Madonna's song get some unnecessary hate... I really liked it at the time, it set the mood of the beginning of the film. Slightly different and more of a pop song of course.
I understand most of the older generation dislike it ( I know some younger fan dislike it as well!) or even the idea of madonna doing the song, but hell I think it wasn't too bad.

Madonna is 54 ... so she's one of the "older generation." That is, unless you're referring to someone in their 70's and I'd suggest that they don't post here enough for you to get an effective sample on.

Perspective does come with exploring films. There are new Bond fans that have only seen the latest Bond films and haven't yet explored the older catalog. This is as it should be as we all start from some point and move on from there, gaining perspective along the way. It's also natural for some fans to draw a special bond (no pun intended) to the films and music that made a impression on you when you're young. However, when a youngster loves an old theme song and a oldster loves a new song ... obviously those song have added traction.

Who was the director of SKYFALL video? DO we have any readings of the inner cloudy surrealistic images?

From someone who can remember seeing "From Russia With Love" in the cinema, I really like this theme song for "Skyfall." It is definately a mood-setter.

Woah!! You watched FRWL in the cinema!

Yes, I was 5 years old, been hooked ever since, ha-ha. I can still smell the popcorn.

Its great to see the older generation still hooked to Bond
I started liking Bond since my dad watched every movie from his time in the theater ,He was a huge fan , He bought the entire collection on VHS and then DVD as soon as it was available, I never really cared of Bond before, As soon as Casino Royale was released my dad couldn't watch it in the theater so he anyway bought the DVD , I remmember him telling me that was the worst Bond movie he had watched and Daniel Craig is a Brute killer not suave as Bond should be , I couldnt care less, Later when there was 2 months left to the release of QOS I was terribly bored and I thought why not watch my dads Casino Royale DVD .After watching it I thought to myself that was the best movie I have ever watched ! Of course as my name sugests my opinion changed after watching QOS

she comes across as another moaning cow

That's exactly what I thought when first hearing it. I hate this current trend in female singers. It seems they all attend the same school where they all learn to moan with a drawling voice.

That was one of my reasons not to want to like her as a choice, her way of singing - it's not oomph singing, it's more drawn out dreary and long notes held together.

I wasn't aware there is a video for the song yet, just a promotional piece with footage from the film and the generic art styles for the lyrical video.

I may be wrong of course...

It doesn't help that I'm not a very big Adele fan - she comes across as another moaning cow - of the 'all men are to blame for everything' school. I for one don't care to hear of her relationships etc., but it seems that the rest of the world does, so what would I know, eh?

I'm no Adele expert, but the only moaning I'm hearing is coming from you guys. Maybe this will cheer you up.

Not a dig at Adele's weight, more a poke at the odd rhymes she's chosen.

This is the end
The meal is over once again
I've cleaned the plates of food and then
I hear my fridge o-pen-ing

For its back again
My hungry eyes need more again
My mouth agrees, it's opening
Shove it down, I'm starving

Watching Skyfall,
Stomach rumbles,
Mr Bumble,
Can have more forever

Watching Skyfall
I'll eat trifle,
Apple Crumble,
Eat them both together at Skyfall

Trifle is where I start,
A thousand bowls upon the cart,
When moods are low and things look dark,
You may know my dress size,
You can weigh my shame,
The calories, my heart!

(Chorus)

Argh. I missed the word 'I' out of a line.
"Can I have more, forever"
It's a reference to Oliver Twist asking Mr Bumble for more....

Guess I'll add my two cents. I like this Adele song, I do, but it took several plays for me to really warm up to it. First thing I thought when I heard it was: this is a little too slow and somber. Especially with that first line... "This is the end...".

Interestingly enough, first time I heard Muse's Supremacy I fell in love with the song. No additional plays required. It's amazing.

I'm breaking radio silence here to say that I don't think it's one of the best, but it's not too bad either. The start and ending of it reminds one rather of Diamonds Are Forever, just as 'Another Way to Die' (which I prefer) reminds me of 'The Man with the Golden Gun'. It doesn't help that I'm not a very big Adele fan - she comes across as another moaning cow - of the 'all men are to blame for everything' school. I for one don't care to hear of her relationships etc., but it seems that the rest of the world does, so what would I know, eh?

Also, great to see some older JB fans on here! CBn is such a great place, and I just can't stay away, but I must for a little while anyway...for the sake of the future of my blog!

See you all soon...

[returns to radio silence].

When you become a Bond fan..especially like I was at a very early age(and fortunate to have been here for all 50 years), it stays with you and doesn't let go.
I am more excited for Skyfall than any Bond film since I was a teenager. Let's face it, Bond brings out the child in all of us. At 57, I still want to be him, atlhough I don't think
my wife would approve! I know 007 helps keep me young at heart.........
How lucky we Bond fans are to have 23 films, 50 years and STILL going strong..no other movie franchise can even come close to that.....
Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now.......

By the way, I do like Adele's Skyfall a lot............

It's interesting when people saying no other franchise had lasted as long...
Godzilla just had his 58th birthday and film #30 in 2014, all either made by it licensed from Toho Productions. Tarzan had a steady stream of 40+ movies from 1918 to 1968 with twenty-odd lead actors and some unofficial versions all based on same novels. Don't even get me started on Sherlock Holmes or Dracula. Bond has had a bigger impact in a shorter amount of time but he has a long way to go before he makes as many film appearances as any of the above.

Well, I think people usually mean a continuous franchise. Bond movies are made, and have been made, consistently since they began in the 60s. In contrast, is there another Tarzan movie? When? Is there any consistency between the movies?

There is a difference between a "franchise" and a "character," I think. Yes, there have been many adaptations of the Sherlock Holmes CHARACTER, but that is different than a long-running franchise such as Star Wars, Trek, or Bond.

And to add to the distinction. Bond is the only franchise that has been more or less run by the same group of people. Granted we're onto the second generation as far as the producing is concerned. It's still been kept in the family (so far).

Not sure I agree with this sir.

Reinventions of a character by different companies for different media does not a franchise make.
