Then the reality sets in that we're all extremely biased Bond fans.

I'm in love with the intro (well, I love the whole song too), the first 30 seconds are just sublime. The reason I'm so excited concerning the intro, is since we have Kleinman back doing the titles we're guaranteed and awesome segue into the titles. I was a tad disappointed with Quantum that the song started on what was essentially a freeze frame of Craig.

Anyone else love the Barry-esque horns at the start and finish? I wonder if that hints at what Newman has in store for us.

Yes, absolutely adore them! And yes, I do hope so.

Yes, me too, although that first frame of Bond firing the gun was rather cool.

I really like it! Definitely an improvement over 'Another Way to Die' and on par with 'You Know My Name' and miles better then most of the Brosnan era theme songs.

Oh screw the Guardian readers haha.

The very worst you could say is that it's "good". I actually think the bit that begins with the line "where you go I go" is the most gorgeously Bondian thing I've heard in years without being kitsch or pastiche.

I would, however, lose those backing singers, although after about 5 listens I think I've made my peace with them.

A bunch (90% at least) of people on YouTube loved it. Honestly, I'd say that's more accurate.

One of my favourite bits is the middle 8 ("Where you go I go..."). Some lovely string writing there, interesting harmonies (finally escapes the Bond theme), and the melody's it as its most lyrical.

That would work very well in the score.

I guess the backing singers are there to add a 'rolling in the deep' element to the song... And the Bond theme and other Bond cues to remind us it is a Bond song. A bit lazy, I would say...

Not too bad overall... but I'm a bit underwhelmed, I guess... I didn't find it edgy, interesting or sexy enough... People compare it to DAF, but there was this innuendo in the lyrics and the performance that made DAF a lot better than SF...

I still think Adele was the right choice, though... Great voice, and not old-fashioned, just retro, which has been fashionable in pop music for the last few years.

Adele claimed she read the script before she wrote the song. I hope the melancholic tune has more to do with her style of music rather than with the tone of the film, I can't stand another QoS-type depressing psycological analysis... JB are supposed to be feel-good films. Suspence-full, action-packed, sophisticated, feel-good thrillers.

Comments on news sites are probably top 5 worst places to try and find a good sampling of honest opinions, in my opinion.

LOL..Well if I recall correctly...the numbers "were not exactly on it's side" in terms of thumbs up vs thumbs down.. Skyfall seems to be getting raves across the board here...well with the exception of a couple of dislikes.

I voted Not Too Bad. I don't think it is up there with the greats, but I do think it sounds lovely. I think Casino Royale is still better, but I think it also depends how it is in the movie too.

Apart from watching the trailers I've managed to remain spoiler-free so far, but I guess the song reveals things about the story, has a special meaning after the PTS and before the main body of the film, and supports the story-telling in a way similar to DAD... I guess those of you who know what happens in the script know if my assumption is correct. I'll wait until I see the film to find out. If I am, though, this might account for the melancholic theme...

Go to bed Vaux! Early rise and all...the song will still be around for you to download tomorrow morning!

Self control won over! Up again now, and am even more impressed with the full version. Definitely a very strong entry in the Bond song canon.

I really like this, and I'm not even that big of an Adele fan. In fact I think it's better than I expected it to be. Yet another boost to the Craig era!

A bit disappointed. I had expected more of a grand sweep, more high notes maybe. It's not a song I will remember as a classic, even though I usually like Adele. I can't say it's one of the worst, it's just one of the less impressive.
Still, it's the movie that matters the most. If that one is as great as it looks in the trailers, then there is no problem.

The track is already up to number three on the UK iTunes chart. Looks like it could do extremely well in the UK singles chart on Sunday, despite only having 48 hours of online sales to be considered.

Also, my largely unscientific tracker of online mentions of the word "Skyfall" is moving at an entirely unprecedented pace. Dozens of hits per second. :)

Despite not being a fan of this theme -- I must admit, now it's stuck in my head. Which is actually rather frustrating.

I'm reading all these replys and question whether im listening to the same song as everyone else. now granted it took like 3 times hearing it to forgive the background singers, but everything in this song works for a bond movie and it will fit perfectly into the movie. I dont want to sound like Adele can do no wrong, but shes done just that in this song. we havent had a singer do a song like this since Garbage and TWINE, which in my opinion was the best one since TLD. Once this song hits the movie it will be given its due. i think some people are taking un-substantiated stances on this song. there are only a handful of songs that are better than this one at being a Bond song. top 10? absolutely. top 5? stretching it because of the excellence preceding it. to make a long story short, I LOVE IT!

Well, it's nice. Bit samey, like polo shirts in summer. But nice, sure. Should have made their mind up about whether to go with a singer or a choir.
