Season and possibly series finale of DAMAGES. Awesome. They had a lot of ground to cover and a lot of loose ends to tie up in 90 minutes, but I believe they did succeed in one of the bloodiest, and most suspenseful, episodes ever. The violence that was shown was made even more effective by the violence that was barely seen: a major character in the far, far background--really no more than a blip on the screen--jumps to her death from the bridge. I'll miss this series if it doesn't return, but it sure made for three years' great viewing.

I've heard the rumours about the cancellation. It'll be a shame to see it go, it's been a hugely engrossing and very intelligent show. We've still got a few episodes of it to go here in the UK, guess I'll make the most of it while I still can.

I keep forgetting about the difference in U.K. showing times and hope I gave nothing away. Apologies if I did--and I'm glad that you too liked the show.

Nah, don't worry, I'm still oblivious.

The last episode of the first season of Pushing Daisies
I really enjoyed it but I can see why it didn't keep its audience; its uber-quirkiness could be wearying, indeed I had to do a fair amount of adjusting to it as I am not generally one for too much mannered quirkiness/tweeness. I know it's been said to have "borrowed" a bit from Amelie, haven't seen it but reading a summary of it, the plot does seem awfully similar to the "arc" of Anna Friel's character. Perhaps this is kind of premature seeing as I haven't watched Season 2 yet, but in a way I'm glad it was short-lived, it seems like the kind of series that would be difficult to sustain over a long period of time, especially without resorting to answering (rightly) unanswered questions. It's such a high concept series that it has to repeatedly re-cover old ground just to keep its audience up to speed; the footage of Chuck's dad's fatal collapse must have been used about ten times over the course of these nine episodes.

Despite my fairly lengthy critique above, I did find the first series to be a really cheery light-comedy with a fun premise. I'm glad I gave it a shot and I look forward to watching the second (and last) series.

Chuck: Season One and Two

Watched all of the Season One episodes and the first two episodes of Season Two for the first time since they originally aired and I have to say I really liked what I saw and it was better than what I was expecting. First off, this has to be one of the funniest shows recently when it comes to the jokes they come up with or the sort of embarassing situations the characters get into that I had forgotten especially due to a reduction of these elements in Season 3. Along with that all the characters, and a suprising amount of them, get their due and are well thought out especially Chuck who comes off as very sinciere and likeable. I like the main and secondary them songs as well and give the show a somewhat spy sound. At the end of the day I thought this was just a very good show but after revisiting it I think it belongs in the great catagory to me plus these episodes have great replay value which not all TV shows can claim. I found two new clips on IMDB that were some what interesting which originated at Hulu: http://www.imdb.com/...u/vi2628912921/, http://www.imdb.com/...u/vi2401634073/

Chuck: Finally, back-to-back good episodes. The episode managed to recapture some (but not all) of the sense of fun that had been missing from the first 13 episodes this season. Strangely though, considering that there are 5 episodes left, it felt as though this episode was at one time meant as a series finale.

I totally agree with your take on the episode. I have a sneaking suspicion that next week's episode may recapture all of the fun from the first two seasons due it having a certain scene that will be a homage to the Robert Wagner show Hart to Hart and of course the always funny Fred Willard.

I hope that it does. I'd like for the series to end with a few great episodes, but I'm not really counting on it either. I'll probably always consider "Chuck vs. The Colonel" as the series finale, as S3 has been an outright disaster.

Football Focus from this morning. They were doing a feature on my club, Bradford City, as it is only a week and a half from the anniversary of the stadium fire which claimed the lives of 56 fans, and injured 250 others. I was at the game today where they held a minute's silence, which was impecably observed.

11th May 1985. A tragic day. Never forgotten.

Chuck: Disappointing episode. Of course, it would have been too much to ask for the "creative"team behind this show to deliver 3 quality episodes in a row. I would have thought that an episode starring Fred Willard would have been good , but no such luck. Hopefully, NBC cancels this show in a couple of weeks, if only to preserve my fond memories of the first 2 seasons.

At least give Season 3 a try, especially from episode 13 onward. Judging from the reaction on the NBC forum, my opinion on this episode is very much in the extreme minority. And, to be fair, there was a feeling as though the show was trying to get back to what made the last two seasons great, I just didn't think that it was a particularly successful attempt, especially since Fred Willard was guest starring, and that should have really helped this show (and Willard did quite well, IMO, with the material he was given).

For me, it just feels as though the show is going through the motions. I'll give it a try next season if its back, with hope it can get back to the magic of Season 2, but if not, I'm willing to walk away from the show at that point.

Seems to have upset a lot of people, but as someone who thinks the series has generally grown rather stale I found it very entertaining and a breath of fresh air.

Yeah it was genuinely interesting and something new. It isn't often you see a cartoon character discuss his secret suicide plans.

MAD MEN - Season 3

I love this show. I can see why people have problems with it. But its slowness and extremely subtle character development do appeal to me. I find it a refreshing alternative to the slam-bang nature of so much contemporary entertainment.

And if Jon Hamm had been English and born a few years earlier he would have been a perfect James Bond.

For those of you who have never seen Hamm in MAD MEN - check him out. The late 50´s / early 60´s setting has him even in the right Bondian outfit.

And it's not often you see a cartoon be primarily about two characters stuck in a small space doing nothing but talking with each other.

Saturday Night Live: It's amazing what happens when they bring in a quality performer to host this otherwise trainwreck of a show. Betty White was spectacular as the host, and the show managed to be funny without being so grossly offensive that one would be unable to make it through the whole thing. A note to the producers: keep bringing in quality hosts like Betty White and next week's Alec Baldwin, and the ratings might actually climb out of the basement and the show might actually become relevent again.

Chuck: A better episode than last week, to be sure. Christopher Lloyd's guest role as Chuck's psychiatrist was very well done, and the show appears to be trying to make strides towards the sense of fun that made the first two seasons such a delight to watch. There's still a long way to go in that department, but at least things appear genuinely headed on the right track
Spoiler

Castle: A solid episode, although one that may have been a bit too complicated for its own good. The promos for next week look very promising, as the series has become a bit stagnant since the introduction of Michael Trucco's character.

American Idol: Another bad episode. I might be watching it at this point out of habit rather than for any actual enjoyment. This has been perhaps one of the worst seasons for any TV show I've ever seen.

Glee: Terrible episode, the worst of the series to this point. Too much music, not enough laughs, and just all-around a very poorly conceived episode.

Chuck has just been renewed for a fourth season with 13 episodes and the option of 9 additional ones. I sure hope some consistency develops with the end of this season that would give it some momentum moving into Season 4.

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - May 14, 2010 - NBC has issued pickups for four more new scripted series with dramas "The Cape," "Outlaw," "Harry's Law" and the comedy "Friends With Benefits" - while renewing the action-comedy series "Chuck" for a fourth season -- all for the 2010-11 season. The announcement was made today by Angela Bromstad, President, Primetime Entertainment, NBC and Universal Media Studios.

"The addition of these four inventive series to our new scripted lineup demonstrates a wide spectrum of creative stories," said Bromstad. "We are featuring popular, top-flight stars along with a strong pedigree of successful writer-producers. Likewise, 'Chuck' has proven its enduring appeal and we love the new creative direction that Josh and Chris have taken the show."

Now in its third season that concludes with a two-hour season finale on Monday, May 24 (8-10 p.m. ET), "Chuck" is averaging a 2.4 rating, 6 share in adults 18-49 and 6.6 million viewers overall. "Chuck's" ratings increase significantly when all time-shifted viewing is added to its results, growing this season by an average of 22 percent in its 18-49 rating and more than 1.1 million persons in total viewers when going from its "live plus same day" to its "live plus seven day" results from Nielsen Media Research.

Zachary Levi ("Less Than Perfect") stars in the title role as a regular guy working at a Buy More electronics store who becomes the government's most vital secret agent. This season, Chuck was transformed into the Intersect 2.0 after another data download into his brain. This time around, he not only knows government secrets, but he also is well equipped with deadly fight skills. Chuck has the potential to become a real agent and gets a helping hand from one of the CIA's top agents and his dream girl Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski, "Gone").

The ever stoic Colonel John Casey (Adam Baldwin, "My Bodyguard," "Firefly") returns with an unlikely new partner, Chuck's best friend, Morgan Grimes (Joshua Gomez, "Without a Trace"). Also starring are: Sarah Lancaster ("What About Brian?") as Chuck's ever-supportive sister Ellie and Ryan McPartlin ("Living with Fran") as Devon Woodcomb (also known as "Captain Awesome"), Ellie's husband. Chuck's Buy More team consists of Big Mike (Mark Christopher Lawrence, "The Pursuit of Happyness") and the Nerd Herd, which includes Lester (Vik Sahay, "Time Bomb") and Jeff (Scott Krinsky, "The O.C.").

"Chuck" is co-created by Josh Schwartz ("The O.C.," "Gossip Girl") and Chris Fedak, and is executive-produced by Schwartz, McG ("Charlie's Angels," "We Are Marshall"), Fedak, Allison Adler and Matthew Miller. "Chuck" is produced by College Hill Pictures, Wonderland Sound and Vision, in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Whats also interesting is that the other WB shows that premiered this Season, Human Target and V, were also renewed by Fox and ABC.

Let's hope that they can do something interesting and enjoyable with the fourth season they've been given by NBC. The creative team behind the show did absolutely nothing to actually earn a fourth season, but let's hope that NBC's charitable renewal of the show gives it a spark creatively.

Chuck: The best episode since "Chuck vs. the Colonel" over a year ago. For the first time since this third season started, they made an episode that didn't bash the audience over the head with the Chuck/Sarah relationship. They're a couple in this episode, it's not overdone for the first time this season, and they have a couple of nice moments that don't involve over-the-top theatricality. Scott Bakula makes a great come back to the series (he really needs to be made a series regular), and for the first time, a Season 3 episode fully regains the magic of Season 2.

Castle

Really great episode which seemed to finally get some advancement in the Beckett and Castle relationship but when the final minutes came it ruined a perfect setup for the relationship to go somewhere different. Thats the problem I have with shows that have two characters that have good chemistry and takes forever for the relationship to even go anywhere romantic. Perfect example is from the show JAG where the main character, Harmon Rabb, and his partner Sarah MacKenzie have this sort of relationship and it literally took 8 Seasons before it really went anywhere. I am afraid this could happen with this show but I could be wrong or are the writers trying to keep status quo and don't want Beckett and Castle to get romantically involved?

The creative team behind CASTLE is very much on record about their paranoia regarding the MOONLIGHTING curse. Both Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion have stated several times in interviews that what happened on MOONLIGHTING is a concern for them with CASTLE. With that said, I hated how they ended this season. I walk away from every episode of CASTLE with a smile on my face because of how much fun the show is. This finale, however, was great fun up until the final minute, which really left the entire season on a rather sad note.
