Interesting if true, but then again most rumors that crop up this early on usually arent.

Interesting!

Definitely territory already covered in TLD, but I'm all for a Bond adventure set amid Middle East intrigue.

Nice find. B)

Sounds nice really.

But then again.....this early, it could be nothing too. B)

I would prefer another type of location instead of desert.

First thing that popped into my head when I saw the thread title was: "I know a great restaurant in Karachi". Okay, well, not really, but I did think of TLD for half a second. That being said, not really unsurprising that the Middle East would be used. Or drug trafficking. I know the article there mentions Devil May Care, but personally, the phrase "opium trade" brought to mind Risico. Maybe because I've recently been re-reading the short stories.

Risico came tio my mind too.

Possibly Bond 23 is Risico B)

Definately an area in the world that is relevant that's for sure.
Why am I getting the name "Riscio" in my head for this one? B)
Sounds edgy/risky for this type of "drug trade" theme.

Will the infamous Bin Laden et al come into it at all?

Said it once, say it again, Bond in the Middle East, Jordan, then Egypt, India and Australia locales.

Very interesting! I'd like this to be true, and it's highly possible, considering it's not the usual "An Insider at EON said..." or "Barbara Broccoli was spotted.."

OK - Great possibilities, but - as of this time - just speculation regardless of sources.

As variables go, this may just be a backdrop for a PTS or some smaller element or the BIG picture. We'll see, but the middle east is and really always has been a haven for conflict, trade, war and spies go with the mix.

There's a few other current hot spots for where the real spies are doing their work.

But, a key point in this is that the Bond team are hinting that location scouting has begun and if so, there's certainly an outline done but probabaly not a first draft.

So, on we go and time will tell.

Good to hear something though.

Cool. I hope this one is true:)
Though if it is, it still could very well change by the time production begins...as I reflect on LTK's original locales in China.

interesting i hadn't thought of this possibility perhaps bond 23 is further along then we thought.

I don't mijnd the desert being resued but i would like some Snow inserted as well B)

Plus i think there are a lot of possibilities to maek ti seem fresh. Prehaps this opium drug trade is the catylist the opens to a much bigger story. taking it with a grain of ssalt but this is exciting news

I like it, A drug plot always goes down well imo, i liked it in LALD, LTK was more about Bond and his story opposed to Sanchez;s operation, though Bond did stop a major drug deal in the course of settling his own score. I like the idea, it was sort of done before in TLD though.....but after the success of Slumdog Millionaire, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Bond goes East. I'd rather that then another Chinese set story. I like this story, but who the hell are the scritwritters they talk of?

And this of course does not rule out some involvement from Quantum! I can just imagine the line:

"This is the world's hardest drug, we need to control as much of it as we can." B)

If I had to guess 3 possibilities

1. Purvis and Wade and/or Haggis is back hence no big announcment

2. Michael G wilson went back to script writing (which I;d be fine with) again hence no big announcment

3. there is a new script writer with a great idea Eon is trying to see if it is feasable (hence checking with this expert) before annoncing (for example) "Jonathan Nolan is writing bond 23"

Any of the 3 are possible

and wint Just because it happened once doesn't mean i t can;'t be done again and with a different take.

Oh yes...but maybe this is the Bond film that gets to officially film IN China?
Can imagine the Great Wall being involved in a chase scene... B)

Yes I believe so! As my earlier post read, they can double it up for there and film Chinese locations too.
Lots of nice snowy regions there and the Great Wall..begging for a chase scene..
and the Bond line about the villain as he chases him..
"Not again, this guy's driving me up the wall".. B)

No? Too soon?

Bond in Afghanistan... I don't know, I don't really buy it! It's kind of too linked to some painful, unglamorous everyday news. Plus, it's not a place for a Bond-like spy.
EON doing research about the Afghan drug trade doesn't mean that the film will be actually set in Afghanistan, the trade may be part of the plot without Bond being sent there.

Although, I could see Bond going to some other Central Asian locations... and maybe Asian, full stop!
