I can't understand why so many people are "down" on Timothy Dalton. He's not my favorite Bond, but he was still quite good, particularly after the Moore years where Bond seemed to get a little too "cartoonish." Also, although I know that this forum is primarily about the movies, I have to add that one of the reasons I liked Dalton was the fact that he seemed to be the film Bond who was closest to the Bond of the novels.
I agree. I think he's great. He portrayed the character with emotion, but more importantly, the right emotions. Both of his movies are in my top 10 (TLD: 10th, LTK: 8th). I wish he had done a third. But, I love that Brosnan's GondenEye was the (excellent) film that reintroduced people to Bond. One just wonders what Daltons third would have been like...

My Favorite Bond Film: From Russia With Love
My Favorite Bond: Sean Connery
My first Bond film was: Moonraker was my first Bond in the theater. Prior to that, saw some on TV but don't recall the very first.
My favorite gadget is: Aston Martin DB5 with modifications
My favorite villain is: Goldfinger
My favorite henchmen is: Jaws
My favorite Bond song is: Nobody Does It Better if I'm in a mellow mood & You Know My Name if I need something louder.
My favorite Bond girl is: Domino Derval
Favorite Fight: Bond vs Oddjob in the Fort Knox vault
Favorite Car: Aston Martin V12 Vanquish (the DB5 if I'm in the mood for a classic).
My favorite Bond Soundtrack: Casino Royale (David Arnold)
I group the movies more into tiers similiar to a radio station song rotation. One tier is heavy rotation (watch often), the next is medium rotation, & the final is low rotation (watch the least). If I have to narrow it down to the Top 5 movies, I would currently go with these:
Great choices! I also like Sean Connery, You Know My Name (tied with TLD for my favorite song), the CR soundtrack, and the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish.

Moonraker: Fight for the parachute during the PTS - a spectacular stunt that continues to be enjoyable today (even though the producers weren't particularly concerned above having the stunt doubles look like Moore and Kiel); Bernard Lee's final performance as M; the pheasant hunting sequence; some of the dialog (Drax: Look after Mr. Bond. See that some harm comes to him.
FYEO: Good stunts; when bond kicks Locque's car off the edge of the cliff (flashes of the "brutal" Bond); Melina Havelock's assassination of Gonzales with the crossbow as he dives into the swimming pool; Bond's first meeting with Columbo; the keel hauling sequence (which was taken from the book, LALD).
Also, although I'm not sure how to phrase this. I wouldn't characterize it as "good." However, for some reason, I love Bond's continual blabbing during the ATAC retrieval scene after he explicitly states that there should be no unnecessary talking in order to conserve air.
Octopussy: The PTS - excellent "mini" Bond movie; the killing of 009 and his delivery of the egg (However, why didn't he ever lose the balloon? Also, why does M say there were no "clues" when the guy was found dead in a clown costume? Was this 009's normal attire?); the auction and Bond's switch of the egg; the fight on the train; and Bond's killing of the knife throwing twin to avenge 009.
More to come.

Great picks. I agree on the retrieval of the ATAC. Unintentionally amusing. I also agree on the whole 009 thing. He seems rather incompetent, not getting rid of the balloon, and it is odd that nobody notices that he's in a clown suit. You'd think that they'd immediately think "Maybe he's infiltrating a circus?", but no. Still, both are great movies.

Sure we are all wowed when Dr No hit the screens, when From Russia with Love followed it, the die was cast...
...and why? because no one had seen anything like it. Bond went to countries, drank exotic cocktails, and slept with beautiful girls. The fight scenes were like nothing ever seen before.
Now, Bond has to go up against Jason Bourne, Ethan Hunt and even Liam Neeson in Taken.
STILL Bond comes out on top, because the filming techniques are cutting edge and the genre is still, the lifestyle we (maybe sectretly) all want.
Most people now have (or know someone who has) been to Jamacia and Istanbul.
The Roger Moore series of films have dated because the era dated very quickly, now we all have to get used to new technology.
When Dalton came along, he was the Bond we wanted to see, action action action. WHen Brosnan took over, the storylines were bigger the gadgets more realistic, because we are living through the age when we see new gadgets every week.
So, why not introduce Bond to the new generation. Daniel Craig is NOW he can act and he can fight, but most of all he lets us in on the World of James Bond.
My Favorite scene. Car chase Quantum of Solace.

In the balance I feel that Casino Royale, just has the edge on Quantum of Solace as the best Bond movie.

I was just thinking...
It's so cool that the Bond films have grossed $4,739,157,447! That makes it the highest grossing film series ever!
Just for fun, here are the top 5 grossing Bond films:
1. Casino Royale: $599,200,000
2. Quantum of Solace: $515,588,687
3. Die Another Day: $456,000,000
4. The World Is Not Enough: $390,000,000
5. GoldenEye: $353,400,000
But what's even more amazing is that Dr. No had a budget of $1,200,000, and made $59,600,000! Thats a profit of 58,400,000! Quite a bit way back in 1962. Adjusted for inflation, thats $425,488,741! Simply amazing. Thats how good Dr. No is.

Also, Thunderball, another great Bond movie, grossed $141,200,000. If adjusted for inflation thats the amazing figure of $966,435,555! In inflation terms, it's the highest grossing Bond movie. Once again, that's amazing.
BTW, I got these figures from Wikipedia.

AVTAK: Great PTS - exciting stunts - only bad part: insertion of some Beach Boys music - thankfully, the song is brief and doesn't ruin the sequence; excellent title song and overall score that ranks among John Barry's best (e.g. Goldfinger, Thunderball, YOLT, OHMSS); Patrick McNee and Christopher Walken (I know some people don't like Walken, but I've been a fan since I saw him years ago on Broadway); the eiffel tower jump; Tibbitt's murder in the car wash; when Bond uses the car tire for air when hiding under water; Zorin's business meeting on the blimp.
THE BEST THING? It's Moore's last movie. Although he was actually pretty good in a few of the movies and merely serviceable in the rest, he was 58 when he made this film! 58!!! He was almost 30 years older than Tanya Roberts!

It's still a great video. I don't mind that Brosnan was in it a lot. He's tied for my second favorite Bond, so I don't mind the heavy usage.

To: FRWLfan:
Great picks. I agree on Moore's age. I loved him in TSWLM, FYEO, and Octopussy, but he was way too old in AVTAK.

After watching YOLT, and DAF, I now don't like Charles Gray's Blofled, and I now really like Donald Pleasance's Blofeld. He's now my favorite "seen" Blofeld. You know, you could put '007FOREVER' in your signature, to save you typing it in manually every time.
Thanks. I might try that.
More favorites:
Charles Gray's Blofeld, and Donald Pleasance's Blofeld
Henchmen: Necros, Jaws (in TSWLM), Dr. Kaufman
My favorite scheme is: Either Thunderball or Goldfinger, since both are great capers. Thunderball is very realistic, and could happen, while Goldfinger is so grand, and awesome, it just makes you wonder. I also like the scheme in GoldenEye.
Favorite line: "The name's Bond. James Bond" in CR and "I never left." in QoS.
Other characters: Alec Trevelyan, Xenia Onatopp, Oddjob, Jack Wade, Felix Leiter, Valintin Zuchovsky, Ali Kerim Bey, Milos Cloumbo
The title songs for: FRWL, GF, TB, OHMSS, LALD, AVTAK, Goldeneye, TND, TWINE, DAD, CR
All of the gadgets and cars
007 FOREVER!!!
I love when they reveal his face. It's a classic Bond moment. Pleasance is definitely my favorite Blofeld.

After watching Never Say Never Again for the first time I would have to say I enjoyed the cave battle. Sean Connery seemed to be rather 'Moore' like...humorous at times but almost corny at other times. Still liked it though! On to Moonraker next...
I agree. It's a great Bond movie, but definitely not the best. I love Connery's performance, as well as Barbra Carrera's (Sp?) and Bernie Casey's. I also love the shrublands fight with Lippe.
