I predict that this EXPENDABLES poster - what with all those guns and knives - will cause A Storm of Controversy in the United Kingdom and become a tabloid whipping boy for all that's wrong with Broken Britain, despite the fact that there are dozens of much more offensive pieces of movie and game artwork. "Ban Sly's sick poster glorifying knife crime!" the Mail will shriek, ignoring the greater number of guns.

But I agree with you Loomis - this poster is totally harmless. I could imagine, however, that Stallone is no longer taken seriously enough for a controversy anymore.

Hmm, I don't think those posters are anything to do with Expendables...I can't read a word of it, but they all have '2' on them.
Anyway, what's going on? I presume we're going to get an actual trailer when Kick-

Those Jet Li posters don't have anything to do with The Expendables. The website even mentions this.
Thanks for clarifying that. But I still wonder what this is about, referring to the censored poster on the Official site:
New Expendables Movie Poster - had to remove it
March 13, 2010
Unfortunatly, 2 days after I post this I got email from "Mis. Label" the Scandinavian distributor for "The Expendables" that this was unauthorized and unfinished internal poster leak and I had to remove it.

This has some cool potential if the rest of the cast fills out. Could we get Craig, Bale, Brosnan, McGregor, Vinnie Jones, etc? And throw in Michael Caine in a mentor role, he'll do pretty much anything.

It looks like there may be a sort of all-British Expendables in the works. Jason Statham and Clive Owen are on board 'The Killer Elite', about "a group of former British special forces members who are being hunted by assassins".

Straighten us out here, dino: it's also referred to as THE KILLING ELITE. I'm assuming that KILLER ELITE was a typo--I certainly hope so, since that title's already been used by Bloody Sam.
As for Caine: he said in one interview that he picks his roles on a sliding scale--from those that offer the chance of acting greatness...down to those that pay the rent. Judging from his recent roles, he's been having more trouble paying the rent, so I can see him in this. As a matter of fact, I've enjoyed him in nearly everything he's done.

30 NINJAS: Can you tell me a little bit about your character Toll Road in Stallone’s upcoming film The Expendables? What’s his story?
RANDY COUTURE: Toll Road is one of the Expendables; he’s one of the team’s mercenaries whose specialty is hand-to-hand combat, and he tends to find himself in those types of situations. He’s also dealing with some of the things that he’s had to do through the course of his chosen profession, and he’s using a psychologist to come to terms with the person that he is. In a lot of situations, he’s kind of the quiet guy, the intellectual, college-educated guy who realizes the things that they do aren’t really normal. So he has to come to terms with this.
30 NINJAS: You’ve said in other interviews that there was a great chemistry on the set of The Expendables and that Stallone was great to work with. Can you tell me what was different about working on this movie compared to other movies that you’ve worked on?
RANDY COUTURE: Well, aside from kind of the up energy on the set when all the Expendables came together because of the group of guys, there was also Sly, first of all having written the script and doing all the rewrites, plus directing the movie. He’s behind the camera, running in a lot of cases three units to capture everything he wanted to capture, plus he’s in front of the camera as a star, the lead guy in the movie. I know from my experience in just the nine weeks in New Orleans alone that it was a grind. It was remarkable; I had no idea how he was still standing after all of that, but I found him to be very refreshing. He wasn’t caught up with the words on the page; things changed on the fly — he rewrote stuff right there on the set a lot of the time, changing around the lines for characters to make it fit better, feel better, and he was very, very in tune with helping the actors get across what he wanted to get across. Not just me; I saw him work with a lot of the guys, and obviously he’s very — I think because of the characters that he’s played, people assume he’s — but actually he’s a very, very bright guy.

He makes the AICN he first port of call, and now The Expendables is getting a prequel comic. Hmm, Stallone is really keen on catching the "geek" audience isn't he?
Yeah, I wonder if they will do a Comic-Con appearance too.

I like the second trailer more, but feel that they're overselling it a bit here. With a cast and project this great, you don't really need to.
Well, I guess it's aimed at those millions of people out there who haven't followed the making of THE EXPENDABLES on Ain't It Cool News and who were unaware of the Schwarzenegger and Willis cameos - and indeed unaware of the film's very existence.
I'm buying my tickets for THE EXPENDABLES as soon as possible.
I wonder whether Sly's looking at his biggest ever box office hit. Although I guess RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD PART II will always remain his number one smash, adjusted for inflation.

I'm a little disappointed. It's looks macho and tacky. Very old fashioned 80s/90s action movie. Lots of muscle bound sweaty Americans killing lots of sweaty bad guys (of vague South American nationalities). I was expecting some wit or edge or humor, but it looks like it takes itself deadly serious. I don't know. I'll wait to hear what people think.
I think there's a lot of wit and humour in the trailer, but I guess it comes down to whether you find it funny. It certainly seems the most comedic film Stallone has ever written or directed. To me, at least, it all looks deeply tongue-in-cheek and a world away from the humour-free, hard-R RAMBO (2008).
As for the '80s style, that's completely deliberate, going by what Sly has said in interviews. It's supposed to be set in the same universe as movies like COMMANDO. In fact, I think COMMANDO is probably the most reliable guide to what THE EXPENDABLES is going to be like (even though COMMANDO is, ironically enough, a Schwarzenegger flick that was itself inspired by RAMBO).

That was what I got out of that trailer as well. The first unofficial one had a great vibe to it, and was far from self indulgent. That middle segment in this new trailer with the melodramatic music really threw me off. I hope the film embraces it's over the top silliness with a wink and a nudge rather than a cold blooded stare in eyes.

About 55 seconds into the new trailer for The Expendables, Sylvester Stallone's action extravaganza full of gristly stars from the eighties, Arnold Schwarzenegger makes an appearance. After delivering a meta one-liner about Stallone's character liking the jungle (get it? he played Rambo), Schwarzenegger is gone. Big deal, right? It's not like this is the first time the Governator has been in a movie since taking office. Ah, but it is the first time he's been in a movie playing anyone other than himself.
Okay, so what does all of this mean? Well, the L.A. Times seems to think it signals a return to the big screen for Schwarzenegger, who is prevented from seeking higher executive office by the pesky Constitution. We think that sounds about right. His other political options are the Senate and he already said he won't do that. And remember, he said he'll be back.

Erm, no, it's about the third time he's been in a movie since taking office (in 2003). Since becoming Governor, he's taken no lead roles or parts of any significance, confining himself to a couple of cameo appearances (presumably as favours for friends), the most recent being in something called THE KID & I in 2005. Basically, he's been keeping himself as far away from Hollywood film sets as Roman Polanski.
Ah, but it is the first time he's been in a movie playing anyone other than himself.
Not sure what the writer is trying to say here, unless he or she is suggesting that performances like Conan, John Matrix and The Terminator were somehow autobiographical.
If the intended implication is that his past performances were all very samey, then I see nothing to suggest that his turn in THE EXPENDABLES will be any sort of break from the norm. Quite the opposite, in fact.
If what the writer actually meant to type was "it is the first time he's been in a movie playing himself", that isn't true, for he does not play himself in THE EXPENDABLES - he plays a character called Trench. Although he does play himself in his cameo in THE KID & I, or so the IMDb informs me.
It isn't saying much, but THE EXPENDABLES looks set to be the biggest celluloid showcase for Arnie since TERMINATOR 3 seven years ago.

Right or wrong, the writer was saying that this is the first screen appearance Arnold's given since becoming Governor where he hasn't played himself. Potentially an omen of a return to the screen.

That's not true, though. He plays a character by the name of Prince Hapi in AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS (2004).
