I take it you don't want Justin Bieber to perform the title song. Can't be anything worse than what I heard today at the annual school talentless competition: an Eminem song performed by someone who only knew half the lyrics, a Jessie J song performed by someone who was apparently learning the lyrics for the first time as she sang them, and my personal favourite, a Taylor Swift song performed by someone who had a had a head cold that made her sound like Kanye West.

Or just have the James Bond theme playing over the titles (that's if they do the traditional titles ;-) they do have a habit of shaking things up these days).

Am I the only one who thinks Lady GaGa could pull off an awesome theme? She can actually do more classy stuff. In my opinion, I think the beginning of her song "Marry the Night" sounds very Bond-esque.
For sure. And after her duet with Tony Bennett a lot more people are seeing her range. I would prefer Florence, but I think Gaga would make an unforgettable theme and should be used eventually.

A lot of people said the same thing about Amy Winehouse and QUANTUM OF SOLACE - and a lot of people ended up disappointed. It's far too soon to presume anything, be it Adele's recovery or her chances of performing the theme. If you get too carried away with it, you'll likely be back in this thread ina few months with an "I told you so" sent in your direction. It's been said, but presuming she makes a full recovery, Adele has it in the bag. She is a classic singer a la Shirley Bassey and is British with a capital B. And most importantly, she's the rare artist who has become unanimously popular, equally at home with grandmothers and in the nightclubs against a house beat, on the radio and performing in sold out stadiums and intimate venues. She'll be exactly what they're looking for in a singer for the 50th anniversary and the first Bond film in 4 years (and hopefully the first good one in 6).

Besides the fact that I said "presuming she makes a full recovery", and that Adele, unlike Amy Winehouse in December 2007, does not have a well known alcohol and heroin addiction, this is a speculative thread, like all threads about Skyfall or any other upcoming Bond movie on this forum, so it goes without saying. Also, under no circumstances would it make sense for you, nor anyone else to say "I told you so", since you're not telling me anything, as you know no more information than I do. But thanks for attempting to keep my perceived hopes down, out of the kindness of your heart. I'd have been heartbroken if Adele wasn't chosen without you.

We are talking a lot about who should perform the Skyfall theme song, but not much about what we expect the song to be.
No guitar (leave that to the theme). An equal emphasis on strings and brass blaring so far into the red that they're almost cacophonic. Real, orchestral drums and cymbals. Not rock drums, and for God's sake, no electronic drums. Minor sixths in the chord progressions. Composed by someone who has experience with orchestral pop. Lyrics by someone attempting to write a solid pop song, not trying to be overly Bondian (which usually sounds hamfisted). Maybe an occasional vibraphone in the score.
I'd also like for them to revive other recurring Bond themes, especially '007' and 'Bond Smells a Rat.'
The guitar wasn't what I had in mind. If you notice, both Goldfinger and Thunderball included a brief snatch of the Bond theme in them (actually, in Goldfinger it was more than brief, very much part of the song). I'd like to hear the James Bond theme background, rather than the guitar section, as part of the theme of Skyfall - albeit in passing. It would be appropriate for the 50th anniversary film. Particularly if, as one of the producers is reported to have commented, Skyfall is a nod in the direction of the classic 60s era.

By finishing as a runner-up in last years UK X-Factor Rebecca Ferguson has managed to avoid Simon Cowell's clutches and release her (co-written) debut album which is currently enjoying strong sales over here. If they plan to promote her in the States next year the timing could be perfect for Skyfall's release in October. I really think this lady has all the qualities to go the distance. Her voice is superbly smokey & seductive and she might be one to watch.

Put her with the right producer (i.e. Danja) and the result would be amazing.

Unfortunately, that would probably mean having a superduper "hot" artist doing this. And they would probably insist on doing their own composing, ending in an unusable track that has to be spruced up by the real composer of the score after he has composed the full underscore.
So...
Wait a minute.
Why couldn´t Paul McCartney be called back?
YES! Now that would be fantastic, wouldn´t it? It would generate mega interest. AND it would fit into Sam Mendes publically stating that his favorite Bond film was LIVE AND LET DIE.

Well, for that, the film will probably need a Justin Bieber or Jessie J ...I would love SKYFALL to have a title song that puts the Bond films back on top of the charts.

And yes, Trent Reznor could definitely bring something new and exciting to the table as far as the score is concerned.

After seeing the title sequence for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, i'd say Trent Reznor and Karen O! Great track, even if it was a cover.
Have just seen 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' myself and that title sequence was spectacular. It was like a darker, more disturbed version of Daniel Kleinman's work and at times could have come from a Bond film.
And yes, Trent Reznor could definitely bring something new and exciting to the table as far as the score is concerned.
I agree with both of you. Add me to the list of those who would like for Reznor to be involved with a future title track and/or actually score the film himself. It would be a different sound, but they have gone in a somewhat similar direction before with Eric Serra so the precedent is there, and it would also be nice for EON to shake things up on occasion.

Serra's score for Goldeneye was brilliant in my eyes. It totally changes the whole tone of the film and will always be the standout score for me.
So going in a new direction and getting someone like Trent Reznor to do the score is something i'd like to see.

I'm a big fan of Serra's score as well. For me, Serra's score is one of the few highlights of the Brosnan Era, and I'd be more than happy if EON were to return to that style for a future Bond film.
With that in mind, I'd definitely like to at least see Reznor work on a title track (as well as the entire score), as I could see something along the lines of "Immigrant Song" working quite well for a Bond film, and it would be a move in a different direction in terms of the sound for the franchise, which is something that is very much needed at this point.

Indeed. I'm getting pretty sick of David Arnold. A lot of people will disagree but i think the score for CR and QOS, whilst good, is the one thing that isn't falling in line with this 'new direction' the films are going in.
