Shame.
Well there's no accounting for the tastes of the masses.
Too bad...

Shame.
Since the main part of the pop-music audience consists of teenagers, who are not into slow, traditionally arranged moody ballads without a rapper or a teen idol behind it, one must consider the charting of this song a huge success.

And now the depression settles in
Tastless buch of borderline little freaks, they are. And it´s not even their fault. It´s their bloody parents who messed up, afraid of confusing orientation with fascism. Left them to their own designs. They don´t even rebel anymore because there´s nothing to rebel against, only invisible landlords. Rant over. Summary: bad parenting=bad music taste

Why does the poll jump from "Definitely up there with the greats" to "Not too bad". Why nothing in between? Say, "okay to fairly good" or "agreeable but nothing great"?

Question for the moderator or whoever cobbled together that poll:
Why does the poll jump from "Definitely up there with the greats" to "Not too bad". Why nothing in between? Say, "okay to fairly good" or "agreeable but nothing great"?
+1 ... I noticed the same inexplicable gap and I'm sure others have as well.

I haven't actually gone on record without my thoughts about the song since it came out practically. In short, I think it's great for a Bond theme, and I thoroughly enjoy listening to it, and continue to do so on a daily basis. As with any song, there's never going to be a unanimous consensus reached - music is perhaps the most divisive of all art forms (I'm sure some people would like nothing better than a heavy metal Bond theme) - but I don't find much in the song to disappoint me. Some of the strings in the later part of the song are great, and I was hoping that they could be built into one of the score's action cues, but it appears not. Perhaps Adele could have thrown her voice more at the song, but I have no real complaints. Securing one of the world's leading artists is no mean feat in itself, and it's also given the film's publicity a bonus boost around the world.
As a disclaimer, Adele isn't exactly my sort of music, as I'm into alternative, synth and classic rock (The Killers, Muse, Bruce Springsteen) but as a piece of theme music for a James Bond movie, I think it ticks most of the necessary boxes.

So you're the guy who kept it from going to number one in the charts. How dare you!
If only I had that much power over the title song.

Has anyone noticed that all three songs from the Craig era thus far have sounded pretty much the same? Try slowing down the chorus melody to "You Know My Name" in your head and singing it over the chorus of Adele's song, or visa versa. Not much of a difference, really. The opening guitar riff from "Another Way To Die" sounds similar to the other two, as well.

You know she's definitely capable of pulling out all the stops during the last minute or so of the song but she seems to be reigning herself in for some reason.
I was curious as to this as well. I'm not a fan of Adele's music, but I know that she can belt out a tune much more forcefully than what "Skyfall" ultimately delivers.
Do we know when she actually recorded the song? I was thinking that perhaps it could have been something to do with her pregnancy?

She was spotted at Abbey Road in September, which led to suggestions that was when the recording was done. If so, she would have been heavily pregnant. I don't know whether that would have affected her ability or desire to go for big notes, but sure there's a chance.Do we know when she actually recorded the song? I was thinking that perhaps it could have been something to do with her pregnancy?

They all got the same bass line too, outlining a minor triad. B>G>E in YKMN and AWTD and C-Ab-F in SF. The later just transposed up a semitone.
Was that intentional? Someone will have to ask Paul Epworth on Twitter.

Doesn't "okay to fairly good" and "agreeable but nothing great" mean exactly the same thing as "not too bad?"
Not at all. While I wouldn't have gone with any of those choices ... "not too bad" begs the question ... well, then just how bad is it?
They could have gone with "great" "good" and "poor" and learned more than the current poll .. and as someone rightly mentioned the difference between "I Love it" and "One of the greats" is too minor to discuss ... matter of fact, I'd suggest "one of the greats" sounds higher on the pecking order, if anything.

Thanks, Shark. I was hoping someone with superior musical acumen would be able to better articulate the point I was trying to make.
