Sadly this is probably true, but I still think modern audiences would still be more familiar with McCartney than Chris Cornell and, more arguably, Jack White. Most modern audiences would probably have no idea who McCartney is.
I seriously think the time is right for McCartney to return. As it is a big Bond anniversary, using McCartney would be a link to the past without it being pastiche.

Although, as some have suggested , Michael Buble would be an excellent choice for runner up.

Sorry for causing a stir chaps! My only reason for Duran Duran was I do think they are credible as musicians, not to the younger ones anymore (I'm only 26, mind) but they do produce quality music and I think a theme from them may pop into the Top 10 or 20 in charts, but I think it would be warmly recieved if they create a song as rich as 'Surrender' from TND, or even as rocky as 'You Know My Name' from CR.
I think they could pull it off, and yes...I do happen to love 'A View To A Kill' but that was a cracking song regardless as a simple 'Bond' theme.
Love and hugs to all!
My other idea mind you was Sir Cliff Richard but I'll leave that one...!

I think people underestimate John Barry's contribution to AVTAK. Nevertheless as The Man Who Stole A Leopard proves, they've still got something.
Indeed, Barry was very involved in AVTAK and it shows. The song and the score benefited. It's a very unique song in that it is a powerful, driven theme that was also used as a beautiful melody elsewhere in the score.

About Duran Duran, I met them twice some years ago and asked John and Simon at the time about their experience working on AVTAK, with the Broccoli camp and so on.
I'm sure that they'd be honored to be called to task once again. "You Know My Name" from CR would have been much more memorable in their hands.

I mean if they had two performers on the last title song why not do McCartney and Bassey? You could even throw in Duran Duran if you really wanted to. But really McCartney and Bassey could make a pretty classic Bond theme together.
We're not doing BondAid here!

I enjoyed the powerhouse voices like Shirley Bassey and Tina Turner. It really seems to set the tone for the movie when you hear them sing.

Vertigo was one of the most meaningless U2 songs ever written (and by their own admission, they were probably drunk when they did it). It's from the time when U2 were trying way too hard to be edgy and recapture the Achtung Baby feel.
Still, U2 would make a great choice for the next Bond theme.

I don't want some dreary song like Adele would do..blurgh, can't stand her...or a song that drags on a bit and doesn't get going, like 'Moonraker'.
