I seriously think the time is right for McCartney to return. As it is a big Bond anniversary, using McCartney would be a link to the past without it being pastiche.

Most modern audiences would probably have no idea who McCartney is.

Sadly this is probably true, but I still think modern audiences would still be more familiar with McCartney than Chris Cornell and, more arguably, Jack White.

As I've previously stated in a different discussion, I feel that this film, being a golden anniversary for the series as well as an homage and a return to (from what we're being told) to the classic cinema Bond, deserves none other than Dame Shirley Bassey to grace us with her golden pipes once more.
Although, as some have suggested , Michael Buble would be an excellent choice for runner up.

As always, your brother from Langley

Did I mention I would love Duran Duran to do it?

Sorry for causing a stir chaps! My only reason for Duran Duran was I do think they are credible as musicians, not to the younger ones anymore (I'm only 26, mind) but they do produce quality music and I think a theme from them may pop into the Top 10 or 20 in charts, but I think it would be warmly recieved if they create a song as rich as 'Surrender' from TND, or even as rocky as 'You Know My Name' from CR.

I think they could pull it off, and yes...I do happen to love 'A View To A Kill' but that was a cracking song regardless as a simple 'Bond' theme.

Love and hugs to all!

My other idea mind you was Sir Cliff Richard but I'll leave that one...!

I think people underestimate John Barry's contribution to AVTAK. Nevertheless as The Man Who Stole A Leopard proves, they've still got something.

I would love to hear one of the performers who have given us some iconic songs do another for this 50th anniversary. It's a shame that because someone is past a certain age, or not at the top of the pop charts, they are considered has beens. Tom Jones, Duran Duran, Sir Paul and Dame Shirley have all put out music recently that has been critcally well recieved. Tom Jones last Disc is a masterpiece and Duran's is there strongest work in years. I would welcome a new Bond theme from any one of these still vital artist.

Here is a haunting one from DD

Indeed, Barry was very involved in AVTAK and it shows. The song and the score benefited. It's a very unique song in that it is a powerful, driven theme that was also used as a beautiful melody elsewhere in the score.

I know I've said this before, and I've taken a LOT of heat for it but, I still feel that, due to the fact that we're coming up on 007's GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY (like 3 generations or something)... The title song should go to none other than SHIRLEY BASSEY!!! IT JUST MAKES SENSE!

Salute!!!!!!! No heat from Langley on this one!
About Duran Duran, I met them twice some years ago and asked John and Simon at the time about their experience working on AVTAK, with the Broccoli camp and so on.
I'm sure that they'd be honored to be called to task once again. "You Know My Name" from CR would have been much more memorable in their hands.

I mean if they had two performers on the last title song why not do McCartney and Bassey? You could even throw in Duran Duran if you really wanted to. But really McCartney and Bassey could make a pretty classic Bond theme together.

I am a Duran Duran fan and would love to hear them do another. But I have to say, as I've given it some thought, the idea of once again hearing a Shirley Bassey Bond theme is thrilling. SIr Paul could write and Dame Shirley perform.

Although the right time for this artist might have already passed, I always thought Annie Lennox might be able to create an interesting title song for Bond. Anything they do will be better than the last theme. That made my ears bleed when I first heard it. To me those two voices didn't belong together or in a Bond theme at all.

I enjoyed the powerhouse voices like Shirley Bassey and Tina Turner. It really seems to set the tone for the movie when you hear them sing.

I think U2 would make an amazing choice for the Bond theme, I think their song vertigo could be directly translated to a Bond theme,

Vertigo was one of the most meaningless U2 songs ever written (and by their own admission, they were probably drunk when they did it). It's from the time when U2 were trying way too hard to be edgy and recapture the Achtung Baby feel.

Still, U2 would make a great choice for the next Bond theme.

Well... so much for Lana Del Rey, eh? Truly atrocious and unprofessional performance last night on SNL; EON probably won't even so much as consider her, now.

not the first time snl made the music sound awful too- for a high budget show they have no idea of recording music...
The performance wasn't that bad- there was nothing unprofessional about it by any means... shes done better but ive seen sooo much worse from much more established artists than her

I had the old iPod on the other day and I tell who you got me thinking seriously about a pretty good theme for 'Skyfall', in the vein of a Shirley Bassey big number... George Michael.

I honestly hope they don't go with something of a Shirley Bassey tone or with people wanting adele to do one. I honestly couldn't stand shirley bassey songs for the films. it was one of the downsides to the movies. Don't get me wrong i like the women singers just not her. Adele is another one i can't stand that people really seem to want to do a bond theme.

Oh I agree someways Garth007...I meant it in a way that his voice is so strong, he can be very soulful and delicate but really hit the high notes with passion, and power, in that very Bond-esque way! After seeing him live in 'Symphonica', some of the songs sounded very Bond-like, very menacing and powerful which suited Craig's era to a T.

I don't want some dreary song like Adele would do..blurgh, can't stand her...or a song that drags on a bit and doesn't get going, like 'Moonraker'.
