SKYFALL needs to move on from themes about the dangers of being Bond. But it also needs to skip over the whole singer-is-a-Bond-Girl vibe. It needs something new thematically. Maybe something along the lines of Nobody Does It Better (just so long as there is no bawdy chorus when Bond beds the girl at the end).
Isn't that what Nobody Does It Better is though? It's a essentially a song sung from the perspective of a girl who's slept with Bond, and is telling him how every other man is nothing compared to him.
A View To A Kill is one of the most interesting, since it reads like a "love song" from a sociopathic killer to his lover, convincing her to kill, and die together in the act. In other words, from Zorin to May Day.

And I also agree with the former member of Oasis, that it's about time that a british artist make the Bond theme again.

I also think Noel Gallagher's song is fine (not great, but decent at least), and it could be considerably improved with orchestal arrangements from Arnold and some minor changes on the lyrics.
Sadly, Arnold/Dodd's arrangements don't improve anything.

I think Arnold did improve YKMN... if you compare the single version (oficially known as "main version", which is not the same one that appeared in the music video) with the movie version.

And- for the record- I'm not such a big fan of all Arnold's work.

I think the song you are looking for then is not NDIB, but Diamonds are Forever. She's sings about the pain of love, but not as a Bond girl, and she actually sings about what the movie is somewhat related to- diamonds.

Just watched that the other night. Love that song and sequence.

Arcade Fire.
Love Arcade Fire, I think they would do an awesome job, and it would be awesome considering Arcade Fire is Canadian! A little bit of Canada would be in Bond
This is also interesting, take a look,

It says ex-oasis star Noel Gallagher is going to be meeting with the producers to discuss the next Bond theme possibly,
"Nothing is signed or official, it's just being discussed at the moment."
Noel also said that his song "Freaky Teeth" would make a "ing great Bond theme"
Here's freaky teeth,

Now, that one is predictable rubbish, riffing off the Bond theme as if Gallagher was auditioning for the job.
I really hope they will pass on him. Or that he will write a really good song.

Knew this was utter "bollocks" as they say.. The fact that Noel Gallagher doesn't even know who Michael G. Wilson is, is just INSULTING to me.. Still though, this could have been a lot worse...Liam Gallagher's name could have been attached to this..LOL!!

I always thought Will Gregory wrote Pilots as a his attempt at a classic Bary Bond theme. Allison's lyrics/vocals here always struck me secondary to the arrangement.
That's in fact what keeps me sceptic about the idea: Been there, done that. The whole Felt Mountain album is one great iconic Bond soundtrack, exactly because the two of them didn't have to mind any restrictions, could do as they wanted. I think they are through with it, both Gregory and Goldfrapp. And any further attempt in that direction would not be on par with their debut.
And the same probably is true for Portishead. The time they would have been perfect for a Bond theme has come and gone.

Having failed to get the gig for the Quantum of Solace theme song, I wonder if this guy is gonna make another attempt for Skyfall!

Goldfrapp would be great.
This is a very beautiful Bond theme, if it were to be! Reminds me You Only Live Twice by Nancy Sinatra. Great find Sharky

Here is a more recent track, she mixes her styles around quite a bit:
I went to this show back in the day, I thought this unreleased track had some Bond elements also:

Excellent choice. That's very Bondian, in a spacey, bittersweet 1960's way. Very reminiscent of You Only Live Twice, but there are also moments that remind me of the "Flight Into Space" theme from Moonraker.
Cheers!
It also reminds of this track from OHMSS.
Those beautiful Major 7th chords.
