Instead of QOTSA, perhaps Them Crooked Vultures - Homme, Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones himself - would be a better choice. They're a lot more diverse than QOTSA.

They're a bit less interesting and 'real' than QOTSA; I'd take the Black Keys over either of them, but they'd still be good. Just might be a bit too much like the last two songs; they should probably move away from the American rock heroes thing for this one.

I could see that working as a Bond theme itself ... but a quick check of her Wikipedia page shows that it's a part of a concept album. After Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto, Madonna's American Life and the disasterpiece itself, Metallica and Lou Reed's Lulu, I have an aversion to pretentious crap.

So although the song itself might be good, you're going to discount it because it has the label 'concept' on it? That's not a very intelligent reason.

No, I'm discounting it because one of her songs is on a concept album, and - as I said in an earlier post - another one of her songs feels like it was written to try and bring back a style of music that has faded from the public consciousness. Neither inspires much confidence in me.

Although I don't know the inner workings of Janelle Monae's head, I'm pretty fairly that wasn't the reason.

Being a fan of his music, I would love to see Michael Buble perform the theme song for Skyfall. I think he would be able to pull it off.

That would be as lame as having Cliff Richard do it.

Only 3 options in my book...

Adele
Cee-Lo Green
Michael Buble

....or why not bring Shirley Bassey back again?

Thinking completely "outside the box" they should get a Female singer new to the business to perform the Title song.
I would have strongly suggested Rumer at one time but as she has already done the Theme to Johnny English - Reborn may I now suggest.........

Ren Harvieu

Have a listen to her debut single - "Through The Night"

That didn't change the meaning of your words I quoted, though. I isolated them to underline how ridiculous your statement was.

The rest of your post talks about how you dislike a song based on the idea of it being in an old style. Another weird statement in a thread talking about Bond songs: pretty much the most retro bunch of songs out there.

I just googled "similar artists to Madonna" because she did the 40th annivrsary not that it would have anything to do with the skyfall theme http://www.last.fm/m...adonna/+similar
but anyway J.Lo was on their so i had to mention that I also found this short list of top 10 artists of 2012 http://www.10topten....ingers-in-2012/
Of the short list I could see anyone of them really doing a bond theme song but not skyfall except for
J.Lo because of American Idol and Shakira because of her 2010 FIFA theme song, not very good reasons why I guess i have a soft spot for "waiting for tonight" by J.Lo and waka waka by Shakira
The first song that I find of Thomas Newman and a popular artist is from the 2011 movie "Help,"...maybe it will sound something like that? Not that I think it will be Mary J.Blige

Just a quick thought, So far some if not all of us are good to know that Thomas Newman is doing the music. Decent choices among us all here for who should perform the title song for "Skyfall".

How about Randy Newman perform the title song!

Yes, it did, actually. Not liking a song on the basis that it was part of a concept album may be a ridiculous idea - on its own. But not liking a song on the basis of it being a concept album in conjunction with not liking another song or another reason is not.

The rest of your post talks about how you dislike a song based on the idea of it being in an old style.

Once again, you twist my words. Please stop doing it. I really didn't like it. My reasons for not liking these songs are much more complex than you make them out to be.

The reason why I did not like that other song was not because "it was in an old style". I did not like that song because the first thing I thought of when I heard it was some record producer saying "Hey, music from the 1940s is old, and old is retro, and retro is cool, and cool songs sell well so let's bring back the style of the 1940s because it will be popular".

It is, actually. You're still saying you don't like it because it's on a concept album whether or not you dress anything on top. It's a stupid reason. It's like saying 'I don't like him because he's Belgian and he broke my window'. Whether or not there's another reason on top, you can't say you don't like someone because they're Belgian: it's arbitrary and makes you look stupid.
You can't just say 'or another reason' and expect me to respect that. It's mindless.

Then try to express that. People will take your reasoning to be moronic if you present it in that style.

The reason why I did not like that other song was not because "it was in an old style". Well that's your problem, isn't it? What you imagine in your head is a rubbish basis to dismiss an artist on. What's wrong with artists picking an aesthetic?

Sorry if you feel I'm being a bit harsh on you Tightpants, but frankly you've been being a bit of a dick on these boards for a while now and I'm a bit tired of it.

What about Carrie Underwood? I think see has a Bond-esque voice (even though she's a country singer), she proves so with her song "Cowboy Casanova".

Anyone here want a theme like "The Man with the Golden Gun"? I'd love a theme that's larger than life, and that really gets me excited and pumped for a Bond film.

They have to choose one of the biggest musicians/singers out at the moment. Although these are some really good suggestions they have no hope in hell of making it to skyfall for the bond theme.

Its gotta be Adele this time around doesn't it? Great voice, British (helps slightly), and shes just coming off a MASSIVE album thats number 1 all around the world. I'm sure if they get her to with the help of a few others to write a song and sing it she will do a phenomenal job.

And it would also probably hit the charts and do well (not that's needed or important in this day and age but it would be cool to have a bond theme in the top ten).

Lana del Rey? Her song Video Game sounds more like a Bond theme than Born to Die. I think she'd be a great contender. She's not overly popular, and she makes splendid music, instead of stereotypical pop songs.

That sounds much more Bond-esque, I think the recording sounds more Bondish than the live version, though.

She's probably too green to be on the producers' radar. Objectively, she's the sort of singer who would sing a Bond theme, but she hasn't garnered enough exposure and validation from the right quarters. Her career might well follow a trajectory that will make her a good prospect for a Bond theme, but right now she's unproven and very "internetty".
