three films out of Elba, which is a shame, since if he was younger, he could really shape the character into his own.

Not this stupid s#it again...
It's being reported in the mainstream media, BBC News, The Telegraph, The Independent, The Express, The Washington Times, MTV etc - It's not just a rehash of an old rumour, it's something that's being reported currently so it has a place being brought up here - it's not just some "stupid s#it", it's being based on new information that has come to light.

It's not 'stupid S***' to report it, but imo it is stupid S*** to endorse it.
With an increasing number white actors out there screaming potentially good Bond (Dan Stevens, Hardy, Friend) it's pretty much positive discrimination and calculated marketing aimed at an untapped ethnic audience to cast a black man who'll be too old when the time comes.
The character has no ethnic relevance or story to tell, so the approach would be to not really play on the colour, but rather that the colour doesn't matter, which makes you ask 'why cast a black Bond at all, then?'
The answer is not that he's the most suitable actor (he's too old), or that it's time we had a black Bond (NOT playing the colour card in the script would be the only way to do it without forever changing Fleming's interpretation).
What's left is marketing/finance departments doing research that suggests an increase in revenue by tapping into that marginalised ethnic audience, i.e. good old fashioned greed. Movie execs sure know how to kill a franchise.
Btw, I look forward to the uproar at Brad Pitt playing Shaft.

There was no endorsement, but the fact that it was discussed by the movie executives gives it newsworthy merit to be brought up.

Exactly. I don't have have a problem with a Black Bond, especially played by an actor like Idris Elba, but he is indeed too old. While 42 doesn't seem old, He most certainly won't be 42 when Craig steps down.

Sony Pictures' co-chairman Amy Pascal has the next James Bond in mind, Idris Elba.
